“I always roll my eyes when celebrities wail about their privacy being invaded by the media. If you‘re willing to make certain choices and live in a particular way, you can live a mostly normal life. But many stars would go insane without all the attention, so they won‘t do what needs to be done to stay out of the spotlight.”
This book came up as I was looking through autobiographies on audiobook. I am so glad I listened to it. It made me laugh and get teary eyed a couple times. I loved hearing about the Outsiders and the other actors he worked with. He seems like an down to earth kind of guy and a great family man.
Thanks for putting this on my radar @Cinfhen it was such a delight to revisit the eighties and some of my favourite movies and actors. Rob Lowe has such a great voice as well as telling great stories, and I‘m impressed with how he turned his life around. It was just the breath of fresh air I needed! Now I‘m going to go watch The Outsiders again and read “whatever happened to” articles about a whole lot of actors I loved.
For an older book, this one has been popping up on my radar quite a bit so I decided to give it a listen. He‘s a pretty down to earth guy for living such an extraordinary life. I enjoyed it.
I just loved this refreshing, honest, heartwarming memoir by Rob Lowe. As a true #EightiesGirl I enjoyed looking back at some of the most iconic movies & actors from my younger days. Rob Lowe is such a genuine good guy, his charm really comes through. I‘m definitely going to listen to his follow up book. I highly recommend the audio version….If any of my #Pop22 Crew needs a book for #SetInThe80s this memoir would be perfect 🥰
Listening to this fantastic memoir from Rob Lowe. After he references the 1989 Oscar debacle, I had to go watch the opening number on YouTube. I didn‘t think it was that bad…it was funny as hell. I‘m loving this memoir & all the 80‘s nostalgia.
Here‘s the clip in case you want to watch Rob Lowe & Snow White dance, sing & flirt 😂 https://youtu.be/9mronRVvdmw
I wish I could remember who posted this book on their #Top21of21 list / it‘s REALLY GOOD!! Rob Lowe is adorable, self deprecating and super entertaining. Im loving hearing about his early years in Hollywood/ Malibu. #HooplaAudio
4½⭐
This was really quite good…especially if you‘re an 80s child like me. I hate to admit it…but I once had a poster of Rob Lowe on my bedroom wall. Also, I have a question for Rob Lowe; could you quit that TV show you‘re on and just narrate audiobooks from now on? Seriously, the voices he does are fantastic, and he would make such an excellent narrator.
Rob Lowe has had some truly wild stories for a kid from Ohio. Before becoming famous his paths crossed with so many celebrities its mind boggling. The audio is read by Lowe himself and it‘s a fast and interesting read for anyone familiar with Hollywood. His story about an unexpected meeting with Bill Murray made me laugh out loud. His struggle with sobriety and efforts to come to terms with his fame are familiar celebrity themes.

There are a lot of names dropped in this book! Lowe seems to have befriended, bedded or at least had a chance encounter with every American celebrity of the past 40 years. Suppose that is what happens when you are handsome and instantly recognisable. I remember being devastated when my favourite Sam Seaborn left the West Wing and will always be a fan. I probably didn‘t really need to listen to this but it was kind of fun.
Rob Lowe has some crazy stories. He has been behind the scenes of Hollywood since he was a little boy, meeting icons and experiencing future phenomenons even before he became a professional actor as a teen. There is so much I never knew about his early career. He takes you through his life, good and bad, honest about his addiction and getting sober.
He is a great storyteller and even does impressions for all the conversations with other people!
4.5/5 ⭐️ I love Rob Lowe and this just made me love him more! He is so talented and really went after his dreams to become an actor. I enjoyed hearing about The West Wing, if only they would have paid him what he deserved.
Is it me or is Rob Lowe the real Forest Gump?! The way he just casually name drops meeting celebrities prior to them becoming mega celebrities like Liza Minelli, JFK jr, Chris and Sean Penn, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez, SJP and Janet flipping Jackson.
I NEED to debrief this book. It‘s pretty good but the bomb at the end (pun intended), holy moly I just cannot imagine. Book 8 of 2021
Such a great piece of 80's nostalgia and, well, Rob Lowe.

Such a good book. There were a few parts that I was not expecting. I love Rob Lowe.
Audio shovelled yesterday and finished this book. What did I do with my life before audio books 🤷🏻♀️this is okay. RL writes a decent sentence and his stories are interesting and listening to him tell them is a bonus. It‘s a fast and easy listen. He kind of follows a pattern with his story telling and it gets a bit predictable but again, easy to listen to. I did love him when I was younger
Started listening to Rob Lowe driving and walking around today doing some errands and picking some things up. One thing I picked up is this awesome retro Santa who is joining my outside decorations!!! I am so thrilled with this find thx to a local knickknack, second hand store of awesomeness
Because sometimes a girl just needs to spend a few quiet hours with Rob Lowe...
Not just handsome but also #charming when telling his stories of Hollywood life. I loved how he‘d be telling a story in his book and then at the end he‘d drop the name of the super famous person it was about. #MagnificentMarch
This wasn‘t for me. It has some interesting moments (filming The Outsiders), but overall it‘s filled with silly name-dropping, cringe-worthy statements, and the author‘s general lack of recognition of his own privilege. Oh yes, and a general lack of respect for women. No thanks.

