Not as good as the first one, but I think I know why. It was only supposed to be a duology so when the author turned it into a trilogy this became a filler so not a lot of actual action happens. You can tell they are leading up to something epic that will happen in book 3. This was a lot of planning, trying to gain ally‘s, running & hiding. Ended on quite a cliffhanger though so I‘m going to have to read book 3 asap! #seriesread2022 @TheSpineView

I finished this book 20 minutes before my friend drove me to the airport so I could make more space in my suitcase. While I could predict the outcome of one character based on their descriptions, I thought it was a good sequel to the first novel. I really enjoyed getting more into the lore of witches and creatures in this world, and I‘m looking forward to reading the last one as soon as I can!
⭐️⭐️💫
Eh. This book was fine, but it definitely seemed like a step back from the first book.
Though we get dual POVs, I struggled to understand the motivations of the main characters, and the plot & pacing lacked the drive that book one was so good at. I will still read book 3, especially because the ending of this one was 😳, but not right away.
Pretty porcelain, pretty doll, with hair as black as night, She cries alone within her pall, her tears so green and bright.
Magic is death and madness…I want no part of it.
There is more in this earth than in all your Heaven and Hell, yet you remain blind.
This story was a little more slow than the first. It also had a lot of parts in it that made me angry. Just talk to each other! Trust each other! Stop being so stupid! And that ending.. makes me so angry! Now I have to read the last one. 😅 I'd rate this a 3/5 compared to the first. It's not bad- I still enjoy the writing. The story in this one is just.. it made me frustrated!
Characters felt so different in this installment: I kept missing snarky Lou. There were also several others that I had liked and they were flat now.
I would also have loved to get more details about their surroundings, that would have made the atmosphere so much more vivid.
This book was really slow and almost nothing happened. This was way too long for this amount of action.

“Sometimes it hurts to remember the dead as who they were, rather than who we wanted them to be.“
“What you are now is not what you‘ve always been, nor is it what you always will be.“
First book of 2022 and sadly it didn't really work for me. I absolutely adored the first book but not much happened in this one. I found both Lou and Reid to be rather annoying and I enjoyed the secondary characters more. I still want to finish the series, hopefully it can gain back the spark of the first book.
4 ⭐️ my goodness, this was a slow and anguishing read, BUT the last 150 pages or so made up for it. 🎉🎉I had heard so many good things about the 3rd book, I knew I couldn‘t stop here at the 2nd. I‘m really glad I didn‘t. If you are having a hard time with this one like I did ( took me over two months to finish), I‘d encourage you to read it. The finale is quite amazing and I am hooked!
Finally got a physical copy ( thanks to #Thriftbooks)-
I thought I could do well on my SCRIBD ebook but it is so SLOW and I am struggling. Word on the street this book in the series is the most grueling ( I loved the first) but the last book is worth it.
Sphinx is with me for some general apathy tonight.
After finishing this book today, I checked my library's digital system and found the next book in the series is only available in print, not digital.
All I can really say is I just wasn't impressed enough with the first two books to want to go check it out. 🤷♀️
Lou and Reid's relationship navigation here is real, but God, it hurts me deep. Not as much as ANSEL hurts me deep, though. #yafantasy
Even though this book takes a step back from the romance, it's still a good story. Blood witches and the werewolves are introduced and all the tension when rivals meet. The barbed commentary and close calls made all the difference. It did progress slower and was frustrating when Reid refused to do the one thing that would make things easier. #fantasy #youngadult
Review https://www.behindthepages.org/post/blood-honey-by-shelby-mahurin-book-review
The 20th book of 2021! It was not as fast paced as the first one… I enjoyed the last 100 pages and hope the third is a good time.
The second in the series, continues where it left of from the first book. Lou, Reid, Coco and Ansel are on the run from basically everyone. I enjoyed the book, it has witches, witch hunters, wolves and much more. I think it is YA.
First Sunday without an obligation in a few months. I‘m enjoying being able to sit back and read and later deep clean the house. What are you up to today?
Gods and Monsters is out today! If you need a recap of either of these books, Serpent & Dove or Blood & Honey. Click this link to visit my podcast and get a recap! (Also available on Apple Music, Castos, and other main podcast platforms under “the book keepers”

What a fantastic sequel! I'm ready for the release of Gods and Monsters. 🥰
Been in a slight slump and I‘m so ready for this to pull me out. I‘m also so excited for #Gods&Monsters to come out next week!!!
🌟🌟🌟 I was stuck on whether this would be a ‘pick‘ or ‘so-so‘ rating for me. Blood & Honey was a bit repetitive for me, it just seemed like Lou and Reid were always doing the same dance of loving one another, then someone was mad at the other. The ending though is what got me! I‘ll definitely be reading the last book once it‘s out. #fantasy #romance #YA
Spring cactus in bloom!
This sequel book did a fair job picking up where the first ended. Although I‘m lost at where the final book will be going next. Let alone how mad I am at that ending. Lou is going down a dangerous path with her magic; who controls who? What keeps popping up is her and Reid falling in step of who raised them; they are learning how to change and grow into their own person. They love each other even when they fight
This book was VERY long. The first hundred pages or so could have been completely cut and it wouldn‘t have changed the story whatsoever. That being said, the ending picked up steam again. I fell back in love with the characters and the pacing was much better. Warning: the end of this book shattered my heart into a million pieces.

