3.5 ⭐. There's a whole lot going on at the end of this book. Which then confused me about some unexplained happenings. The book was 4⭐ until the ending but I only took away a little.
Good read for Halloween.
Maggie was likable character, and I could understand her motive to investigate the past of her family.
I loved the atmosphere, this got me scared.
There were two timelines and both were intriguing. Knowing how there should be only 20 days in the past timeline made me intrigued to find out more.
My only complain is how I could see some of the biggest twists coming. Still overall really thrilling & entertaining book.
I was expecting more of a thriller/mystery set in a creepy old house, but it was more horror. If I had known about the snakes I would not have read it. The ending was pretty decent.
I read it in hours. It's such a great page turner. I literally consumed this book. Fast paced, twisty, gets you out of your reading slump. Guaranteed.
Good creepy thriller with a twist! The Holt family flees their estate in the middle of the night and little Maggie doesn‘t remember a thing. 25 years later after the death of her father, Maggie inherits the infamous haunted house made famous by a book her father wrote detailing their escape. Maggie sets out to figure out what really happened the night they fled and was everything her father wrote a lie or is the house truly haunted?
Starting this one on a very unseasonably warm October day! At least it looks like fall even if it doesn‘t feel like it 😂
Since today is Friday the 13th AND it's October, I'm taking a break from the book I started yesterday and listening to a spooky story while I work instead. Let's hope it lives up to the hype. First time reading this author.

What a great read. It was atmospheric, spooky and a gripping read. Her family only spent a total of 20 days in the house before fleeing in the middle of night and never looking back. A time that Maggie doesn't remember at all. I loved the alternating chapters of Maggies experiences and chapters from her father book “House of Horrors“. A mesmerising addictive read. The way it concluded, the perfect ending to this perfect book ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I read this, forgot to review it, so I bought it again to read! After a quick page through I realized my error and remembered I did enjoy this 😂
A very entertaining haunted house thriller. This tells the story of Maggie, who‘s life has been molded by the book her dad wrote telling the tale of a haunted house her family lived in briefly as a child. When her dad dies, it opens up questions of the truth of the haunted house story and she goes back to the house to get it ready to sell and answer many of the questions. It is fast paced overall, but at a certain point I did guess the mystery.4⭐️
The novel within a novel really adds to the twist.
“Baneberry Hall remembers.” This is a pretty good eerie story cleverly told in alternating chapters, some from the present day, and some from a book written by the protagonist‘s father. “The House of Horrors,” written to explain the events that occurred after Maggie‘s parents purchased Banberry House, posits ghosts as the proximate cause of a series of unexplained deaths. The truth is even more sinister. Good twisty ending.
This was my 4th book read in March and also my #BookSpin for the month. Pretty good page turner, but not as good as the other books I have read by him imo. I guessed the twist but that didn‘t bother me too much. I just felt kind of like really?! At the end 😂 I think this one might translate better on screen if it gets adapted. #BirthdayPixieReadathon #MarchMadness
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My first book by Sager. Its on top of my recommendation list.
Great read! I liked the back and forth from the present and the past. I‘ve read several from this author and thought I had the ending figured out but always a twist!
HOME BEFORE DARK by Riley Sager
A novel that is actually two novels.
Maggie grew up in a haunted house but has no memory of what happened. Her dad remembered, though—and he wrote a bestselling book all about the events (that we get to read!!). Now, 25 years later, Maggie returns to the infamous house to uncover the truth.
The semi-short chapters and alternating storylines make this one easy book to breeze through. It‘s a ghoul time.

Posted this on Instagram but thought I‘d share here too! 13 books that kept me 13 nights in anticipation of Taylor Swift‘s new album Midnights dropping tonight.📚🎶😄 #booksandmusic #taylorswift #latenightreading
Are there ghosts in Baneberry Hall or not? Well this was all sorts of twisty creepy fun to find out. I liked the telling of the two storylines because I knew Maggie was okay (not the kids, not the kids!) 25 years after the family terror.
1. Both - - okay, maybe Thriller a tiny bit more.
2. Serial Killer
3. Tagged. I don't read many spooky books. Because I'm a scaredy cat. Another spooky book on my TBR: Sun Down Motel.

Just my opinion, but not Sager's Best!
I give it 3⭐ instead of 2⭐ just because a part freaked me out and the last 50 pages kept me on the edge of my seat.
1. Home Before Dark (Chapter 9) An Affair of Spies (52%) Haven't read much past few days
2. I am allergic to caffeine
3. Invited to a friend's Halloween party

Went to Library to get something laminated and ended up checking out two books. Y'all have me reading two at a time now.
Starting this physical book and reading An Affair of Spies on Kindle.
This has been my favorite Sager to read, horror and mystery all combine for a compelling story. I feel like there were still some questions I wanted answered at the end! 👻
Meh… I actually quite liked a lot of this, but the ending and being what it was. I wish it was different and I wish more thrillers would just let it actually be ghosts.
Absolutely loved it! Maggie inherits a haunted house with a dark and sinister history and goes on a mission to discover her own family history; was her family terrorised by ghosts when they lived there when she was a kid or did her Dad make it all up to make money? Such a great premise and the writing was engrossing and fully immersive. Can‘t wait to read more by this author.
I completely forgot to post this one the other day. I finished it while I was on a road trip this past weekend. This one is creepy! First time I‘ve read this author. Won‘t be the last. For those needing a creepy read for the fall reading challenge pick this one up! @Clwojick
I really liked this. I listened to the audio. I thought it was appropriately creepy! It went back and forth between Maggie‘s current day viewpoint and her father‘s viewpoint from the time to weave the story together.
I know y‘all know which one I‘m most excited for😂😂 #SagBabies 🤣🖤
I also think I may own all of Danielle Vegas books now👏🏻👌🏻
Home Before Dark was a trip of a read! It did not read as a true horror book to me but it absolutely had the spine-tingling suspense that I was looking forward to. I had my ups and downs with Maggie and the story was a struggle at times because of the past-present transitions but, overall, Home Before Dark was an entertaining story.
Home Before Dark takes May!
It's always tough when I have more than one 5⭐ read for the month!
I went with Home Before Dark over People We Meet on Vacation for the fact that I could not put it down! Haven't had a book hold my attention like that for some time

This was the first book I have ever read that genuinely made me scared practically the whole way through. I wanted to stop, but I couldn't! The big twist was so good.

1. Definitely 4 stars so far. I have about 50 pages left and it's scary! Do I still read before bed and have nightmares? Answer: I haven't learned my lesson and the nightmares have been insane.
2. The House in the Cerulean Sea 😍😍😍
3. My sister. She is my person.

My favorite Sager 👻
LIKES
🔹The ghost story
🔹The mystery
🔹The MC wasn't an idiot
🔹The wide cast of (sometimes sketch) characters
🔹The corkscrew twists at the end 😳😳
🔹Ewan Holt and how we get to read his book along the way
DISLIKES
None come to mind 🤷♀️ This is a smart well thought out ghost story in a big spooky house with an excellent back story. 👏
*I love how Sager takes typical horror tropes and spins them into originals
Riley Sager had a formula that works for him. He is an author that I‘m okay with a formula. I loved this book. I loved the twists and I like the characters way more than the last Sager book I read. I feel like the relationships were deeper in this book. Like every other of his books, the last third or so was my favorite.
😂😂 I am diligently trying to get through my physical TBR pile, I swear!🤫

I have a good start (books in red I am currently reading) - but got some books before the numbers drawn - so I'm all over the place 🙂
