I‘m almost doonnne! Went in on my day off today to continue working on my #ReadersAdvisory Presentation that I‘m giving to all my colleagues tomorrow morning 🙈. There‘s SO MUCH I want to say 😂👏🏻🤦🏼‍♂️. Some more work tonight and I should be done. Whew! When I do something like this, I go all out. It‘s only an hour long, what am I thinking? TK-421 @flying_monkeys They‘re cheap assemble-at-home shelves made of particle board & laminate, I think. And they aren‘t reinforced, but I have mostly paperbacks & I try to put my heavier books on the bottom shelves or the “fixed” shelves in the middle to try to distribute the weight evenly. So far everything is holding up fine, but they‘ll probably end up bowing at some point. One day I hope to have some awesome built-in shelves! 5y

flying_monkeys @TK-421 yeah the bowing is creeping up on mine, and i didn‘t see any in yours so i thought maybe you had a method 🤓 i keep telling myself to make my own out of a good sturdy wood, but then the books multiply and they need homes so i grab another cheapie. 🙃 5y

Tex2Flo I have one bookcase made this way that I‘ve kept for over 30 years. I work out the bowing by turning that shelf over every year or so...to get the bowing going in the other direction. No perfect, but made that case still useful for another year. 5y

I‘m planning on making it my Bookish question of the day 😆, because everyone seems to have different criteria for what constitutes something we‘ve all heard before 🙈. In this case, I‘m making beach reads similar to airport books, something you‘ll find in a terminal. So, usually lighter material, more fun books. Also, books that tend to be associated with summer. 5y

So, I took control of my library‘s 2 displays starting in January 2018. I expanded that to 7-9 per month.

My goal was 1,000 books. Hit 1,500+! 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

How the heck am I going to top that for 2019?! 🙈

Librariana Curious minds... and I apologize in advance if the question is not the brightest... but! How do you calculate/tally these stats? How do y'all know at check out time if the item came from one of those displays? We use Workflows and can modify an item's location to show as Display. Do you use something similar? 5y

BookBabe Suggestion for how to top that in 2019: How about trying to display books that have appealing covers? (I know that‘s highly subjective.) A huge percentage of books I read, buy, and borrow are because I was drawn to the cover. Just two cents from your resident aesthete. 😉 5y

MrBook @Librariana An excellent question! We use Evergreen, and we too can change the status to “On Display” and I can create personal buckets for each display I set up. I check those bucket lists everyday and compare to what‘s still there (usually takes 30-60 minutes). When someone checks out an item, the status changes to “Checked Out” and automatically reverts back to the default category, which is “Available”. It‘s tedious but helps! (edited) 5y

Books and publications aren't the only thing librarians deal with. Like this, for example. Syncing SEVEN(!!!) Tracfones and all the email and apps on them. 😂👏🏻 I've never encountered a person with so many cell phones. Oh, this is a blast right here! 😆

There were two absolutely delectable cakes at today's party 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😋. (I thought I got both of them fully in the picture 😆.) This gorgeous main one was chocolate. The other one, on the left, was vanilla. Those were real flowers! They were maaahhhvelous! Librarians can bake 😎👌🏻👌🏻.

My day was jam-packed with shoring up my displays (the Beach Reads one alone needed 16!!! books!) and organizing our prizes for the #SummerReadingProgram, which I've been diligently collecting for months 😁.