The biggest complaint I‘ve heard about this book is how Lou hasn‘t changed and learned from the past book. But I feel like this will explain some of it, that memory magic takes away from who you are. This is so early in the book that I guess I‘ll find out if it really does, or doesn‘t. I still really like the rules of magic in the world
Good follow up! Now we‘re stuck waiting for the sequel... I haaaate it when this happens. Wish I‘d have planned it better.
Dno if this was better than the first of the trilogy, but the story was good. I confused myself a coupla times, probably from listening too fast (and at the same time as the Ember in the Ashes trilogy!)
#2021
All set for #BookSpinBingo for March! Tagged book is my #BookSpin and Solutions and Other Problems is my #DoubleSpin. And already two books down!
2. This book dragged a little and I didn‘t love the direction Lou took. Despite that, I‘m still willing to see the series through and looking forward to reading book 3!
Figure it's about time for a mid-month update. Going to try to do this every month so I can keep better track. Let's see how far it goes 🤔

A day behind with this prompt but since I read the majority of this yesterday, I'm counting it. I didn't like this as much as the first book. It largely falls into the traditional "I'll protect you, no, I'll protect YOU" that second books tend to fall into when a romance and conflict are involved. I'm hoping to see much more character development in the final book. Still, it was a captivating read that I couldn't put down
#2020ReadYouNeverGotTo
Yay finally! Those that have written me know I was working on this book for forever!!! I think it‘s a classic book 2 in a trilogy where you‘re close to the action but it‘s not coming until book 3. Still it had great scenes and that ending!! I reread some and skimmed the rest that I had already read. Working on many books for #bookspinbingo I should have a few to post this week!
What happened?! The first book of this series was so sweet and funny- the tension was good but the characters were lively and fun. All of the positivity of the first book disappeared in this one. I found myself pushing through, wondering why these characters were actually doing anything they were doing and wondering if Mahurin got tired of her own book.
So much awesome stuff! Thank-you @Gissy for the lovely #bestof2020 swap package. I love it all!❤️😊 @candority

Day 9: Favorite Book of September
Blood & Honey - Shelby Mahurin
Holiday weekend project in full swing, and my usual photo area is temporarily gone. Have a happy holiday, and back to work for me.
I felt like I slogged through a rather large book (for me) for it to go nowhere. You did get to explore more of the world and meet a few people along the way. There were lots of unsolved things in this book. Characters that appear are mentioned then just arent mentioned again. I feel like there were multiple characters left in cliff hanger situations I don't believe a middle book needs to be that way to keep the story going or people reading.
So today ended up being a random free day. I usually start every free day with a to do list. Sat down, picked up a pen and realized with glee I didn‘t have any major thing to do!! I‘m in bed and reading! It needed to be documented! 🥳 I‘m going to eventually finish this book but I‘m enjoying what I have read so far.
Trying to make a dent in this. I‘ve been reading all month which is unusual for me. It‘s not that it‘s not good, I think the election and everything just got to me this month. Getting into some exciting parts though so I should finish soon let‘s hope! 🤞🏼😅
I was listening to the audiobook and that is probably why I can't make it through this book. It is supposed to be set in a fictional historic France with an american narrator (which I'm okay with) but for some reason a lot of the side characters have heavy British accents. There is a scene in a pub where after playing it back multiple times slowed down I still don't know all of what was said.
Halloween- perfect time to finish a book full of witches, werewolves, mermaids...Good follow up, but not as good as the first one. Not really a spoiler, because it happens throughout the book, but I didn‘t quite get everyone being so concerned about Lou and her impulsiveness. She was like that in the first book! She didn‘t seem that different from before until the very end. Everyone was so stressed about her, but that‘s who she‘s always been! 7/10
My copy is finally here. Already read the ebook version cause I couldn‘t wait but can‘t wait to open this up 😍 Edit. This is the fairy loot special edition box and no I won‘t post any spoilers for contents here
What was that ending?! I am not okay....now to wait for the rest of the journey in the third book.
The first half of the book infuriates me! Like I am sooooo mad with Reid and Lou. The second half picked up and was the saving grace of book 2.
I'm torn between a 3.5 to 4 for this one. But for book 1's premise, I will give this a 4.
