My husband and I have been listening to S•Town while on vacation and we‘re almost finished!! I‘m hanging on every word😮

This is my first crime podcast. (At least, I think it is a crime podcast?) Anyway, can y‘all recommend more like this one??

bookladyreads I listen to Sword and Scale. But it's so good and creepy that I can only listen to it at work and there are times (like the last 6 months) where a story freaked me out so deeply that I had to take a months long break from listening. But it is a very well done podcast. However not for the faint at heart. 5y
bookladyreads Oh. Another good one is The Vanished podcast and The Clearing. 5y
intothehallofbooks @bookladyreads These look great!! Thank you so much!! 😊 5y
TheBookStacker I quite enjoyed Up and Vanished (season 1 only) and Atlanta Monster. I also recommend Serial (season 1), To Live and Die In LA, The Teachers Pet, basically all of Someone Knows Something, and In The Dark. All I do is listen to podcasts or audiobooks while I‘m at work so I have tons of recs! 5y

I'm looking for recommendations for good bookish podcasts. Which ones do you love?

Susanita I especially love Anne Bogel's What Should I Read Next, Bookriot's Read or Dead, and the Reading Women podcast. 5y
Bookwormjillk Love both of Anne Bogel‘s podcasts 5y
DimeryRene ALL THE BOOK RIOT ONES. 5y
See All 10 Comments
Airykah13 I‘m just starting out but so far I‘ve enjoyed Overdue, Reading Glasses, and Get Booked. The ones on my list that I haven‘t tried yet are All the Books, The Librarian Is In, Literary Disco, WhAt Should I Read Next, Read or Dead, Annotated, and By the Book (edited) 5y
rather_be_reading The podcast at Bookriot. So good! I just found Anne Bogel's also, it is pretty good. 5y
Traci1 @Susanita @Bookwormjillk @DimeryRene @Airykah13 @rather_be_reading Thank you all. I'm making my list and will be looking all of these up. 😊 5y
andrew61 Some i listen to include ;'Literary friction', ' you're booked', ' book off', of course 'reading envy', and on bbc radio 4 'open book' and 'good reads' and if you like cosy old fashioned books 'tea or books ' - im a bit addicted to book podcasts although as i listen in the car it's difficult to jot down recommendations. 5y
TieDyeDude Annotated, Allusionist, Selected Shorts 5y
jmtrivera Not to shamelessly plug, but if you're into book clubs, you could try our @EclecticReaders podcast! We always have a book of the month we discuss, along with a more general bookish topic, and our current reads. Eclecticreaders.fireside.fm. 5y
Redwritinghood ‘All the Books‘ is good. 5y

Hey Litsy fam, I know a lot of you listen to podcasts and I‘m looking for recommendations. I started listening to podcasts while I work but I‘m going through them pretty quickly. What should I start listening to? Both bookish and non-bookish suggestions are welcome.

So far, I listened to s1 of Serial and I‘ve started Lore. I‘m aware of Night Vale and I‘m familiar with all the CBC ones.

Maike The Adventure Zone is so great! If you want bookish ones you should check out the book riot podcasts 6y
brittanyreads Hey YA- for YA recommendations. Lizard People- for funny conspiracies. Mile Higher- for true crime 6y
Amie My favorite bookish podcast is "Overdue." If you have any interest in Hollywood history, "You Must Remember This" is good. 6y
Reggie The Moth Podcast, This American Life, Rough Translation 6y
Augustdana I listen on my way to work. I like reading glasses (bookish) getting curious (Jonathan from queer eye) unladylike (feminist) and nobody cares except for me (I just love the host Anne T Donahue) 6y

Has anyone listened to this podcast? I'm trying to get back into YA, so I'm thinking I might check it out.

Elisa Not yet, but I plan on checking it out! Thanks for posting it 🙂 6y
Elisa One recent YA release I liked is To Kill A Kingdom. People are calling it a retelling, but as someone who dislikes retellings, I don‘t think that‘s a good description, it‘s more loosely-inspired by The Little Mermaid, but dramatically different, and much, much darker. The world building was very good. 6y
kamoorephoto I love it!! 6y

I do my work's podcast. Been editing for 2.5 hours. No where near done. Siiiigh. The producer (also me) had some audio problems with some segments when recording so mashing these together has been....great

Binge-listened to MAKING Obama by WBEZ Chicago, which was part tribute to Chicago, part nostalgia trip to a political success story that was actually likable. A bit more critical analysis on WHAT his early politics was would have been nice, but in the end it was supposed to be a story of HOW it was. Alright.

