This was soooo long. Too long. The history was interesting but the story became overly complicated. I had a really hard time keeping track of all the characters; partly due to how many characters there were but also partly because I listened to this. I think it would have been easier for me if I had been able to see all the names. A soft pick but I cannot imagine reading the next two books.

I'm in the Languedoc region of southern France

There is a lot of history to digest in this book, but it‘s a pick for me. I‘m not sure if it was slow because I had family visiting while reading or if it was the book because you do need to focus so you don‘t miss any of the details. I loved the connection between Alice and Alais. The mystery was good too. I guessed incorrectly who Audric was, but felt more satisfied with who was revealed. I also enjoyed learning about a history I didn‘t know.
I did a #bookcrawl yesterday, visiting 11 bookstores in the Charlotte area in 9 hours. It was exhausting, but I was up for the challenge! 15 books later, I‘m a very happy girl. I‘m 90% sure I didn‘t buy anything I already own 🤣 such a fun day, and the last store I shopped at gave me $11 off for visiting every store!
Starting something new...a bit meatier than what I've been reading. We'll see if I can keep up with it
I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.
This is day 188

I have wanted to come to Carcassonne since I first read the tagged book. So glad I finally made it !
My son Leo loves choosing books for me to read off my shelves. His expression kinda sums up how I‘m coping with the summer holidays!!! 😬#ayupaugust #crymeariver
Library had three books for $1.00. How could I resist?📚😍
In 1209 a girl was given a mystery book by her father, claiming the secret of true grail.
In 2005, Alice Turner discovers two skeletons in a forgotten cave. Realizing she disturbed something that was meant to remain hidden.
I found this to be a good read, really enjoyed it
Read Labyrinth years ago - need to catch up with the next few by Kate Mosse
1/5⭐ Sad I didn't enjoy b/c the hardbacks are so pretty. Many 1D POVs w/ no apparent purpose. Info overload w/o knowing what matters. Many long-winded passages. E.g.:
Alais: *dramatically insists on speaking w/ her father*
Father: What's wrong?
A: *silence*
F: Are you hurt?
A: ...
F: Do you need help?
A: ...
F: I can't help if you don't talk.
A: ...
If a scene drags at 1.8 audio speed, something's wrong w/ the pacing. #projectTBR #projectnew
My book matches my wine. Meant to be.
I didn‘t enjoy this book at all but I don‘t want to write a long thing about how awful it was - it really didn‘t suit me at all, but I don‘t think that makes it a terrible book just not what I wanted it to be. I normally love books like this (I unashamedly loved The Da Vinci Code and I adore The Name Of The Rose) but something didn‘t click with this one at all. Glad I finished it but probably won‘t read the sequel unless it‘s very cheap
Really struggling to get on with this one... I never bail on books but I‘m frustrated by how unrealistic I find all the characters and how dry all the historical detail is. I‘ve been so unenthusiastic about reading it I just haven‘t been listening to audiobooks at all. Turned speed up to 3x so I can speed through and see if it gets better
My mum loves this book so much so I‘m excited to read something she recommended so highly!
1. I find Europe of the 1700s and 1800s fascinating.
2. South France 🇫🇷
3. Labyrinth by Kate Mosse

Over halfway through. Finding it a bit sluggish though. The history elements are interesting, but I‘m pushing through hoping that the storyline picks up or I may just abandon this one.
Hey @TricksyTails! I just need another Bowie image on my Litsy feed. Jareth may be a problematic rat bastard, but he was my first crush, and as you so rightly pointed out, #ratbastardsneedlovetoo! Congrats on your milestone!!
Sorry. I just couldn't. I think I'm just burnt out on medieval secret religious societies after finishing In the Name of the Rose this summer.
Taking a leave out of @Cathythoughts book - late #MorningGlory. Coffee, Cat and Kate (wish her name started with C too.)

After some serious #audioadd, I finally decided. Good thing too, I needed company for some serious #audiocleaning and #audiowalking
Need to leave in 10 minutes if I want to catch the bus to fetch my daughter from school. So I put my book down. Didn't notice the cat that immediately snuck onto my lap. And now?
Chapter 6 and now I get to the part where I want to continue reading. It was a slow start for me.

Just some #ItsSoLateItsEarlyreading because I have a migraine. That makes sense, totally.
Great book, already moved onto the second in the series. And take a look at my #KoboStats #readingstats - pretty proud of that!
Well, either I'm going as a French forest with tall trees, wild boar and lynx, or I'll be a French quarry worker with the usual pale skin. That last bit doesn't make sense, even in the early 13th century working outside would get you a tan; probably constant tan/leathery skin.
Hmm? Will go with the forest then. 😀

Bought this in April 2008 (probably from my birthday voucher) and it's moved around my flat since then. Guess it's high time I give it a go.

As hubby seems to be working every hour at the moment it's me today!
I love these books by Kate Mosse, really good historical fiction!
Thrown in a bit of Jareth for good measure 😀
Starting my new book journal today! I've filled three over the past couple of years, and I'm incredibly excited to start this one. I'm also very happy that my first entry will be A Court of Thorns and Roses 🖤❤️
Day 7 of #RFABJuly17 is books and chocolate!
.
.
✨This theme was difficult. I typically don't eat chocolate so I found these little caramel kisses in my candy dish and tried to match accordingly. They are one of my favorite kinds of chocolate next to Reese's -- what's your favorite chocolate treat?
Love Love Love! I'm a sucker for medieval historical fiction, so throw some fabulous fantasy in and I'm in my element. Superbly composed, with clear credible characters, a wonderfully intricate plotline with stunning scenery and its a winner. I'd give it 6 stars!

@AJBowers You outdid yourself!!! These books are all perfect! And I can't wait to read them. Husband already has called dibs on the Erik Larson book and I said he could read it first since my tbr is high! You stalked me so well and I ❤️❤️❤️ the owls and Heidi Swapp pad!! The owl on the bookmark is like Gylfie from Gahoole!! I love her! Oh true love!! Thank you! (Now off to work...😔)
It took me a minute to find a book on my shelf that started with the first letter of my name that I've been wanting to read a long time... This has been sitting on my shelf forever and I've been wanting to read it for probably just as long... I initially put it off cause the series wasn't complete when I got this book... and then I put it off because each book is so long! Maybe this will be read this year, we'll see! #funfridayphoto
