Was reading this for a book club I have later today and oof I do not like it at all.
Was reading this for a book club I have later today and oof I do not like it at all.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the illustrations, the story, the message. But I‘m very much annoyed by the way it was written.
Fox 8 writes a letter to us humans and asks us to be nicer to nature and it‘s animals. But he is not very good at spelling (he is a fox after all), so it is written like he hears the words. i also felt at times that he was „too cool“ in his way of speaking. It might be the translation though.
3/5⭐️
New books!
If only you could by reading time too🙈 but these should be quick reads!😍
This rating is probably more a reflection on my state of mind than this novella, but I guess I just wasn‘t ready for a story told by a fox. The fox has learned human by reading on the lips, so the writing is full of mistakes.
I guess this is what can happen when you borrow a book from the library and don‘t know anything about the story.
6th book finished for #AwesomeAugust

What does the fox say? 🦊 ‘If you want your stories to end happy, try being nicer.‘
A short novella narrated by a fox that broke my heart. We humans are awful!

Went whimsical with this George Saunders story while making quiche for tonight‘s dinner. It‘s going to be nearly 100 degrees here today, so I baked early in the day.
The story combines a fox‘s perspective on human activity with some morality lessons. All in a unique linguistic patois that‘s vintage Saunders.

With echos of Watership Down, this is a fox‘s letter to humanity.
It‘s very short with lovely illustrations in black and red. I appreciate Saunder‘s voice and ability to convey big messages in tiny books. 🦊💛
This was my 3rd for #bookspinbonanza in May 😁
Gorgeous bookmark courtesy of @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 💛
In which George Saunders takes a dig at Charles Dickens. Not cool!
To all the mom‘s out there: #HappyMothersDay! I hope you get to read to you heart‘s content. 💖📖💖
A sweet short story about a dreamy fox. He has learned how to speak and write the “yuman” language. He spells everything phonetically. He encounters both kindness and cruelty in the book. #readathon
If you haven‘t read this short story, do yourself a favor and do so! It‘s lovely! ❤️🦊

Thank you for this great book @BarbaraBB ! I spent some time volunteering in wildlife rescue in North Carolina. We were rescuing them both from human encroachment and the occasional hurricane. There was and is a lot of human encroachment in Raleigh-Durham, so I found this book especially touching. 🙏🏻😊🦊😘 A great start to my birthday! 🥳🎂

I had a great reading week because I was on vacation and had a lot of time to read. Fox 8, A Woman is no Man and Salvation of a Saint were all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️-reads for me. Now back to the challenges 😉
I loved this wonderful short fable about a fox losing his innocence thanks to us, ‘Yumans‘.
#ATY2020 A book that can be read in a day.

“If you want your stories to end happy, try being nicer.”
Delightful story of a fox experiencing the kind and mean humans. Fox 8 is all about kindness to others. I loved it.
Moving on to this short story. My cousin Camille sent me this one. 🌻
Since I don‘t plan on finishing any other books by Wednesday, I think it‘s time to post my Goodreads stats! I read ten more books this year than I did last year and read more pages, but my average pages per book dropped by about 35 pages. (Part 1 of 2)

No one writes a better short story than George Saunders—his stories are sometimes shocking, sometimes profound, sometimes utterly ridiculous, always thought-provoking, & always full of wit, compassion, & humanity. In this fable about a fox who tries to save his pack from the construction of a mall & devastation of their habitat, Saunders looks at the intersection of man & nature from nature‘s POV—& what nature sees isn‘t so great. 💔Recommended.
It‘s an afternoon of chores and reading—there are definitely worse ways to spend a cold and rainy December 1st! It‘s a George Saunders short story for my next book. It‘s only 49 pages so I expect this will be a quick read.
Had this on my radar for #readharder2019 but had no idea it was so wee!
This beautiful story goes straight to the heart. The art is simple but amazing and fits the text. A perfect autumn read with an important message.
I returned 2 books to the library unread because I am feeling overwhelmed by how many books I am reading currently. So what did I do?? Picked up 3 books!! At least 2 of these should be a fast read. I need to retire do I can get caught up on my TBR.
Quick read at the library this afternoon.
Narrated by a fox who has taught himself the human language by listening to a human read bedtime stories to her children, the voice is endearing and funny. This creative short story conveys a plea for us human to be nicer and show greater kindness. An earnest and hopeful story with simple and sparse illustrations.