The flu part two- listened to By The Book Podcast during middle of the night moments when my daughters cough was rough. We both love this podcast! And last night she took a turn for the better and slept for a solid four hours cough and fever free! This is a great different kind of bookish podcast!!!

My favourite #palatecleanser is to listen to one or two book podcasts in between audiobooks. I'm so glad that The Readers just released a new episode. 😊

CAGirlReading Me too! I was so excited to see a new episode was released!😄 7y
shawnmooney I love to listen to this and other book podcasts when I'm walking home from work at night, and I can't imagine listening to them in any other situation. How rigid is that? Especially since there are no evening walks home in my schedule for several more days… 7y
Lindy @shawnmooney It gives you several days of pleasant anticipation, in that case. 😎 7y

What are your favorite Literary Podcasts? I'm liking the Book Riot ones, but wondering what else I should try.

Tanner Overdue podcast is hilarious, and I love that it's hosted by two regular guys who like books but aren't overly scholarly about them. It's my favourite podcast next to the BookRiot ones. 7y
Brenley I LOVE Selected Shorts. I didn't get into short stories until my last year of college, but that podcast has added so many good ones to go back to. 7y
awishman What Should I Read Next? Is good. 7y
See All 18 Comments
awishman Also Just the Right Book, Professional Book Nerds, Well-Read Podcast, Reading Women, Adventures in YA. I'm a podcast junkie. I could recommend more if you like Star Wars books! 😉 7y
ReadingEnvy I host the Reading Envy podcast so I like that one haha but I also like The Readers, Literary Disco, KCRW Bookworm (author interviews), Sword and Laser (sci-fi fantasy book club with huge following), The Librarian is In, Science Fiction Book Review Podcast, Smart Bitches Trashy Podcast (to learn more about romance), Backlisted, Guardian Books, Man Booker Prize (six episodes a year only around award season), LitWit..... 7y
JoeStalksBeck Entitled Opinions out of Stanford University. It's simply amazing 7y
christineandbooks I second What Should I Read Next? and I'd add From the Front Porch. 7y
Bloomingjen I like the @ReadingEnvy podcast so there's an independent vote. Of those I listen to regularly, most have already been listed. Fresh Air isn't a book podcast but Terry Gross, ya know? 7y
Prairiegirl_reading Other than the book riot ones I regularly listen to what should read next and the librarian is in from New York public library. 7y
LeslieO I love The Readers. 7y
beagle.mama I enjoy What Should I Read Next as well. 7y
Jillsandypants I like Literary Disco and MashReads, in addition to many of those listed above. 7y
Thedrunkstrawberry I 2nd the librarian is in! The New York Times book review is one I enjoy. And while not a strictly book podcast, Radio West often has interesting interviews with authors. (Author of Ghostland was on, he's had Mary Roach) My to-read list has grown much larger after finding that podcast. (edited) 7y
Demanda I love Well Read and Reading Women 7y
Zelma The now-defunct Books on the Nightstand was a favorite. Now I listen to Literary Disco and So Many Damn Books. The latter is fun for anyone who follows the Morning News' Tournament of Books; they talk about it quite a bit. 7y
Beckys_Books I just added way too many podcasts to my playlist. 7y
Bookboss The Readers, Sword and Laser, Well Read, BBC Books and Authors, NYT Book Review are some of my favorites along with the dearly departed BOTNS. I just started Bookish Blether, and I quite like it. 7y
Samantha.1020 I just added so many podcasts to my subscriptions as we 7y

With my new-found time (or new-found unemployment) I thought I would try to get into some podcasts. The only one I've ever listened to was the first Serial podcast so I'm looking for recommendations. Bookish ones, non-bookish, Australian, non-Australian etc. Suggestions please.

