#TLT #ThreeListThursday

As an English and AP Literature teacher, some of these banned books have been part of our curriculum. I love my i read banned books shirt!

I've read all three of these books several times over the years:
📚 The Awakening- this is one of my all-time favorite books!
📚 Of Mice and Men
📚 The Handmaid's Tale

And honorable mentions go to:
📚 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
📚 all of Stephen King's books

@Dabbe

dabbe #amensista! I have a shirt that says \“I teach banned books\“, and I\'d proudly wear it on the first day I\'d introduce a book like HUCK FINN or OF MICE AND MEN. We\'ve got to keep fighting the good fight, right? P.S. Your pic is adorable. Thanks for playing and sharing! 🧡🍁🧡 2mo

IndoorDame The 5am thing was especially bizarre 🙄🤔 4mo
dabbe @IndoorDame I know this is fiction, but I thought the same thing! And I wanted to ask him, “Where did you get that so-called fact?“ If only we could talk to the characters! 😂 4mo
IndoorDame @dabbe I know!!! I would be yelling my head off at all my books if the characters could could actually hear me 😂😂😂 4mo

Read4life The 5am thing was mine. I actually stopped reading and sat there for a few minutes. Really? 4mo
dabbe @Read4life I did, too! 🤩😂🤗 4mo
Bookwomble You'd be surprised at the things some British police officers are prepared to overlook in the cause of improving case completion rates 🫠 4mo
Librarybelle The 5am thing for sure! 4mo
CogsOfEncouragement Honestly, I figured they had friends in low places who would have kept tabs on him

I don't watch hardly any real crime shows - but my husband and I just watched three. Two recent cases, one in the 1980s and yeah, I believe an investigator would absolutely act like Lanner. Sad but true.
4mo
Cuilin @Librarybelle @IndoorDame @read4life so the 5 AM thing led me down dark rabbit hole. I always thought more suicides would occur during the dark winter/holidays but I was wrong and more occur during the spring on Mondays and Tuesdays. I doubt they kept records of this during Victorian times. (edited) 4mo
Librarybelle @Cuilin That‘s sad but interesting. I would have thought the dark winter and holidays as well. 4mo
Aimeesue I usually just blaze right on by the odd things Victorian police officers think/say, tbh. Criminal investigation as a science was new and pretty iffy at that point. 4mo
dabbe @Bookwomble Possible coercion within a police force? And only British? Shocking! 😱😂😊 4mo
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement It seems to be only our head detective/main character/hero is the one who truly gets to the bottom of things in any of these stories. 4mo

The Iliad | Robert Fagles
post image

#TLT #ThreeListThursday

1. Translations make all the difference. Robert Fagles' translation of THE ILIAD made me appreciate what I hated in high school.
2. THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING: by far my favorite Arthurian story.
3. SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson: to remind me that EVERY story is essentially a hero's journey, and it doesn't have to be “super“ or “epic“. It just has to feel real.
All are welcome to play and tagging as many as I can! 😍

TheSpineView Thanks for the tag!😘💜🏷 9mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile Thanks for the tag 😄 9mo
CBee #3 - I agree wholeheartedly! I‘d have to mention the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and of course the Hobbit - heroes come in all sizes ♥️ 9mo

julieclair Thanks for the tag! I need to step up my hero quest reading game, because the only one I can think of is Harry Potter. But I do have a 3-list Hero Quest TBR: 1. Percy Jackson 2. A Court of Thorns and Roses 3. The Hobbit (hard to believe I have never read this). 9mo
iread2much Thanks for the tag 1. The Redemption of Althalus, 2. Silver on the Road, 3. Tailchaser‘s Song. 😊 9mo
dabbe @julieclair That's kinda why I ask these questions! I'm always looking for new books--even though I have too many on the TBR as it is. I guess you could call it my book quest! 🤩 Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚 9mo
dabbe @iread2much I need to read more fantasy! All on the TBR now. Thanks for sharing. The Redemption of Althalus, 9mo
julieclair @dabbe I‘m right there on the book quest with you. There is no such thing as too many books on the TBR! 😉📚📚📚📚📚💙 9mo

iread2much @dabbe my husband and I both love that book, it was one of the books that was featured in our wedding cake 🎂 (it was a stack of books) 9mo

The Rachel Incident: A novel | Caroline O'Donoghue

Bailedbailed

#LitsyToB24 I listened to the audio version and the narrator had a lovely Irish lilt. I think that‘s why I listened for as long as I did. But I felt like I‘d already spent more time than I ought on a book that just didn‘t interest me. I hope other people are getting more from reading this than I could.

