Loaded up my kindle in preparation for the looming federal government shutdown & my upcoming vacay.
My favorite headline about the shutdown is “Amid GOP confusion, U.S. braces for ‘first-ever shutdown about nothing‘”
Apparently we‘re living in a Seinfeld episode.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finished this adorable book while waiting at speech therapy with my little guy (hence the tiny chair in the background). It was super sweet and funny and not nearly as over the top with awkward and cringe-inducing sexy scenes as some rom-coms I've read lately - looking at you Tessa Bailey 🤮.
Currently reading. Reading this one cause i want to read the second book lol.
This is so cute so far! I feel like I‘m watching GBBO as I read.
This week‘s reads and up next. I finally got into the swing of reading at the end of the summer (after watching red white & royal blue too many times) and have been in the mood for sweet romances. Please send any recs this way 🥰
I really enjoyed this funny rom-com set during the filming of a nationally televised baking show that‘s purposely supposed to be a Great British Baking Show twin. Rosaline is a single mother, who dropped out of Cambridge when she had an unexpected pregnancy, much to the disappointment of her high achieving parents. There‘s a lot of emphasis on social class, maybe that‘s very British? The dialogue is really, laugh out loud hilarious.Fun read.
Combine GBBO, a bi baker and her precocious 8-year old as well as bestie-cool-aunt-ex, knead and then stir in some raging idiots, precious electricians and mad opticians. Leave to prove for romance and bake for however long it takes you to read this. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
November #doublespin finished! @TheAromaofBooks
This was a cute romance set in a British baking competition. Rosaline is a single mum whose life plan shifted when she got pregnant at 19 and now is trying to follow a new path with her love of baking. She struggles with confidence but soon finds friends and a possible love interest within the contestants. As a bisexual woman, she deals with many stereotypes and gaslighting about her life choices
I mean OBVIOUSLY CHOOSE THIS ONE

Such an adorable romance. If you like Hall‘s other romances, you should definitely check this one out.
Witty banter, a love triangle, lots of cakes, quirky characters and Alexis Hall's unputdownable writing.
Currently listening to this.
Lots of swearing and a primary school child that knows exactly which four-letter words she shouldn't say in school.
First book in Winner Bakes it All series. Second book is out in October.

It took me a few chapters to settle in, but I really liked it. I am a huge bakeoff nerd and I loved all of the references. The cast of characters is true to the bakeoff vibe and generally really likable, except the antagonist. It does a great job of having a bi main character in a straight-presenting relationship without erasing her queerness. I‘ve marked my calendar for the sequel this fall, and will be reading more Alexis hall in between!
Ran to the bookstore tonight to get a stack of cozy mysteries for my Grandma‘s birthday and oops I found the pride display. Don‘t worry, I got books for her too 😆 I can‘t decide what to start first! Fortunately it is a bojillion degrees in the midwest right now, so there should be plenty of time to read tomorrow. #queerbooks
A fun read. The characters are competing in a British baking contest and friendships and romance are cooking.
I love this sweet #swoonathonswap package! Thank you so much @Charityann 😘❤️ I know that these are going to be perfect reads when I have intense work weeks and need escape!
Thank you so much for hosting @kimmypete1 @MidnightBookGirl this was a great addition to Valentines Day ❤️
And with the completion of my #bookspin book, I have also got a #BookSpinBingo on the bottom row! Yay! 🎉
I completed this book for December's #BookSpinBingo just in the knick of time! I enjoyed this one, Rosaline took charge and the love interest was so cute. I absolutely love The Great British Baking Show which this book did a fictional take on so I really liked that aspect as well, although wish there was a bit more to it.
Glad to knock this one off of my TBR!

@Andrew65 Loving looking back and finding my #12Booksof2021 photos! #May
Not just Romance but also a story of personal growth and learning to stand up for yourself. I'm Childfree by Choice. Stories featuring Single Mum's and Children aren't usually my thing but I LOVED Amelie! Smart and funny. She taught me the meaning of sesquipedalian.
Also loved:
Baking Show Contestants weren't cutthroat but everyone trying their best. And Recipes!
A fun British rom-com, especially if you like Great British Bake-Off. The way one situation played out felt cringey and I wish it had been written differently, but otherwise I found myself laughing a bit and really liking it. Photo because I was picturing Candace as Rosaline the whole time.
I really liked this book: authentic #bisexual rep, quirky characters, witty British dialogue, baking (yum!), and a sweet love story with a working class hero and single mom heroine. The way Rosaline's bisexuality is an important part despite the love interests being cis men resonated. This book is marketed as a romance, which it doesn't fit as Rosaline spends 80% of the book dating a "wanker". I want much less Alain (wanker) and more Harry (hero)!
Another enjoyable rom-com! If you're a fan of The Great British Bake Off, you'll love this. It felt a bit long to me and I thought the competition took up a bit too much time, but I loved the variety of characters with different personalities. Rosaline's daughter was my favorite character, both precocious and childish in equal measure. Without giving too much away, I hated the audiobook voice for one character, but perhaps that was intentional.
3am reading with a sleeping baby on my chest.
Very funny dialogue and authentic bi rep so far! Love to see it.