Marchpane Leigh Sales and Annabel Crabb have one called Chat 10 Looks 3. They talk about books, TV shows, cooking, it's just the two of them having a yarn really but it's great. 7y
Marchpane For bookish ones my current favourites are Reading Envy and Backlisted but there are tons of others. Depends if you like the more professionally produced ones (author interviews etc) or the casual chatty ones. 7y
RobinW Book Riot's "All the Books" and another good one focusing on U.S. history is " Ben Franklin's World" 7y
See All 17 Comments
RobinW The ' New York Public Library' has a good bookish one too. 7y
Joanne1 @Marchpane ah I think I have listened to a couple of those ones now you mention it. 7y
becausetrains @BookishFeminist can recommend more about diversity, but "Historically Black" is a great look at Black American racial identity. 7y
BookishFeminist I also LOVE Lore, Black Tapes, and Welcome to Nightvale. Fresh Air and On Being do great interviews. Hidden Brain and Invisibilia are great ones for learning and science/cultural things. Podcasts rock! 7y
megt Seconding Lore and the Black Tapes! I also really enjoyed Limetown. 7y
Dragon Book Riot All The Books and Get Booked are fun and very bookish 🐉I also like The British History Podcast 7y
purple_takkies Fresh Air, This American Life, BBC The Documentary 7y
Michelle_mck Oh no about the job. For podcast I like all of the above plus @thereadingwomen is fabulous 7y
Michelle_mck If you like true crime I listen to lots of those I can suggest of you like that 7y
mischa Code Switch; Girl Friday; Eclectic Readers bookclub; Reading Women; Book Thingo: Drunk Booksellers; Again With This: Beverly Hills 90210; The Friend Zone; Pop Culture Happy Hour. I ... I may have a podcast problem. 😏 7y
prowlix I really love Stuff You Missed in History Class if you want history. They focus a lot on diversity and people/topics that don't get equal time in history books 7y
BookBabe I love All the Books, with our very own @Liberty and @rebeccaschinsky . I also know several great tech podcasts if that interests you. 7y
Amandajoy Gastropod if you like food & history. What Should I Read Next for a bookish listen. Welcome to Night Vale or anything by Night Vale presents for story telling. 7y
UwannaPublishme My faves are All the Books, What Should I Read Next, NYT The Book Review and Eclectic Readers Book Club. If you're a Trek or theater geek, you'll love: Engage: The Official Star Trek podcast and Theater People. 🤓👍🏻 7y

And more. Dear Book Nerd was cutoff from @Faibka picture. They are no longer doing new episodes of this @bookriot podcast, but the archives are still available (ditto You Wrote the Book, which is @SavidgeReads from The Readers. The LitUp show has some excellent author interviews @Faibka #podcasts

Faibka Oh I love The Readers, they always crack me up but so many others I've never hear before, my podcast list is going to explode! So excited 💕 7y
8little_paws I listened to one episode of Lit Up and the sound quality was so awful I couldn't finish it. Is the quality of the audio usually lower quality? I really struggle with podcasts with poor sound. 7y
Lola @8little_paws It's usually one of the best in terms of technical quality. Based on the authors the host gets, I think it has a pretty high production budget. Try again-hopefully the one you heard was just a one-off in terms of poor sound. 7y
8little_paws @lola I just checked it out again after reading your comment and it sounded just fine. Maybe I am mixing it up with a different podcast! 7y

Really behind the times, but just started the serial podcast series. I can't find it on litsy, but I guess it's not actually a book! Very good so far, and nice to listen to something while doing stuff around the house. Have anyone else listened to this? Or have any similar recommendations?

k.reads If you like that, try the podcast Criminal. They have a different story about crime/criminals each episode. Some are about murders, but some are about other types of non-violent crime. The most recent one was about a crime newspaper. 7y
Kitta @k.reads A friend on Facebook just recommended Criminal! I'm going to start it once I'm done with Serial. It sounds great. I love crime stories. 7y
Eliza-beta Serial season one is amazing! You can skip season two 7y

in between audio books I catch up with @Liberty and @rebeccaschinsky and increase the length of my TBR 🤓(book selection in no way reflects the quality of the hosts 😮)

Suzze Yes. I love to listen to it. I have 2 iPads. While I'm listening to the podcast on one, I have the other on my lap with the Goodreads app open. 7y
auntie_jenn @Suzze so smart! i usually listen while i'm driving, so the. i have to go back to the show notes 📝 7y
