I can‘t even begin explaining the mind numbing rage I have against like 80% of the characters in this book and I‘m only a quarter of the way through… I am so upset that it feels like a weight on my chest and I just wanna claw it away.

Since Jasper Fforde announced he‘s working on number 8 in the Thursday Next series, I realized I‘ve only read through number 3 and made an emergency trip to the library.
Clouds rolling in, but I‘m happy to be back reading on the deck.

I liked the concept of this book more than the storyline itself. I thought it would go in a different direction than it did. It took me longer to get through it than I expected but it wasn‘t a terrible book.

@LibrarianRyan omgoodness you are not good for my diet buddy!!!! All of the homemade treats smell soooooo good! Thank you soooo much!!!!! I cant wait to get home and try them. ❣️❣️ #AHRS #allhallowsreadswap
Ummm... I can't put my finger on what was so disappointing about this. It just fell flat for me.
So this one dragged just a bit too much for me. I feel like it could have been slightly shorter. I was definitely interested in the story and the aspect of chosen one‘s getting PTSD and like what do they do after they save the world. I‘m not obsessed with Veronica Roth, so I was just reading this as a fantasy book, not something written by the author of Divergent.
#JumpStart2023 (have been forgetting to use this hashtag)
My #RollDecember list and my #BookSpin list have all the same books on it, just in different order.
Here‘s the 4 books that were rolled. Not sure if I‘ll get to all of them but it‘s a good mix of different reads.
#TBRPile 📚”I‘ve got a question for you: How the fuck did we end up with the name ‘Dark One‘ anyway?”
Cool concept of following “chosen ones“ after they have fulfilled their destinies. A good NA style read with just the right amount of dark. Exploration of mental illness in a way that was present & addressed without taking over the entire story. Slow start due to world building, but I found myself very invested for the last half. I think that now that things are pretty well set up, the sequels to this should be full of great plot movement.
This book was amazing. At first, I was entertained and was enjoying it but wasn‘t too sold. Then, things took a turn and I was blown away. Roth did a great job of highlighting the complexities of our protagonists and the shades of grey of our decisions. I would highly recommend.
This is a tough one. I liked a lot of the ideas and concepts in this book. I did not like the narrative style and felt there was little character development past the main character, Sloane. This is her coming of age story, although she‘s 30. It‘s supposed to be adult fiction but felt YA. Some of the twists were really great but this was uneven for me. I‘m not sure if this is a yes or no. Wine is from Bowers Harbor in Traverse City. Always a yes!
I had a hard time with this book. I felt like there was a massive information dump and a long build up to the action. By the time the action started I was already having to force myself to finish the book. When I dislike a book I usually give it one more chance just to make sure it is not a right fit for me before I donate it. If my opinion changes I‘ll write a new review.
This was a really good book. Still, I feel like there is a lot that isn‘t explained, especially when it comes to the Dark One. With that, combined with the aftermath of whatever happened at the end of the book, I feel like there is plenty room for a sequel.
I also found it really interesting that the book doesn‘t start with the initial battle, but rather it gives you details about it along the way from 10 years later.
The Drain looked the same every time, with all the people screaming as they ran away from the giant dark cloud of chaos but never running fast enough.

Nothing new but still enjoyable.
It was nice getting to know the characters
I liked the concept of this book - people who saved the world but ten years later. And I liked the sci-fi aspects. I did find a few of the twists predictable.
190-2020 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Audiobook 41
Even though I liked the overall story I do have some issues... I know all artists take inspiration from others but what about blatant borrowing/copying of terms, items or ideals taken from other texts such as Harry Potter & The Mortal Instrumemts as the case is here. Also dropping a few F Bombs does not make this an adult novel when the rest of the story is very clearly YA.......
Wow! Its like Divergent and Harry Potter collided. The twist was whoa!!!! It wasnt perfect but Roth's writing and ability to make a story flow is amazing.
before bed reading
September TBR! Doing a mixture of finishing some current reads and trying to get to a few ARCs.
An interesting concept that may or may not suffer from having too much going on...this book sort of feels like it had a first book that you never read...only it didn't.

