This Summer Will Be Different
This Summer Will Be Different | Carley Fortune
29 posts | 29 read | 13 to read
A glorious and tantalizing new escape from #1 New York Times bestselling author Carley Fortune. This summer theyll keep their promise. This summer they won't give into temptation. This summer will be different. Lucy is the tourist vacationing at a beach house on Prince Edward Island. Felix is the local who shows her a very good time. The only problem: Lucy doesnt know hes her best friends younger brother. Lucy and Felixs chemistry is unreal, but the list of reasons why they need to stay away from each other is long, and they vow to never repeat that electric night again. Its easier said than done. Each year, Lucy escapes to PEI for a big breath of coastal air, fresh oysters and crisp vinho verde with her best friend, Bridget. Every visit begins with a long walk on the beach, beneath soaring red cliffs and a golden sun. And every visit, Lucy promises herself she wont wind up in Felixs bed. Again. If Lucy cant help being drawn to Felix, at least shes always kept her heart out of it. When Bridget suddenly flees Toronto a week before her wedding, Lucy drops everything to follow her to the island. Her mission is to help Bridget through her crisis and resist the one man shes never been able to. But Felixs sparkling eyes and flirty quips have been replaced with something new, and Lucys beginning to wonder just how safe her heart truly is.

3.5⭐️ Found this to be a pretty good romance novel. I really liked the setting of PEI (been there and I would like to go back again) and the characters felt like they could have existed. Did feel that it lagged a bit in the middle of the book. #2024 #bookreview #romance #canadian #pei #contempoary #fiction

#bookreport & #weeklyforecast
#finished: I completed two books this past week and because I had finished a long book on the 5th, I felt like I had read way too much.

#currentlyreading: As I said above, I had read a lot over the course of over the week and a few days prior, that my brain just felt like mush and I didn't get much else worked on.

melissajayne #upcomingreads: I have another book club read (Huge) that I need work on and a book club book for November that is very long that I need to get started on (Aztec). The Don Lemon book is fairly short and The Housemaid's Secret should be a fairly quick read. 2mo

Due to the Thanksgiving long weekend here in Canada, my weekend is a little longer than usual. I am planning on hopefully getting to most of these during the next two days. #weekendreads

Love books which you can read in one day. This had all the features of what makes a good chick lit; love, angst, corniness with a healthy sprinkling of character development and independence. But what‘s better than the romance was the friendship dynamic between the main character and her best friend. Call me cliche but partners (guys) come and go but best friends are forever!

A sweet, unfolding story full of chemistry and big emotions. This is a perfect, fun summer read. I wish we got Felix‘s POV, that‘s the only thing that could‘ve made this better. Book #76 in 2024

This particular cast of characters is very privileged & very white. However, I loved so much about this sexy snack of a book! The setting, Prince Edward Island, is a (white way of) delight with all of the Anne of Green Gables references you could want. The love interest, Felix (aka Wolf) is dreamy. He‘s got all of the best traits in common with Jess from the Gilmore Girls & none of the annoying quirks that drove me crazy (not in a good way).👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: I do wish we‘d gotten a few more anecdotes about Bridget, the MC‘s bff & the love interest‘s sister. I spent more time than I should have wondering if I actually liked her and being annoyed with her commandeering spirit. The author writes, “The greatest loves are not always romances.” If that‘s the case, though this IS a romance novel, some more time could have been dedicated to the developmental details of their friendship. 5mo

I loved this one. PEI is someplace I want to visit again so I really enjoyed the locale for this book. This is my first book by this author and I‘ll be checking out some others.

Mehso-so

I am giving this a so-so because I just don‘t think I am the right reader for straight up romance 101 for twenty somethings. This is my third book by this author and I have the same complaint about all of them. This one was slightly more irksome because of all the ridiculous PEI references. I know, it takes place on the island but do we have to hear about Cows Creamery butter every time someone makes toast? Probably lots of readers will love it.

I loved this so much! Small tourist town, best friend‘s brother, growing pains to work through all make for a great summer read! Princess Edward Island added to my list of places to visit 😍 #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

This was so good! I liked how their relationship grows, the importance of being there and showing up for your friend, and really, Lucy‘s growth. The setting is magical too - I‘d really like to visit PEI now! #bookspinbingo #doublespin

June 12, 2024 I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. The ending was positive and she ends up with Felix. The end. I would give this book 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. If I could, I would say 5.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

June 12, 2024 Took a short break from reading and now I am on my reading grind. Going to finish this book soon and then move on to continuing the Daughters of Shandong. This is another good pick from Carly Fortune. Not sure which one I like more but this is one of my favorites by her.

June 7, 2024 I have reached page 191. Things are heating up between Lucy (aka Bee) and Felix. Since Lucy and Bridget are good friends, and Felix is Bridget's younger brother, Lucy is not quite sure how she can keep a secret from Bridget. Bridget herself seems to be hiding smth from Lucy. Neither wants to talk about it until Felix tells Lucy to pull Bridget aside. When Lucy realizes how Joy (Felix's ex) is perfect for him, Felix senses jealousy.

A little pre-summer #bookhaul for my tbr pile. How quickly will I actually get to any of these? 🤷‍♀️
Do I care that some might languish for a while? Also 🤷‍♀️.

Well, it seems I‘m an auto read for this author. This is a fun romance sans a ubiquitous fake-dating or miscommunication trope. It‘s also a celebration of supportive best friends. But what I most look forward to in her books is her love for all things Canada. 🇨🇦 I‘d love a stay on PEI, and Anne of Green Gables is added to my TBR!

CoverToCoverGirl Prince Edward Island is beautiful. I‘ve enjoyed many camping trips and visits throughout my life. The red sand beaches are beautiful. Don‘t forget to visit New Brunswick and Nova Scotia if you ever travel to the Atlantic Provinces. There‘s tons to see in my neighborhood. 7mo
