Yay!
Yay!
#wonderousWednesday
1.I liked Tag , Hide & Seek ,we had some weird croquet and bocce ball games when I was older.
Indoor board games, especially Monopoly ! Clue !
2.Someone mentioned pre VHS ,DVD days Wizard of Oz was on network TV once a year , you marked the date ! Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer and all the Peanuts holiday specials we looked forward to! I was a horse book girl, also remember fondly when mom & I read Little Women together!
Took 3 months for this hold to come in ,started today. I was around to clearly know that the Reagan years were the beginning of the end and predicted how we got here. I‘m sure it will fill in some details and I get to get mad all over again!😡
#serieslove2025 a CDC doctor gets taken , a month later,a big blast near CDC , a university,2 hospitals and a FBI field office. As Sarah and Will rush to the scene ,chaos ensues,Sarah is abducted, and there is no doubt a larger conspiracy is at hand.
Dark forces have bigger plans , both Will and Sarah will be challenged to even survive, let alone stop a group who doesn‘t tip their hand about the plan . Very intense read .
#JuneSpecials #Flag playing catch up. This book was published in 2004 .So much has changed in the political climate since then .🙄😱
My #NoKings Scottsdale,Az. It was super hot ,even though I love the bigger numbers down by the Capitol, it‘s hard to get in & out of there quickly if you are sensitive to the heat and I am .Was blown away by the amount of people on 4 corners of Camelback and Scottsdale road . People were connecting, passing out water , seniors in large numbers .Bless them all.It started at 8 am to leave before businesses opened. lots of honking as cars rolled by.
It‘s #caturday After going to a protest I wanted something sweet and gentle to calm myself down! This sweet book did the trick. While using the alphabet to describe cat characteristics, they describe different breeds of cats and the general domestic house cats most of us rescue or adopt!
Her story, fascinating. Yes,TWs galore,to read her experiences growing up in a cult called the Children of God ,shocking & sad .It is really amazing how she decided to leave at 15, tried to start at school, had to be tested to be placed , she didn‘t exist! Though born in the US she lived in many places to stay one step ahead of problems for the cult .joined the Army, was in Afghanistan,an era where her right to be there was challenged .
🫣😬
So many delightful designs! Her inspirations span history, cultures , trends,& traditions
#JuneSpecials #Cheese I remember really enjoying this years ago. I don‘t have a copy to refresh my memory!😄
#JuneSpecials #Egg Kenny Shopsin begged an Arminian grocer to sell him his corner bodega .Kenny continued cook their signature roast beef for sandwiches, with a simple set up eventually had over 900 offerings. A neighborhood favorite in the Village , NYC for decades. Kenny also had a temper , and fools probably wouldn‘t get served. I ate there twice, guess I didn‘t act like a fool! Love this slider on the cover of this book.
#JuneSpecials #GoBarefoot a deck of poses , I should do more yoga again . balance is important ,also maybe I could calm down!🧘♀️
#Bibliophile #FoundInTitle Bet there are some great and not so great in here . I was browsing on the B&N site, will definitely take a look if I find it somewhere.
#Bibliophile #LostInTitle one of my favorite books about the time period. She knew everyone who came through Paris at the time.Hemingway,Fitzgerald, Stein, James Joyce . She was the first to publish Ulysses.
😡I like @DogMomIrene have a “Prevent Democracy Dying “shelf where it will have a space.I too struggled with online version Mandate for leadership (992 pages).Reading this distilled version clarified so many things that we see happening everyday.
Bullet points from back cover.Enforcing traditional gender norms.😡decimating civil service 🤬performing mass deportations 😡reducing corp. regulation & worker protections 😡 An important read.
How could I resist 2 Bookish cat postcards ?!?😸
My highest praise. It is written as diary entries, what is happening to him & society as Hitler rises to power. He sees the stupidity, the cruelty, the arrogance. How such a regime destroys everything in its wake .The past ,the present, the future.Unfortunately, It is too relevant in this particular moment. Very moving, so glad I read it. I had heard of it years ago, then Tim Miller mentioned it in The Bulwark podcast.Beautiful writing, sharp insights
#Bibliophile #ZInTitle I read this years ago and really liked it . Captures the culture of Germany between the Wars .Rainer Werner Fassbinder did a 15 hour film version of this book. This book was also in the list of titles in this week‘s #ThreeListThursday quiz. Franz is out of prison, trying to built a life , gangsters, petty thieves, unemployment lines,& other challenges stand in the way of his stability.
#TLT #ThreeListThursday should say 1900s actually.
I‘m surprised I am not a bit higher. Really read many around the WWI era.
Room with a View , Howards End EM Forster fantastic. I love James Joyce, you don‘t need to read Ulysses, read Portrait of An Artist as a Young Man, The Jungle , Great Gatsby of course. E E Cummings Enormous Room is an impressive book about the WWI era.
#Bibliophile #RedCover What other color would this one be? 😁
#SundayFunday well , I have read Gone With the Wind , Anna Karenina, War & Peace .With the Tolstoys it depends on what edition you read what the page counts are (a lot) . The old hardcover edition of GWTW has 1,037 pages . Also have read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand 1168 pages . I was amazed when I saw Littens reading the giant Clarissa, I do have it here somewhere but I haven‘t attempted it .😄
Someone recommended this book to Tim Miller of The Bulwark, he added to footnotes, I borrowed it. Originally published in 1947, Reck details the rise of Hitler and Nazism with appropriate horror. I‘m only a bit into it , this paragraph !
#Bibliophile #PulitzerWinner Very worthy of all the love it gets ! Incredible read #chunkster
#Bibliophile #NewburyWinner published in 1930 It‘s probably one of the reasons I love cats and have some compassion.
Puzzle was on sale , I know this book will take awhile. I stubbed 2 toes this afternoon, not thrilled. Guess I will have to keep it up & read the rest of the afternoon.
Seen at Barnes & Noble , just feels right! 😂
Found for cheap at a Library store, one even has an old Borders sticker on the back, sigh.
Libraries are helpful in so many ways .
picked this up on indie bkstore day from Changing Hands pop up shop of banned books. The Tangs move to the US for a better life. This book is really upbeat, yet doesn‘t sugar coat how they are exploited by a hotel owner as mom, dad,& daughter Mia do everything to run a motel owned by a guy who only pays them part of the cost of a nights stay. I was joyful to watch them slowly find some success while not losing their empathy. Mia, a super character
FYI I found these reasonably priced cat toys at my local indie pet shop, Made in the US . Buy one rod , lots of different toys to switch out . Of course, had to think how long will they remain inexpensive, where do their materials come from? Stupid tariffs.
#Bibliophile #BkBasedOnPainting I read all of Blocks Matthew Scudder books , this book is from a more lighthearted series about a gentleman burglar named Bernie Rhodenbarr . Read a few of those too. Enjoyable.
Today‘s thrift store finds ! A reissue series from the 1990s . I have several, always great to add to the set ! $1.50 both .Love these covers