I had a NetGalley for this book (surprise! Another late one!), but I honestly don‘t know if would have finished it without the audiobook. There‘s a bit of a lull in the middle, but the book ends strong and ultimately, is a pick for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
10th book done for #NetGalleyReviewathon! 😮
Also, this was my (Red, White or) #BlueType book for #Booked2020😃
I marked off another for #BookSpinBingo yesterday. 😀 @TheAromaofBooks
When I started this one I was really enjoying it, but about halfway in I lost interest a bit. It picked back up for me towards the end, but the lull in the middle bugged me.
I liked Sloane's character and her self-destructive ways, but most of the other characters don't get enough explanation for the reader to fill invested in their part of the story.
I LOVED THIS BOOK. Oh boy, I loved this. First paper book I‘ve raced through beginning to end and wanted to get back to since lockdown began and the world went crazy. I love sloane. I‘m so excited that there will be more books with these characters! (I hope?!) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was not expecting to love this book, an adult distopian novel by the author of the Divergent series. I was totally into the story, the writing, and the characters. Nice flip@on the “chosen one” narrative. Still great for teens, as well.
My new reading spot!!! Can‘t wait to get in there with a book ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I‘m literally 75% done with this, and am hoping the next three hours of my shift are quiet and let me finish it! I wasn‘t entirely sure what to expect going into it, but it‘s been a compulsive page turner so far! (Of course, so was the Divergent series until its disappointing end...😑) There are definitely shades of Divergent, too, so some predictability, but still - what a good summer read so far! #chosenones #veronicaroth
Book #2 of the day...honestly, is there much that‘s better than having a whole day to just do nothing but sit on the porch and read? 😍 #chosenones #veronicaroth
#TBRPile Day 22 - hiding from the rain in my favourite little coffee shop 📚 What happens after you‘ve defeated the big bad? After you‘ve saved the world and buried your dead? Can you go back to a normal life? The premise of this book sounds so interesting!
The first novel written for an adult audience by the mega-selling author of the Divergent franchise: five twenty-something heroes famous for saving the world when they were teenagers must face even greater demons—and reconsider what it means to be a hero . . . by destiny or by choice.
This is billed as a book that follows a young woman who, with four others, saved the world from a great evil 10 years ago and now has to live with unwanted notoriety. I thought that sounded really interesting, and it does start that way, but quickly veers in another direction. The concept is good, but it‘s so full of holes I found it hard to enjoy and was frankly a bit bored at times.
Well the hatches are all battened down and my work for the day is done, in preparation for a hurricane that may not hit here after all. So now I have time to read! 🎉🎉📚
loved it. Coming in after the apocolyptic saving of the world, 10 years later, coming in at the middle of the story...brilliant!
Ooh! Hello library books! It‘s been awhile ☺️
I loved this book but I can see why it has had some mixed reviews. It does not go in the way you expect it to go. 💕
3/5🌟
I always expect to like V.R books as much as I did the Divergent series, and am always a bit disappointed. There is a lot I feel could have been left out of this book and a lot that could have been expanded on. The articles didn't add anything for me. The case files were good, but lacking. It was a fun easy read. Slow at times, rushed in others. I enjoyed that Sloan was a flawed MC.

And heres my Wheel to go with it!
My next round of books to read. These are a mixture of "new" books and books pulled from my shelves.
Reading outside on this beautiful day!

Very cool adult book from the author of Divergent. She presented magic in a way that I never would have thought of before.
I'm torn between wondering when the next one of these will come out and also asking why this wasn't set up as just a one off.
Thank you @hmhbooks for sending this poster to me. Chosen Ones is a good story and I am looking forward to book 2. I‘ll be waiting patiently for it‘s release. #ChosenOnes #VeronicaRoth
I enjoyed reading this. Chosen Ones helped me take my mind off of the pandemic. I related to Sloane as soon as she popped up in the story. I enjoyed her journey. Chosen Ones is worth 4 stars out of 5 stars. I want to know what happens in the next book.
