I don‘t really remember it, but I‘m sure my parents read to me when I was very young. What I do remember is that my third grade teacher read the tagged book to the class in the afternoon. Not sure that a bunch of eight-year-old kids got much out of it, though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #sundayfunday

My husband has mentioned this book from time to time - someone handed it to him when he was in his early teens, and he says it was his first introduction to the idea of transcendence. So, I found him a copy for his birthday. While it didn't hit quite the same as it did when he was 13, he still enjoyed the nostalgia trip. He's also had “Seagull is to flying as I am to ______“ written on our chalkboard ever since - trying to figure out what makes ⬇

I was just young enough in the 70‘s that I never read it but now…❤️❤️❤️

My daddy would have been 70 years old today. I have been missing him more now that I have moved up north. I wish I could pick his brain re: snow, ice, winter, um... wish we can bitch/watch the Packers together. If he were around, he would understand my frustration with the amount of bullshit I deal with daily! People can be ugh! Miss you! Forever, I am your daddy's little girl.

ReReading this book in his memory.

This parable about a seagull who follows his passion was the bestselling book in the U.S. for 1972 and 1973. It gets a lot of love even still and I broadly sympathize with its message(s), so *respect* to those who have found it inspiring. But it lost me when the birds started teleporting. Still, it's very short and mostly pictures, so check it out for yourself.

It was one of my favorite books as a child. I now have my own copy, at last.

This was a bit odd. Lots of philosophical stuff that I‘m not that interested in. It was a very fast read, as it‘s less than 100 pages, and many of the pages are photographs of seagulls flying.

This is a wonderful little book! Why didn't I get to read it when I was little? Most of my friends criticize its simplicity and obviousness, but I think it's perfectly OK when children's book presents its ideas clearly. And those ideas aren't childish at all. I was a young adult and in my decidedly hippie phase of actual tree-hugging, but well before any altering herb usage. The desire to fly and make my own path was STRAINING my psyche. This book (this actual physical book) took me through those days and influenced me to move away from my hometown to go to school up north (Denton, TX) and never look back.

Although, begrudgingly, I love this song - especially the 12 inch version (remember those!?) the intro is brilliant.

Loved the moral of the story presented in this book. It's an easy short read!

The seagull came back today. Or maybe it‘s a different one.

I was reading the other afternoon and heard tapping on our window, 31 floors up. I looked over to see this.

You can read it as a story or read it as a metaphorical book. Each chapter is a new perspective on life. The first part is about doing what you want to do instead of following the crowd. The second part is about shattering our limiting beliefs and transcending them. The third part is about sharing your lessons with others and uplifting them as well. The fourth part is a satire on present day religious practices. Overall a short fascinating story.

Spiritual, motivating & self help..

Easy read, straightforward about life. Seagulls as the epiphany of life itself. The perseverance and hard work are the key to a better livelihood .

I read this #novella when I was eleven and I loved it. As I recall it is basically about a seagull messiah and most likely deeper than my preteen mind grasped. I have my great grandmother's copy somewhere but after an hour searching I couldn't find it. So back to Google images 🤦🏼🤷🏼🙈🙊

It is the book one should read it over and over as it has different meaning every time you read it.

I finished this lovely book, for the second time, and it is as brilliant a fable as it was the first time. This is the 1973 edition my husband, or more likely his parents, bought for 13 Kroner in Norway. I feel fortunate my husband introduced this author to me when we first married. I have enjoyed every Bach book I‘ve read.

He spoke of very simple things—that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form....”The only true law is that which leads to freedom,” Jonathan said. “There is no other.”

“The place for a seagull at night is on shore, and from this moment forth he vowed, he would be a normal gull. It would make everyone happier.” I love this fable about an individual trying to be more than the expectation of his peers. Sometimes, giving in makes everyone else happier but robs the individual of what makes him/her happy. This is a re-read from my 20s and I loved it then and so far I love it now.

Currently reading this. Kinda boring at times. I don't really really like seagulls all that much nor care about their speed of flight.

I had three people recommend this to me before I got around to reading it. Maybe other people are fans, but it's a definite #CantEven for me. I absolutely did not like this book. #JuneBookBugs
