I forget how healing saunas are for me both physically and mentally. I took one on Wednesday when I couldn't take the joint pain anymore, and it did wonders. I really need to get on a sauna schedule.

The narrative ends with an ellipsis (...) after Nick and Mr. McKee leave a party, suggesting a passage of time and a sexual encounter. This is supported by details like Nick being in the bedroom and Mr. McKee being in his underwear, which would have been unusual for two heterosexual men to be in that situation in the 1920s. dabbe @Bookwormjillk I also think so because of his relationship with Jordan, a tomboy-ish female who plays golf. And that relationship doesn't work out, nor did his one with the girl back home. He seems in love with Gatsby or the idea of him. All inferences, but hard ones to ignore. 2w

Clare-Dragonfly Oh good, I‘m so glad I‘m not the only one seeing the subtext (and that it will get even more explicit)! When Sebastian was wearing Ryder‘s tie I was like “it can‘t be, this is a WWII novel” and then the teddy bear and he‘s weird but charms everyone and one of his friends at the party is an aesthete… and then the aesthete tells SEBASTIAN that he‘d like to fill him full of ARROWS… and I‘m delighted that it‘s totally gay. 🏳️‍🌈😁 2w

CBee I feel you on all of this. I‘m going to try fireworks again with J and have his headphones on. We‘ll see. We‘ve avoided it the past few years for sure, but it‘s just us doing it so not one of the big shows (which I wouldn‘t want to go to anyway). Basically doing fireworks because we like them - not so much to celebrate. 3mo

We saw the weather forecast for the next week, and it included all the terrible “H” words that we hate about summer: hazy, hot and humid. 😖 We know that many people look forward to beach days all winter long, but WE DO NOT CARE for this weather and these temperatures. At all. We will be spending the weekend indoors with a book to avoid the humidity.

dabbe OMG, I'm so with you on this one (as you already know). The dogs are sulking right now because it's just too damn hot to take them for a walk! Two days ago, it hit 117ºF with 60% humidity! I'm so friendly with my air conditioner at this time of year that I think I need to give her a name! 😂 3mo

Amiable @dabbe My husband and I were talking the other day about locations with extreme heat, and he wants to know what pet owners do in places like Arizona? Do you have to buy little shoes for the dogs? There‘s no way they can walk on the sidewalks in 117-degree heat! (edited) 3mo

dabbe @Amiable If we don't get out by 7 AM, they don't go. We always check the concrete with our own hands, too, before we go. And yes, we've tried booties (especially with our greyhounds), but Kate and Pip hate them. So, if we don't go, they pout all day. 😂 3mo
