Even though #Washington was the only new state I visited in September for #RoadTripUSA2022, it was a remarkable trip!

I visited four new states in August: Georgia, Hawaii, Oregon and Montana. (Actually, only half of The Paris Library was set in Montana. Th other half was set in France. If France wanted to become a state, I‘d vote yes in a heartbeat!)

July was a busy travel month. Five new states! Delaware was the most enjoyable. Colorado was the most thought-provoking.

Two new states in June. The trip to South Carolina was fascinating. The trip to Michigan, unfortunately, was just plain weird. May have to re-visit Michigan at some point, hoping for a better experience, lol!

Two new states this month:
Kansas - The Chicken Sisters
New Jersey - A Window Opens

Guess I need to spend less time in Britain if I‘m going to hit all 50 states by the end of the year!

megnews No pressure! I may not hit all 50 myself. 3y

So far I‘ve only finished two books that take place in the United States 🤔 Sparks Like Stars is mostly about Afghanistan but does eventually end up in NY! And A Flicker in the Dark takes place in Baton Rouge, LA! The rest of the books I finished in January took place in different parts of the UK 🥸 We will see where I end up in February!

#RoadTripUSA2022

megnews I read a lot of WWII fiction last month so I was all over Europe. 3y
mollyrotondo @megnews I think I have more books set in the U.S. on my list for February (even though the book I‘m reading now takes place in Bosnia 🙃) 3y
Addison_Reads Being from Louisiana, A Flicker in the Dark is a great choice for it. The descriptions of the setting are pretty accurate for the area. Enjoy. 😀 3y
mollyrotondo @Addison_Reads oh wow perfect! That‘s good to know because I have never been to Louisiana. The book was really really good. 3y

Would anyone care to join @megnews in this #RoadTripUSA2022 #readingchallenge? This would be a low key challenge with no requirement to read all 50 states, a meandering road trip as opposed to a strict itinerary. No need to plan out your books ahead unless you want to.

megnews Thanks for reposting! 3y

Texreader Sounds cool! Doesn‘t work for my current reads: a book about the Alps, a book set in Egypt, a book set in Norway, and the one set in America? It‘s about an apocalypse so no scenery. Ha! I‘ll try to save the idea for when it works with my reads. 4y

Car, although after 20 years in southern Cal I‘m beginning to weary of driving

I like to go someplace I haven‘t been before. But I‘m fond of Yosemite. And I want to take the kids to San Antonio.

Not exactly. We are traveling for a family event, and several trips for ice dance competitions. My son and daughter are each going away to camp.

Is it bad that after looking up the title of this book I now have ??"Surfin' U.S.A." ?? ? stuck in my head? ?

But seriously, I'm starting to get excited about the prospect of the hubby and I being on the road and listening to some audiobooks... or possibly a podcast or two? Maybe I'll get to sneak in some reading when I'm in the passenger seat??

Aside from what I have pictured above, does anyone have any more recommendations?

#audiobooks

Kristy_K If you like true crime then I suggest 7y
Hooked_on_books The Stand will definitely get you a long way. The Evangelicals is a good one, but it‘s relatively dense. I enjoyed the audio and it‘s also nice and long. 7y
LiteraryinPA I always go for an Agatha Christie read by either Hugh Fraser or David Suchet! 7y
See All 6 Comments
Librariana @Kristy_K - Columbine is one I'd definitely like to read, but unfortunately isn't available in audiobook format from either of my libraries or either of their lending services (hoopla and Overdrive). I'll definitely try my new library system once we arrive in Washington 😊 7y
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - that seems to be the case with both King and Hill books, isn't it? Detailed and lengthy! Lol! But on road trips, it's not a bad thing 😄 We also have The Fireman and Sleeping Beauties as potential contenders since we didn't have enough time to finish either previously. 7y
Librariana @LiteraryinLititz - That is not a bad suggestion AT ALL since we were curious about listening to Murder on the Orient Express before watching the movie. Thank you for helping jog my memory! Adding it to the list! 😄 7y

Hey Littens, I am planning a road trip to visit The Bookshelf in Thomasville, GA (cuz that is what I do when I need to get out of my head) this weekend. Of course, gonna buy new books. Any recommendations? I am looking for books I would enjoy reading AND would want to keep, either to reread or just stare cuz I loved it. I tend to use the library for read and enjoy, but not keepers. #thankslittens #bookrec

Sarah83 At the moment I love buying beautiful book editions. Maybe a classic you wanted to have on your shelf all the time? 7y

#readingroadtrip participants: you can use this map to track and update your progress on the challenge so others can see where you have been.

sprainedbrain I'm so excited for this road trip! Yesterday I finished my tentative route and books... barring any delays. 😃 7y
JenP @sprainedbrain woo hoo! Make sure you start a thread for yourself on the blog so include you on the scoreboard. I'm so excited! 7y
sprainedbrain @JenP I've got a thread, I think. I'm Jenni Langford on there. Should I (can I?) change it to sprainedbrain on the blog to make this easier? Also, can we link to our mini reviews on Litsy instead of Goodreads as we finish books? I usually rate books on GR but do reviews here. 😃 (edited) 7y
JenP @sprainedbrain oh, ha ha! No. Now that I know it's you, no need to change it. Yes you can link to your mini reviews here. (edited) 7y
Kalalalatja Ooh this sounds like fun! I am currently reading a book set in North Carolina, so I could begin there and then try to make my way through, if that's okay? 7y
JenP @Kalalalatja how far in are you? Should be fine but since it's a race, I want to make sure that everyone starts evenly. So as long as you have at least 120 pages left, then yes. It could be your starting state (edited) 7y
Kalalalatja @JenP I am around 800 pages in out of a 1440, so I think I am good 😄 7y
sprainedbrain @JenP ok thanks! 7y
JenP @Kalalalatja definitely! 7y
moranadatter Safe virtual travels! (edited) 7y
Kristelh I'm doing the #1001 version and starting in Delaware. 7y
JenP @Kristelh I'm going to try to both. I will probably fail. Also, you can do both versions using the 1001 books on the blog. That way you will be eligible for both prizes without doing extra work. 7y
JenP @moranadatter thanks! 7y
Kristelh @JenP thanks, I will have to keep that in mind. 7y
Betty @jenp can you explain the #1001 version or link/tag me to an explanation? 7y
JenP @Betty I'm also hosting the challenge for my 1001 group on Goodreads. So a few people are members of that group and participating in that version 7y
JenP @Betty I am one of the moderators for the group. We are reading our way through boxell's list of 1001 books to read before you die. I created a version of the challenge using 1001 books so nothing you need to worry about unless you are (or want to be) in the group. But that version requires you read very specific books.
