I continue to make my way through the Anne of Green Gables books 💚
This one was new to me.
This book comes up as book 4 in my Kindle collection, but I'm seeing that, according to Anne's age, Anne of Windy Poplars should have been next (??)
Either way, this was delightful, and I am sure to enjoy all of the books no matter which order I read them in.
We‘re headed back to Orilium and Veta Mae has some big decisions to make.
She‘s thinking of changing her Calling and hoping to make a new friend or 2.

“Our library isn‘t very expensive. But every book in it is a friend.” I absolutely loved seeing Anne become a wife and mother in this book. The first half of this book made my heart sore and sometimes cry. I will admit, about half way through the story I feel like Anne became an observer as apposed to the main character. It‘s still a great book though and I dearly love relate to a the newly wed wife and the dreams of her home.
I adore this one because it reminds me of the first book with its intense emotions. This is the adult version of little Anne‘s melodrama. This book has the most idyllic romances, the strongest friendships, and the most joy, the most tragedy, desperation and sadness, the eeriest scenes… but after that roller coaster this chapter ends sweetly.
Jane was not brilliant, and had probably never made a remark worth listening to in her life; but she never said anything that would hurt anyone‘s feelings—which may be a negative talent but is likewise a rare and enviable one. #rereadingsummer
I didn't love this one. The sad thing that happens isn't dwelt on long enough (I know, I know, it's a children's book) and the dated language of the Dick Moore storyline made me uncomfortable.
On my first read of the series 10+ years ago, book 4 (Anne of Windy Poplars) was my favorite. Now, I think book 5 may be it! Anne‘s House of Dreams is full of whimsy like her other books, with laughter, heartache and lots of great characters. I do wish we got more of the story from Anne‘s POV but I‘m really enjoying this reread. Better late than never to the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead !! 5⭐️

I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting Anne‘s newlywed life in Four Winds. I love the new characters Montgomery introduces—Leslie Moore & Captain Jim are up there with Marilla & Matthew on my list of favorite AoGG characters. More than the other Anne books, this is the one I want to step into: evenings of Captain Jim‘s stories at the lighthouse, rambling along the rock shore, and having a heart to heart with Leslie in the garden. #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
Just barely a pick for this one.
I loved the beginning where we get an update on what have happened with characters from previous books due to Anne‘s wedding. And it went a little down hill after that for me. I can‘t really explain why. I think part of it is that I thought there would be more Gilbert now that they‘re married, but no. I liked the new characters and how Anne always seems to make friends wherever she goes

4a. What will stay with you from this reading of Anne‘s House of Dreams?
4b. What are your favorite or most memorable scenes and themes from this book?
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
And—something I keep meaning to post: please let me know if you‘d like to be taken off the tag list! No worries if you‘re quietly following along, but I don‘t want to keep tagging people that don‘t want to be tagged. 😊
3a. In this book, we get a much closer look at Anne and Gilbert as a couple (and we finally get more of Gilbert!). What did you think of how their relationship is portrayed? What did you think of how Gilbert is portrayed?
3b. How did you feel about the way Montgomery handles Anne‘s pregnancies, with little allusions like “Anne‘s dear hope for the spring”, etc.? Did you find it quaint, annoying, forced?
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
2a. New characters! What did you think of the cast of characters we meet in Four Winds: Miss Cornelia, Captain Jim, Leslie, Owen, Susan Baker? Who are your favorites?
2b. Anne‘s friendship with Leslie has a much different tone than her girlhood or college friendships. What do you think of their friendship? What makes it different from Anne‘s friendships with Diana; Priscilla, Phil, and Stella; or even Katherine Brooke?
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead discussion time!
1a. What do you think of this book compared to the other books in the series so far?
1b. House of Dreams returns to a more traditional narrative, with more of a plot than we‘ve seen in the other books. How did you like the shift in writing style? What does it add (or take away) from the story for you?

March is just flying by, and we're almost done with our chapter-a-day of Anne's House of Dreams! (Which I have just LOVED re-reading!!) The wrap-up discussion will be on Saturday the 27th. I'll post discussion questions mid-morning (Pacific Time), but feel free to jump in and chat whenever you can. Then it's on to Anne of Ingleside on the 28th! Who's still reading along? #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
One day I just had to finish it - loved this one so much - I laughed and I cried. Loved Captain Jim and the race of Joseph...

Anne and Gilbert move into their house of dreams to start their life together. Despite some silly inclusions (including ludicrous gymnastics to avoid using the word “pregnant” or any synonym), I think this is the best book of the Anne series so far. It keeps its focus on a few characters, allowing the reader to get to know those people more deeply.