I know what you are thinking...”Deb...how do you get a Rob Lowe memoir from yesterday‘s #TopGunAnthem prompt?!”🤔Well, Tom Cruise was the star of Top Gun & Rob Lowe starred with him in The Outsiders 3 years before & hung out with him (& Charlie Sheen & Emilio Estevez) & this is a fun book with some Tom Cruise moments. Plus I don‘t have any Tom Cruise memoirs in my stacks & it‘s 1:30 AM & I can‘t sleep & it‘s all I got...😉
Don‘t mind being stuck at a swim meet all day if I have my books 😊📚🏊🏻♀️🤓
⭐️⭐️⭐️. Listened as an audiobook and the stories kept me entertained while folding laundry. I love the west wing but didn‘t have any particular interest in learning more about rob Lowe going in but he has had some unique experiences and liked the explanation of his choices and in-depth look at what it was like to be a teen actor and then make a career. Dragged a bit but fine for audio since I wasn‘t super focused.
I actually really enjoyed reading Lowe‘s account of his early childhood in Ohio, and then his move to Malibu where he began to pursue his career in earnest. And then...I got a little fan-girlie.
Although I was never a Rob Lowe fan girl, I do find him charming and this memoir proves there is some depth behind those amazing blue eyes.
Another great #CelebrityTellAll got the #monthofmemoirs
Even as a memoirist, he‘s sooooo charming.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook!
I'm not at all surprised that I loved a book by Rob Lowe. He is just as kind and warm as I imagined him to be. This book was filled with an interesting look into Hollywood. I especially enjoyed learning about the "brat pack" and Patrick Swayze! Definitely worth reading or listening to.
My husband reading or as he calls it “looking sexy” for me. #litsyhumor #hubbyreads
This book was really great! I listened to this on audio so I was able to enjoy Rob Lowe reading this to me. He talks openly about his highs and lows. He doesn't tell terrible stories about other people and he doesn't use this book as a way to air his grievances. I grew up watching the rise and sometimes fall of the brat pack and enjoyed the inside look at Rob Lowe's life. He is thoughtful and interesting.
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I was a teenager when The Brat Pack was a thing, so I have been a fan for a long time. Rob Lowe presents real vulnerability in this book, which makes him seem very human. I recommend the audiobook, because the author does pretty killer impersonations of others.
Rob Lowe 😍 Enough said. Haha
This was so fun to listen to. It was interesting to hear about his career and the behind the scenes of the films/shows he‘s done. I also enjoyed the fun name drops in his stories!
I listened to the audiobook of this one after my mom raved about it. It's well written, well narrated, and has an interesting perspective on Hollywood and acting. I liked that Lowe doesn't seem to be aware of how attractive he is, but some of his auditions he talked about as if they were destiny and I found the melodrama of that to be kind of annoying, but overall I liked it.
This is the first audiobook I ever bought from Audible, and I'm finally listening to it for the first time. I've always heard great things about it. Less than 10 minutes in and I'm already swooning!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍Lawd have mercy, I think I'm going to have a perpetual grin on my face while listening to this! #audiobook #swoon 📚❤️🤓❤️📚
#attractiveauthors yup Rob Lowe!! He's soooo DREAMY!! 😍😂😍 #junebookbugs @RealLifeReading
I do love Rob Lowe, and I needed something to listen to while I foam roll this tricky calf, so.
Loved this!!
I was reluctant to try audiobooks for some reason and this was the one that convinced me I could enjoy them. I walk everywhere and listening to audiobooks is great but I can't concentrate on anything too heavy. This book was perfect for that. I had never considered myself a Rob Lowe fan so I am not even sure why I chose it. Just glad I did. #awesomeaudiobooks #marchintoreading
Really enjoyed this audio. I found Rob Lowe to be more aware and reflective than I imagined. If in occasion a bit name droppy - we'll wouldn't you be?!
I finished listening to this earlier this week. It was pretty interesting!
OMG Rob Lowe!! I read this "in his voice" and loved every word. Ya, it was filled with tons of name dropping but you'd expect that from a Hollywood kid. I love him and loved this book.
Love him or hate him, this guy is a master storyteller. Whip smart and likable, Lowe shares his stories with warmth, gratitude and self-deprecating humor. As the narrator of the audio book, his voice is soothing and his diction is perfection. The stories range from early childhood in Dayton, OH to catching the acting bug; to his school days in Malibu with the Sheens and the Penns to his sex tape scandal, alcoholism, marriage and fatherhood. 5 🌟s!
"He [Patrick Swayze] made Tom Cruise look lobotomized." I really can't stop giggling at that.
