so-soSo I figured out who the killer was right away. But I was really enjoying the first half of this book because I thought no way it would be this obvious. So I was looking at every clue in this book and trying to prove myself wrong. Alas, I was not. Really disappointed in that. I kept trying to disprove myself tho because I didn't think the person was a very good character to be there killer. As always with Ruth Ware, the book was just too long 3/5

While bummed that unseasonably mild temperatures have undermined my original reasoning for reading this snowed-in thriller in winter, I am glad that I was at least still right about Ruth Ware being reliable.
She‘s become a go-to for me; even when I call a βtwistβ early, it never prevents me from enjoying the rest of the book. Not something I can say about many authors in the genre.

pickI always know I‘m going to enjoy a Ruth Ware novel! This one felt fitting for this time of year, with a snowy ski chalet and an avalanche that all but traps the characters together. And of course people start dying and our characters try to figure out who‘s doing it while also staying alive. I kind of knew who the killer was pretty early on but still enjoyed the ride! ππππ

Makes me think of winter reads though, and Ruth Ware is always a win in my opinion. Even if I figure it all out before the reveal I enjoy the ride.

pick8 hour flight to Hawaii? Finished 2 books! Loved this one, she does such a great job of a new twist on a must in a unique setting and this is a good one! And since I finished it and the flight attendant asked if I liked it and shared that she loves a good mystery, I passed it along to her so now I don‘t have to haul it all over for the next week. so-soI was disappointed in this. I suspected who the killer was and I‘m usually way off base but this time I was right. It was just VERY predictable! I kept thinking there would be some twist that made it less obvious, but sadly, no. I finished it, but not my favorite π΅βπ« this counts for #booked2022 #titlerepeatsitself so yay!
My choice for the #LetterO is one of my favorite Ruth Ware books.

This was my second Ruth Ware, after THE TURN OF THE KEY, and I enjoyed it a lot despite a couple of weird pacing things. It got me wondering if she uses a basic formula for her books, though. I‘ll say a bit more about that in the comments, since it kind of gives the game away.

pickI‘m way behind on reviews and checking in with Litsy, and it‘s high time I caught up! So, this was my #Doublespin, and I really enjoyed it. I don‘t read many standalone thrillers for whatever reason (I guess I prefer to spend time with the same characters?) but this was a gift in my #bestof2021 swap box from @MaleficentBookDragon and boy it was a terrific pick. Ruth Ware writes entertaining thrillers, but this wasn't her best. The setting was great, but the characters annoyed me. As people start dying I found the reactions from the other characters to be too relaxed. If I wake up to find a person I know dead, I'm going to be freaking out! These characters acted like it wasn't really a big deal.
Literally reading the words βelectricity‘s gone outβ as my light flickers and dies and we get a power cut.
SO CREEPY
pickI really enjoyed that this was a whodunit style thriller set against the back drop of start up culture. I spent 4 years at a tech company and recently had my heart broken when they sold to a big corporation, so it hit close to home. That aside, this turned out to be a more complex and layered mystery than I was expecting, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time (even once I guessed the killer). Great pace! ββββ

The anticipation builds! So many good things to open in my #bestof2021 box !
We had my brother & nephew here for our annual New Years get-together this weekend, and of course we missed 2020, so it was extra special. We also lost my sister-in-law last March, so it was extra emotional. I realized after they‘d left this morning I had my beautiful swap box to open, and here we are!
pickYeah yeah, it was good. Kept me interested and wanting to finish it. The ending was a bit dragged out, I think it coulda been shorter.
The thing is⦠I dno, I was happy that it ended. The characters were a bit one dimensional, which was extra noticeable bc the setting was so isolated.
Despite all that, it was decent. I hear her other book Turn of the Key is good, so I‘m def adding that to my tbr!

I listened to One by One by Ruth Ware; the setup is a familiar one-a group of people snowed-in to a ski chalet begin disappearing and dying. It was fast-paced and thrilling. Nothing memorable long-term, and the reveal wasn't surprising (maybe wasn't supposed to be? ) but an enjoyable escape while it lasted.
pickA friend lent this to me and I quite enjoyed it. My first Ruth Ware and can see the appeal. A locked room mystery that was a touch cliche but very suspenseful and the final show down is super exciting. A good payoff, would definitely read others by her.

Suspenseful quick read. Loved how each "chapter" was a from a different person's perspective. Felt lots of connections between this one and The Sanatorium-- a big one being the setting but also lots of revenge.

pickI've been quiet lately because instead of bingeing on books I've been bingeing on a podcast about tarot and esoteric symbols etc.
But this audio hold came in and I gobbled it pretty quick on my long runs and today. Not the best Ware, imho, but still obviously entertaining. I think I saw a few of the twists coming so I feel the first half may actually have been stronger.
Also, delicious cookies! Because I didn't make pie and my beau grumbled π
