Once I got past the thick tension/creepiness building, I couldn‘t put the book down. A wealthy, famous couple hire a remote island setting for their wedding. Their secrets and those of their guests entertwine and the storm brings an explosion of emotion. Some twists and lots of creepiness. I should have saved this to read in October.
I read this for bookclub last week. There‘s this grindhouse, zombie apocalypse movie called Planet Terror. In the 1st 5 minutes we find ourselves in the dressing room of a go go club where these 2 topless women are kissing. While watching with the director‘s commentary he says he always puts nudity in the beginning because it‘s proven that people will pay attention to the movie more subconsciously hoping more nudity will show up. Imagine my 👇🏼
It was a little slow at first but the ending made up for it. I love a good plot twist!
Took a bit to get hooked, but really good! Suspenseful. Ending wasn‘t obvious.
A lot of character development but definitely picks up and is good at the end
🥱
Another contemporary thriller full of horrible people being horrible, with an over-the-top plot twist. I liked the setting and the concept, but it was still fairly predictable (despite that twist) and I only genuinely cared what happened to about 3 people.
I‘ve had my BOTM copy since April 2020 😳 but listened to the audio. Good narration for the most part, but I wasn‘t such a fan of the male narrator.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just finished reading this one. My first Lucy Foley- it was a quick read and I liked the fast pace with interesting characters. Also history of the area was in there too. The plot was not an easy one to figure- as “whodunnits” go. I recommend it. I‘ve got “The Invitation” checked out of hers.
Audiobook. This was a bit of an edge-of-your-seat book. Not told chronologically, you learn early that someone has been hurt or killed. But then the story is told through a handful of characters from different points within the long wedding weekend. And it works. I didn‘t know who the victim was, or who did it, until the author wanted me to. Very good.
Really good audiobook! Recommend. I did not see that playing out like it did. Everything became connected and the ending was satisfying to say the least.
Not for me.
"But no matter what happens, life is only a series of days. You can‘t control more than a single day."
My partner and I do not read the same kind of books (because he‘s boring and only likes nonfiction) but we both listened to this together as we moved across the country, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Had modern Agatha Christie vibes! It kept us alert on our drive and interested enough that we finished it too soon and then had to find another book! A good, not all blood and gore mystery book. TW: some suicide talk 9/10
I loved this book. 🤩
Each chapter is a characters retelling of events that happened. It goes back and forth throughout.
A wedding on a rugged Irish isolated island. A wedding and a body.
It was a real slow burner and I just wanted answers but I couldn‘t guess the ending.
Slow burning tension, great characterisation and left in the dark til the end. I‘ve loved both mystery books by Lucy Foley. 5 ⭐️ read
It's a psychological thriller and I can not stress enough that it is one of the best of its genre. From the wedding of two rich celebrities living lavish lifestyle to the murder happened on the wedding night at the island, the whole setting of the story is remarkable. You won't be able to guess the murderer till last. It's a must read for all the mystery lovers. ⭐
🤦 Yes. I suppose he is. So am I, I suppose. 😂 🤣
Book review update time!
Listened to the full cast audiobook recording of this book. Narration was excellent, but the story was a bit lackluster. I really enjoyed The Hunting Party by the same author, so I had greater expectations for this book, but was disappointed by the execution. The premise was great, but I found myself bored throughout the book, the characters were all terrible people, and even the “twist” ending couldn‘t redeem it for me.
The characters in this book were so awful I was hoping they would all be bumped off 😂
I found myself not caring who the murderer was as I didn‘t care about any of the characters and their stories were so weak and stupid
🎧 Holds on Libby are like buses, you wait ages for one then they all come along at once 😄
If you read Lucy Foley's first book last year it appears for the first half, very similar. Characters, setting all very reminiscent. The ending however, is not and tied together really well. Worth reading but not the most inspiring read of the year so far.
Finally read this! I wouldn‘t call it a brilliant book, but the end did take me by surprise. I took March off from #bookspinbingo because I felt like trying to fill in my squares was stressing me out to the point I wasn‘t reading because I couldn‘t choose a book😂 but I‘m back in the swing of it and hoping to put together a list for April 🥰 And I‘m still ahead of schedule for the year so far! 📚📚📚
An enjoyable thriller that owes quite a debt to Big Little Lies: five story lines converge to condemn toxic masculinity and the ricocheting effects of misused privilege. Loved the setting and the classic murder-mystery conceit. It was a fun read.
I had such a fun time finishing this murder mystery during a dark and stormy night ⛈ It was intriguing to guess who the victim was, while also guessing who was the murderer and their motive.
I loved all the tension created between the various characters, and reading about how all their lives connected. Very unsettling, anticipatory vibe throughout the whole novel.
I definitely want to read more by this author now!
Crazy busy start to the year so sneaking a day off in this Monday. Nothing to do but curl up and read with my little buddy
This was a fun, quick who-done-it. I liked how the author showed the perspective of different characters, but not all. Foley keeps you guessing. Now I want to give her other books a read as well.
Low pick only because of the ending. The ending was the best part, the last 20% or so. Gripping and suspenseful I couldn‘t turn pages fast enough. The rest of the book is just okay. The characters are all unlikeable, awful people and feel like copies of the characters from her previous work The Hunting Party. Think I‘m tired of mystery/thrillers full of awful people and college boys that never grew up 🤷🏼♀️
Wanted a nice easy read for a change after so many twisty books. I have read this authors other book and enjoyed it so hope this one is just as good.
Wow, what a doozy, and not a wedding I‘d RSVP to!! 😳🤣 My last #LMPBC book for this round, and it‘s a winner! Eerie and atmospheric it‘s a tale of secrets, revenge and just plain evil all culminating at an island destination wedding. Told in several voices, the suspense keeps building as the reader knows the reckoning is coming. So it‘s not so much a murder mystery but rather a who‘s going to get to the bad guy first! LOL Recommended. 4.5/5⭐️
Yay! Finished my 2nd library book for #FabulousFebruary Readathon while buried under blankets. The temperature has been below zero for days. 🥶 I am so ready for spring!!!!
Such a good book! 5/5 kept me guessing and took multiple unexpected turns at the end. Highly recommend! #Feb.2.6
12/22/2020 Ok, I couldn‘t put this book down and I am impatiently waiting to read the next book by this author. The nonlinear timeline is everything in this book. You know there is a wedding, you know everything falls apart, you know someone is dead. The author slowly and methodically weaves the web of this story together.
Nothing beats a little snow day reading. Absolutely loving this book so far. It‘s making it hard to put it down and get my homework done. #nursingstudentlife
Just binging the end of this gripping twisted tale!!! Loved it on audio
I am loving this book on audio, all the accents ❤️ I have gasped out loud a few times. So many twists, a few I guessed at. I just want the world to leave me alone to listen
One of the only books that multiple perspectives that work and flow perfectly. Loved the concept of the wedding that the problems are all within the wedding party, it was original and well laid out. The revelations of information are perfect, you know enough to keep you going but not enough to be sure about the ending. This book will keep you on the edge. In conclusion, it's a great murder mystery.
This one was gripping! Kept me guessing right up to the end.
I also finished Amanda Lovelace‘s newest collection for a total of 9 1/2 hrs. Now: One to Watch! My library hold has finally come through.