1 book finished (total 2/8) Fox 8 & some picture bks.
A letter to the Yumans, asking them to ‘be niser‘, from Fox 8 who learnt to speak Yuman by listening to bedtime stories thro an open window.
It‘s beautifully done, not what I was expecting - a tiny book, funny, sweet, dark & no happy endings. It‘s made me want to read more by George Saunders - he has an interesting take on the world.
Reading on the seawall would be lovely if it wasn‘t so windy. I‘m still finding sand in places sand shouldn‘t be!
Fox 8 on “Yumans”:
”I woslike: ‘Why did the Curator do it so rong, making the groop with the gratest skils the meenest?‘”
At first glance, I thought this would be a quick, funny listen while prepping my TBR jar.
Instead, I found a humorous yet heartbreaking story, told from the POV of a fox who learned to speak “Yuman”, and has used this skill to seek an “eksplanashun” as to why people are so mean to his pack. “Danjer” arrives in the form of construction and evil people, which quickly turn Fox 8 from a day-dreamer filled with curiosity to a fearful and quaking Fox.
A fox learned to speak human and writes us a letter to let us know what destructive dicks we are.... 🦊 what does the fox say? A lot...❤️
I read this little book today, and although it's short, it definitely packs a punch. I picked it to fulfill a prompt, and I'm definitely glad I did. #BookRiotReadHarderChallenge2019: a book in which an animal or inanimate object is a point-of-view character
I found this book in my library‘s NEW section. I was looking for a quick read while waiting for me book subscription. The book began comical by the end I was touched and in the end sad. I think it is a great commentary.
YASS March was a significant improvement on Feb! Found my five star zone twice, stayed on track with #readharder2019 , read some quality work related reads, #indiebuddyreads was back on track after my disagreeable relationship with our Feb picks, and Tournament of Books delivered some lols. Fox 8, and The Arsonist were stars.
Oh George Saunders I love you so. This tiny book packs an emotional punch. He always manages to make me laugh and then surprises me with a somber nugget of truth. This little parable tells of the impact humans have on the environment and reminds us that it matters how we treat our fellow creatures on the planet.
#readharder #animalpointofview
One got cut off, but all ten of my reads so far this year have been picks. 😄 I wonder how much longer the streak will last. 🤔
Fox 8 is a modern fable told from the perspective of an endearing fox. Without moralizing, this short story (in a small book) makes us think about our environment, politics, immigration and how we treat each other. Humorous and bittersweet, I recommend ‘Fox 8‘ in book format in order to see the lovely illustrations and the sweet way words are spelled. 🦊 ❤️
Fox 8 is truly, a story of our time, and Saunders is at his absolute finest here. Fox 8 is a fable of the cruelty of humankind. In it, we are exceptional, creative, and powerful. But we are also, egotistic, selfish, unthinking, and cruel. It is a timely reminder that we are not all that inhabit this earth. Saunders writes with both humour and tenderness, constructing a story that is as confronting as it is entertaining.
A book with pictures is about all I have energy for this week. I‘m going to savor this one.
My #februarywrapup!
I'm not crying, you're crying!
What a perfect little story!! Fox 8 is adorable and hilarious. The story is sad and funny and happy all in 48 pages. Loved this! 🦊 #readharderchallenge #animalaspointofviewcharacter
Oh em gee. This “book” is adorable and hilarious so far. “At which point he took a paws to lik his but. Wile I polite lee wated.”
Bunch of holds came in so here is today‘s #libraryhaul. Going to read Fox 8 today for #readharderchallenge. And I think start Parkland after that.