AmyG I am reading now and waiting for the damn incident. I almost bailed a few times. 10mo
CatLass007 @AmyG I actually listened to about 75% of the book and I just couldn‘t listen anymore. I can‘t figure out if it‘s because I didn‘t like the story or maybe I‘m just too damn old. 10mo
AmyG I have been feeling a bit too old for this story, too. But I am sticking with it. 10mo

CatLass007 @AmyG I enjoy reminiscing with friends about college or moving to New York. But I‘m not getting the feeling that she‘s reminiscing so much as dwelling on and regretting. 10mo
dabbe #hailthebail! 🖤🩶🖤 10mo
CatLass007 @dabbe I think the first book on which I ever bailed was 11-22-63 when it was first released in 2011. It felt like such a sacrilege. But when I joined Litsy (I think it was in 2017) it was the first time I felt that I‘d been given permission to bail. I realized I was giving myself the gift of time. 10mo
squirrelbrain It‘s great how we all like / dislike different books - I loved this one! 😃 10mo
BarbaraBB I loved this one, but I always encourage bailing when you don‘t 😉 10mo
dabbe @CatLass007 #amensista! 🤩🤗😍 10mo
Megabooks Sorry this didn‘t work for you! 10mo
CatLass007 @Megabooks @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain Y‘all do such a great job!! I‘ve tried a lot of new authors because of #LitsyToB24. Some books I‘ve loved, some books I didn‘t. There are authors I know I will add to my favorites list and others I might give a second chance. The great thing about using my Audible credits is that I can return a book within 365 days of purchase and get my credit back. It‘s a win/win. 10mo
BkClubCare @CatLass007 - huh, I have not had any luck getting Audible to accept a return lately. Wonder what I am doing wrong. Sad this one didn‘t work but it‘s great if you could return for another that does work for you. 😊 10mo
CatLass007 @BkClubCare How are you trying to return it? I always have to call customer service. 10mo
BkClubCare @CatLass007 - oh. Haven‘t tried that option. 😂 It used to be a button right next to the title! The last one I tried to send back, I was told the option was no longer available 🤷🏻‍♀️ 10mo
CatLass007 @BkClubCare They must accept returns within 365 days of purchase. That‘s per the lawsuit they lost. I don‘t think that button has been available for quite a while. You definitely should call customer service directly. I don‘t have the number on speed dial but I call it frequently enough to have it saved in my contacts. 888-283-5051. At first they had to accept all returns, both those purchased with “cash” and credits. (cont)⬇️ 10mo
CatLass007 @BkClubCare Now they only have to accept the returns purchased with credits. 10mo
BkClubCare @CatLass007 - great, thank you! 10mo
CatLass007 @BkClubCare You‘re welcome. I hope you get the return made easily. 10mo

For me, the year cannot truly end without Dave Barry's Year in Review. IMHO, his satire is, as always, spot-on.

If interested, here's a link to read it for free:

Ruthiella I‘ll have to check this out. I used to read his column in the newspaper years ago and found him very funny! 😄 11mo
Kimberlone Funny the link you shared is from my local city newspaper! 11mo
AnnR Thanks for the link. ? In summary, as Charlie Brown would say, "Good Grief." ? 11mo

Pickpick

I've had this on my shelf since 2005. A Victorian holiday mystery: when Sir George Braxton is found face down in a frozen pond with his head bashed in, Inspector Witherspoon is called in to solve the case. Only the help of his housekeeper, Mrs. Jeffries, and her staff will allow the inspector to have a peaceful Christmas. A fast and fun read along the lines of a Christie mystery. I may now have to read all of them.