This was a great thriller. A group of people gather on a remote Irish Island to celebrate a wedding but as the weather gets worse and secrets come out someone won't survive the night 🌩
Six hours down! Finished Lord Edgware Dies last night (must say I like the alternate title Thirteen at Dinner better) and now I‘m about halfway through The Guest List. Definitely gripping! I love the eerie, windswept atmosphere. ☔️

Another book I never would've read if not for #NewYearWhoDis. Terrible secrets come to haunt the wedding party on a remote Irish island. Someone has been murdered, & there are plenty of possible victims & more than enough motives. I don't normally read mystery but I loved the atmospheric setting & the pacing. Everything was revealed so expertly & though I was worried the ending might leave me wanting, it turned out quite satisfying. @Laughterhp
The atmosphere is done so well – this deserted, dangerous, boggy island with a storm coming. The opening chapter starts with things going wrong during the wedding, then backs up to everything leading up to what happened at the wedding. Parts were creepy, and I was kept wanting to read. There were not very many likeable characters in this book, but there were a couple. No surprise here, but everyone had secrets
Trying to get back into the groove of dog walking now that I've been working with a trainer and have a little more confidence (and thick skin) in dealing with my sweet pup's less than sweet behavior around strangers. And good audio books are a plus!
A famous couple are getting married at an exclusive and secluded island resort off the coast of Ireland. Then a gale strikes and a body is found on the island! Who is killed and who is the murderer?? A fast paced edge of the seat thriller... Please read my review here https://rb.gy/f6tw61 and Like, Comment or Share 🔥

This book was excellent, I loved the different narration and the fact you didn‘t know exactly what the mystery was until later. Very much like knives out