One morning, when a windy golden sunrise was billowing over the gulf in waves of light, a certain weary stork flew over the bar of Four Winds Harbour on his way from the Land of Evening Stars. Under his wing was tucked a sleepy, starry-eyed little creature. The stork was tired, and he looked wistfully about him. He knew he was somewhere near his destination, but he could not yet see it.
(This reminds so much about the scene from Dumbo.)
I came across this absolutely unforgivable typo/misprint over the weekend, in my copy of House of Dreams. I mean, really?!? Anne-with-an-E would be horrified. #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
Part three for Anne's House of Dreams #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead! I've gotten out of the habit of posting very much, but I've really been enjoying my little oasis of a chapter each day. I hope everyone is enjoying Anne's continuing adventures in Four Winds. I do love these characters! I'm looking forward to this week's plot developments, and our discussion in a couple of weeks. 😊
“Well, he thought that since he couldn‘t serve God and Mammon he‘d better stick to Mammon,” said Miss Cornelia crisply. “So he shouldn‘t complain if he doesn‘t find Mammon very good company now.”
I don‘t always like Miss Cornelia, but she certainly has some zingers! 😂 #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
Miss Cornelia, she really is something
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
This has been a bit of a stressful week for me, and my chapter-a-day of Anne has been such a needed oasis. I've been busy enough that I've missed a couple of days...this results in reading TWO chapters the following day, which feels so decadent. Captain Jim, Miss Cornelia, and Leslie Moore are just what I've needed! 💜Here's the next section of the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead schedule--hope you're all enjoying the delightful Four Winds personalities!
It delights me that Anne‘s caller brought her “work” with her! Let‘s make this popular again. Anytime I go to someone‘s house I‘ll bring my knitting or my embroidery. Anyone coming to my house is welcome to do the same! (You know, when we can visit people again. Lots of people took up crafts during lockdown, right? Perfect time to revive crafting during visits!) #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
“He had...a pair of remarkably blue, deep-set eyes, which sometimes twinkled and sometimes dreamed, and sometimes looked out seaward with a wistful quest in them, as of one seeking something precious and lost.”
I got distracted and forgot to post this yesterday: our first meeting with Captain Jim. 💙 I do love Montgomery‘s descriptions! #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
“Dear Miss Shirley,” Miss Patty had written ... “We are sending you the china dogs ... You will not have forgotten that Gog looks to the right and Magog to the left.”
💙💙

I forgot to post this yesterday—I‘ve been curious about the “cotton warp quilts” that Mrs. Lynde is so famous for, and I finally looked it up when it came up again in yesterday‘s chapter. I found these pics of “apple leaf” patterns, as well as a really interesting post about this type of knitting: http://ladynthread.blogspot.com/2010/11/mrs-rachels-cotton-warp-quilts-from.html...

“Anne was always romantic, you know,” said Marilla apologetically.
“Well, married life will most likely cure her of that,” Mrs. Rachel responded comfortingly.
🤣I do love Marilla and Rachel... and these conversations where they shake their heads at her “queer” notions crack me up. You can tell they love her dearly, even as they shake their heads at her... and even as they seem to be completely talking past each other! #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
Time to catch up on the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead!
Which one shall I read: Edwardian Anne or 1940s Anne? 😆😆
It does seem so strange to think of Anne being married. In a way she just seems to me the little girl Mathew brought home here fourteen years ago. I can‘t realize that she‘s grown up. I shall never forget what I felt when I saw Mathew bringing in a girl.
(Another glimpse into the past that I just love)
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead
I remember telling Matthew, that evening when he brought me to Green Gables, that I never expected to be a bride because I was so homely most one would ever want to marry me -unless some foreign missionary did. I had an idea then that foreign missionaries couldn‘t afford to be finicky in the matter of looks if they wanted a girl to risk her life among cannibals. You should have seen the foreign missionary Priscilla married. He was as handsome
The book has finally arrived from the library and I have started my catching up.

Am quite to pleased to be starting on Anne's House of Dreams for the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead, just a day late.
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead starts Anne's House of Dreams tomorrow! Here's the first piece of the chapter-a-day schedule if you're reading along with us daily. And you can mark your calendars for the book-end discussion on March 27. 😊 Just looking over the chapter titles brought back so many memories--I'm looking forward to re-acquainting myself with all these characters!
Nice to see Anne grow & mature, but a bit of a bummer that she also got...boring. Anne Shirley of books 1-4 had so much to her; Anne Blythe is this milquetoast woman playing house & not doing much beyond reacting to ppl around her. Did love the descriptions of Four Winds, beautiful writing that puts you there, & appreciated the smaller cast of new ppl & heavier topics addressed. New Anne is apropos of her time but still a bit of a letdown. 3/5 ⭐️
Leslie Moore stood apart, a tragic appealing figure of thwarted womanhood. Anne resolved that she would win entrance into the kingdom of that lonely soul & find there the comradeship it could so richly give, were it not for the cruel fetters that held it in a prison not of its own making.
“Why do you hate the men so, Miss Bryant?”
“Lord, dearie, I don‘t hate them. They aren‘t worth it. I just sort of despise them...”
I haven‘t been loving this series but I‘m committed to finishing it, and this one does seem to have better reviews from my friends on Goodreads.
My first box checked off for #BoonSpinBingo (besides free spaces haha) Revisiting this one for #HeyCarrots (yes, it was July's book, but y'know) and, as always, I loved every page. Captain Jim can get a little rambly sometimes, but I love him so much that I don't mind. More than most of the books - except Rolls - this one really gets me in the feels as Anne has a lot happening in her life. The whole part of the story with Leslie's husband and ⬇️
🏖 Tagged book. I can‘t remember any other book connected to ocean.
🏖 I spotted around 12 different species of butterflies in my garden 🦋😊 I was able to capture few beauties in my camera.
🏖 I usually listen to flute music in summer. It gives soothing feel. Can‘t think of any song in particular.

I enjoyed reading this book, unlike the 2 previous books. I was excited to read about Anne‘s wedding, & her new life! Beautiful narration of the location & new characters. Interesting & quick read. Lots of love for Leslie & Captain Jim 🥰 4🌟
Better late than never, starting Anne of Ingleside this weekend 🤦🏻♀️ #heycarrots #bookspinbingo #4
What a delight to finally have Anne married and in her little house of dreams. We meet another cast of quirky characters and see the Blythe family grow. Anne is just what my soul needs during this dumpster fire of a year.

A great companion when working in the garden. I liked reading about Anne and Gilbert‘s new adventures. #heycarrots
