Always happy to find a green Virago at a book sale !
#NationalLoveYourPetDay Really? I love them everyday ! Tom Tom , currently the oldest gentleman cat !
A well written small town saga that takes place in the 1958. The town is small enough everybody knows everyone, big enough to have a lot of dark secrets. Murder mystery filled with memorable characters doing what they need to do to get by , nice layers of intrigue. Enjoyed it very much
When a little bookstore stamp sends you down the rabbit hole ! https://laist.com/news/la-history/stanley-rose-bookstore-literary-las-hottest-sp...
Middle class smut from the sixties. I read them as a kid hiding them from my parents. I don‘t remember much only the feeling of being subversive!😂the Carpetbaggers 1961, tagged book , 1966. I probably would find culturally offensive things now , but look at those covers ! From the big book sale.
#Bookplates If you look closely you shall see the new owner erased the name of the original owner from this one.
#TLT #ThreeListThursday Thanks for the tag @dabbe

#BlackHistoryMonth This one has been on my radar awhile, fortunately I found a used copy in a store where I had some trade credits (Yay) Antonia Hylton has the right background to write this unique study,a Harvard grad that often writes about race, mass incarceration, and psychiatry.
Thanks for the tag @dabbe

This one is a bit of a Romcom with a serious side . You have to pull for Emma, who worked hard on her sobriety & got that one year chip. Now she wants to begin dating again, she‘s not sure where to start. Life still throws a lot at her, her mother has kept a year long relationship on the qt , Emma‘s alcoholic father reaches out, after barely communicating for years , she doesn‘t know what to expect. There is dark humor & a lot of heart in this one.
Focus Features send an email with merch celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1995 film of P&P. This one made me laugh & cringe at the same time! 😁
Sofie gets an internship at a major publishing house, thrilled because she‘s a reader. Gunnar, a major editor is charmed by Sofie giving a candid & spot on criticism of a work soon to be published. So begins a plutonic mentorship between Gunnar, editor of his own imprint & Sofie. They both have a high minded drive to publish books of significance in a world that is more interested in large sales & trends. It is full of passion for art not commerce.
#Sharreadathon #chunksterChallenge2025 #chunkster #SeriesLove2025 Started this one today. I‘m kind of ahead of myself because I watched most of the TV series!🤭📺 I remember Sharon‘s insightful posts,I love that this group remembers our Littens ! It is a generous community. ❤️
#MentalHealthMonday planning to avoid the news.big NPR listener , not today.turned on the local classical music station that has no news, just noting its MLK day & featuring some well known & lesser known African American composers.Played w/ my cats , some reading.Visited the newest location of the Az Humane Soc. is also bittersweet, I want to take all the cats ,dogs ,& critters home. Inspiring to watch volunteers work to get animals adopted .
quiet #Caturday morning. Got up, made some coffee, back in bed to read a few minutes at least!🥰
#CatsOfLitsy Dusty & Tom Tom , youngest & eldest!
#25Alive #favBk24 Griffin Dunne wrote a really interesting book about a really interesting family. It is one of those books I wish I could read again for the first time.😁I‘m going to cheat a bit , I found it almost to be a 3 way tie ! As for fiction , Liz Moores God Of The Woods & The Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors are excellent!
I loved it.Jacaranda, our main character,is a LA girl from birth, lives a loose existence painting surfboards and hanging at parties w/ the pretty people. It‘s a meandering book but the joy is in Eves observations of this world .The 2nd part takes a turn, Jacaranda has written some things that attract an agent in NY, she goes there to see she can turn it into something sustainable. love/hate relationship w/ NY. &One of her LA pals shows up famous!
#25Alive #memory I lost my dear old man Nacho last year, not getting over it . 😢 #CatsofLitsy
Weird things lurking in my desk drawer. Fascinated by old matchbooks! Some I kept from going there, some found in antique store bins .
#25Alive #BookHaul a mini haul, proud of myself, actually traded some books for these earlier this week . Also works for #SeriesLove2025 the next two Will Trents to read , and if I like “ Falling “ TJ Newman has written 2 more . Are plane disasters considered a series ?
The tagged book was my first read of the year, not the best book on books & reading I‘ve ever read , I did enjoy it . Her specialty is the history OF the book so she went deep on some elements of that I didn‘t get into. Short book & she did have lots of info in the appendix if you wanted to dig deeper, always appreciate that . #SundayFunday
#readyourkindle I‘m enjoying this mess of a book , about half way through. Babitz really wrote about her life generally in fictional form. I do like those sort of loosely written books that were written mostly in the 60s-70s about party people consuming too much of everything. There is a sadness for me now, Eves stories are very LA and my heart is breaking for all the loss from the fires. Unfortunately, more Santa Ana winds Monday -Wednesday 😞😢
an old woman is killed in her apartment & the Romanian housekeeper flees, the police go with the simple answer, Housekeeper did it. The housekeeper dies as she flees & when a neighbor who helped the housekeeper & despised the old lady comes forward to describe the events,Brunetti steps in to Investigate.the old lady was mean, cheap, & played the TV so loud , police were called often. Brunetti has too many suspects & not many answers. #serieslove2025
#25Alive #prosperous one thing that always makes me smile is a Maneki Neko , Japanese lucky cat . I have read right paw up more money , left paw up. , more customers! 🐱
Yes , I think I will try this challenge this year ! I have read #chunksters before, when I read War & Peace I got to the point I had goals of 20 pages every time I picked it up. Did finish it , did love it. Admittedly, failed on some of them too. The titles that come to mind , A Little Life and the third in The Outlander series, Voyager.
Thanks to @Amiable for hosting!
Is there a chunkster lurking on your TBR?
Mom was sentimental about her shorthand book . A different world . She graduated from a prestigious business college that no longer exists. She could also type 125 words a minute on a manual typewriter!
Here we come #SeriesLove2025 still have many books to go in these 2 series. Also plan to work on Victoria Thompson‘s Gaslamp mystery series. Next book up Murder on Lenox Hill. Think my library has that one as an ebook!
