As someone who recently get back into therapy I kind of understand if someone uses this place for escape. But the very existence and ability to read is a political act so nothing on here is outside of politics. 2mo

PuddleJumper There's no shame in wanting a positive place away from the chaos but you curate that. You follow people that post things like that and unfollow people that don't. If other people want to use the platform to share information then they can. As many people said, reading itself is political and a reading platform may have people that want to engage rather than regurgitate propaganda. 2mo

Susanita Why block when you can simply unfollow or scroll past? Thinking that politics is simply something that happens “out there somewhere” and we can glide through the world not paying attention, frankly, is one of the reasons we got into this mess in the first place. dabbe @Amiable She announced nothing but went quietly into that good night. In fact, she had commented on a different post yesterday, so when I went to read the comment, nothing was there. The button to “follow“ her was now there (where I had been following her for years). When I went to look at her page, it was completely blank to me. It's as if she never existed, though she's still on Litsy. 🤷‍♀️ 2mo

When you are blocked, you can't see ANYTHING of theirs. Ever. I even posted something a while back, saying I'd use the words “#ranttime“ when I posted something political and that people who didn't want to see it could just block the hashtag. I guess that wasn't enough. Thanks for the support. 💙🩵💙 2mo

dabbe @PuddleJumper Like a told @ChaoticMIssAdventures, I even came up with the hashtag #ranttime and said I'd use it when I posted more serious things and that if people didn't want to see those, all they had to do was block the hashtag (kind of like those who don't like all the #scarathlon posts could just block them by blocking that hashtag)--just to try to keep everyone in their own happy-Litsy place. I guess that wasn't enough. 😕 2mo

dabbe @Susanita I think she really wanted to send me a message. If you “unfollow“, a person can still see your feed. She wanted to make a clear divide. And, in a way, I think that's also what's wrong in our country. Too many clear divides being made. 🫤 2mo

JamieArc I saw someone else recently who was pretty prominent on Litsy leave because they didn‘t want to see political posts and thought we should only be posting about books and reading. But this is a community and we get to know each other and want to know about their lives. Personally, I feel safer knowing where those I interact with stand and can be my whole self. I appreciate you. 2mo

Roary47 Wait…what? Sometimes I worry my very inquisitive son does things on accident for me when stealing my phone. I agree with @CBee we all have our opinions, and you can keep scrolling and still enjoy common books together at later times. I understand wanting a positive scrolling experience when for many if not all of us reading is a release, but you can unfollow someone and not read their posts anymore. 🤷‍♀️ Or like you said @dabbe block the hashtags 2mo

rwmg I really don't see the problem. I have a look at some posts on somebody's homepage and some of their books before I decide whether or not to follow them. I know I'm not going to like (or “like“) all of their posts. If I realise somebody's posts I dislike greatly outnumber their posts I like I unfollow them. There's no need for all this drama.

Centique I for one appreciate hearing about who other Littens are, how their lives are going and how they feel affected by huge events around them. So that includes politics! If Litsy was only smiling faces that never showed anger or worry or pain - or spoke about politics - it would be like a forest of fake plastic trees (to quote Radiohead!) This makes me sad. I can understand unfollowing someone or blocking a hashtag if you prefer not to see certain posts, especially for mental health/stress/anxiety reasons. (Just like sometimes I can‘t even watch the news so I turn it off.) But totally blocking⬇️ 2mo

And if anything, shouldn‘t we all be striving to cultivate positive connections with each other through things we do have in common?