Mixed feelings. Loved the writing style and voice. Despised several key characters (as I was intended to) which made it an unpleasant reading experience for many pages. The trigger warning on page 1, while understandable, made me tense for the entire book, just waiting for the inevitable. I also felt it took too long to get to the good parts..
My apple pie, on the other hand..🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
In any case, I still want to try Boyfriend Material now.
I have really fallen off the #WeeklyForecast bandwagon because of LIFE but genuinely miss looking back on Saturday to see if I actually read anything I thought I would haha So I am back!! The tagged book is this month's #LMPBC read, and the rest are the remaining books from my #BookSpinBingo. Maybe one of them will actually score me a bingo?!?
@Cinfhen are you still getting tagged for these posts??
Breakfast with Alexis Hall. It‘s off to a very good start!
Excited to be immersed in romance! #LibraryHaul 😁
I finally finished our #LMPBC book for September! It was a long one. I got involved with the characters which I like, but there was a bit too much sex for me. I was warmly satisfied with the ending though and I don‘t regret reading it. On to you, Sarah! #121 #BFC21 #FallIntoReading #Scaredy-CatReadathon2.0
I read this book as I sat next to my dad in the ICU during his last few days. It was exactly what I needed. Pure escapism and good book therapy. I love the GBBO and I loved the lgbtq+ theme/characters. I had moments with frustration regarding (spoiler alert, but this is a romcom so you will have seen this coming) her initial love interest and was so happy it ended up the way it did.
Had a fabulous Sunday afternoon. Read while my hubby did patio work.
This is a so-so because Rosaline annoyed the crap out of me. If this wasn‘t set up as a season of GBBO, I probably would have bailed.
I don‘t want to say too much since it‘s our #LMPBC read. If you want to see some of my thoughts, you can check out my goodreads review.
Hall‘s humor is a bit dry, & your eyes may be a bit moist by the time you reach the end…but this book‘s neither over nor underbaked. It‘s just right.
I laughed out loud at some of the witty banter. I raised a sympathetic fist in response to some of the sexual & political views expressed. I nodded in satisfaction at a smattering of sexy details.
I will say that the protagonist‘s daughter is almost *unbelievably* precocious. 👇🏻
If you like The Great British Baking Show and romance you‘ll love this book. It‘s (mostly) fun and will make you want to bake.
I‘ve been on audiobook spree as I get things done around the house.
PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE FOOD COMPETITION ROMANCES TO DEVOUR WHILE I SIT BY THE PUBLIC POOL!
This plot point seems to be everywhere recently and I am here for it. The characters were as sweet as the baked goods they made for their show and I would ABSOLUTELY read a sequel, whether it followed the same characters or just the same show. 🧁❤️🧁
Okay, I was already an Alexis Hall fan, but this story combines so many of the things I love about his writing, examination of class, and Britishness, and well, all with the background of a baking reality show. For Ripped Bodice Bingo can work for friends to lovers, and reality show.
Hey, group R of #LMPBC round 12! Here are my picks. My top pick is the tagged book because Alexis Hall is an excellent writer. I'll tag the others below. Let me know what you think!
@TheAromaofBooks @Laughterhp @Allylu
This is not a romance in the traditional sense. It‘s more a story of Rosaline learning and growing into the person she is without worrying about what everyone else thinks.
This book was fantastic. I loved the Bake Expectations scenes because they hilariously aligned with the Great British Bake-off, a show I love watching.
This was so fun for this bake off lover!! Lately I‘ve binged 10 seasons of the British and four of the Canadian and I was missing it. This is so well done!! It‘s hilarious and it just hit the spot for me right now!
I think Mary Berry would say it‘s scrummy!! 😄
And the Canadian female judge might say it‘s beautiful in her ridiculous Moira Rose unidentifiable accent. But I digress.... it‘s cute, fun, and funny. 💜
Not just Romance but also a story of personal growth and learning to stand up for yourself. If you read my reviews you see that being Childfree by Choice stories featuring Single Mum's and Children aren't usually my thing but I LOVED Amelie! Smart and funny. Well, that was truly delightful. Alexis Hall perfectly captures the Carry On like cheerfully smutty humour of Bake-Off without ever once mentioning soggy bottoms ? The word "innuendar" is a triumph. I liked that the host and judges were reminiscent of, without ever being copies of, the real ones and I loved the gloriously domineering and foul mouthed producer. It's a great romance too, with characters I really cared about ?
