Daisy Jones & The Six
Daisy Jones & The Six | Taylor Jenkins Reid
A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of a world-famous 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer--and the secret reasons behind their dramatic break up. Daisy Jones is a beautiful, broken girl growing up in L.A. with rich parents who barely know she exists. . . . But when she sings in a crowded, smoky club, you can hear a pin drop. All she wants is to write her own songs, but the record studio has its own ideas. It's the early 1970s and free love and drugs are everywhere, and Daisy wants to experience it all. Billy Dunne and his brother have a band called The Six that won't be playing weddings for long. They are ambitious, hard-rocking, hard-partying. When they land a record deal, Billy's girlfriend follows them to the west coast and life begins. But she finds out she's pregnant on the eve of their first tour, and the pressure of fatherhood and incipient fame make Billy go a little crazy on the road. Daisy and Billy's paths cross when a manager realizes that the key to skyrocketing success is to put them together. But oil and water don't even begin to describe how they mix. . . . And what happens next will become the stuff of legend. Written in the style of an "as-told-to" rock autobiography, Daisy Jones & The Six is an unforgettable ride.

I think this is one I definitely need to listen to as an audiobook. The format slowed me down, even though I liked the story. Camilla was my favorite character. As a young mom who was in love with the cool guy, her story really hit me. Probably not the intended take away, but we all pick up on our own themes.

I loved #NewYearWhoDis and @4thhouseontheleft had a great list. Reading someone else's favorite books is such a fun way to connect.

I read 6 books and enjoyed them all. My three favorites (gave them all 5🌟) were:
Daisy Jones & The Six
Inheritance
Far From the Tree

In fact, I loved them so much I included all 3 in an article for the magazine I work at (link in comments)! Will definitely be reading more off the list throughout the year.

MeganAnn @monalyisha I own and/or have read: Gideon the Ninth and Circe. Thanks so much for another wonderful #NewYearWhoDis experience and for doing a fun #giveaway! 😘 3d

I liked this book, but I didn‘t love it. The interview format felt like reading a screenplay. This would actually be much better as a movie or TV show so you can hear the music, not just read about it.

LikelyLibrarian This was fabulous on audio. All the characters were voiced by different people. So I think you‘re right; it might play better in a different format. 7d
Beatlefan129 @LikelyLibrarian I think you‘re right, my sister listened to the audio and she LOVED it. I‘m usually not an audiobook person but maybe I should try it 7d

Finished this one today on audio. It is told an as oral history of the dictions 70s rock band Daisy Jones and the Six. I loved that we got to hear from so many characters and in audio it was so great. I felt this book was about love in all its forms, friendship, leadership, the creative process, drug addiction, the fight for sobriety, women‘s rights, and the fun dramatic 70s rock scene. So well done!

j.rye I‘m reading it right now. I have a feeling the audio book is really good! 1w

4.5/5 ⭐️s TJR makes her characters so realistic you end up wondering if they are real! I loved diving into the 70s rock and roll scene. I went back and forth between reading the book and listening to the audiobook; the audio was amazing! Now if only these songs were real and I could listen to them!
Also, anyone else notice the 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo character cameo?

Wowza!! I‘m not sure why I doubted my fellow Littens & #BOTM-ers- you all were right lavishing this one with so much Litsy Love!! I absolutely loved this #BOTY! I‘m amazed at how visual a book told entirely in a documentary/interview-transcript style is! The characters are well-developed & I really didn‘t know where the plot was going! I loved this from start to finish!! It‘s a book about #Heartbreak but remains lot of fun to read! #NewYearNewYou

This was an incredible story. At first I was sceptical about the interview style, but after getting used to it, it works really well. It was fun hearing the different POV from everyone. I loved the drama, the complexities of the characters and seeing the build up and break down of the band. The only true let down for me is the fact that the songs aren't real, because after finishing this book I really want to listen to their album! :)

4/5 stars
This book felt real. I really had the impression I was reading the biography of one of my favourite bands.

I really like how we get to read the point of view of each member of the band. You can feel their emotions throught the words. You get angry and sad for all of them. The fact that the author decided to write the story from the 60's-70's made even more real and interesting.

Ooooohhhh this was soooooo good! Told in a documentary, interview style, I desperately wanted this to be a true story, because it felt so real. I kept trying to google image characters and then remembering it was fiction. The audiobook cast is wonderful, featuring Jennifer Beals, Benjamin Bratt and Judy Greer. All the stars for this gem!

Kristy_K I felt the same way! I even checked to see if it was based on a true story. 4w

Very addictive but not as good as I was expecting. I felt like the characters weren't that fleshed out (except for Daisy, Graham, maybe Karen...) and if I didn't know this was set in the rock n roll paradise decade of the 70s I couldn't have really guessed. Interesting format (this must be a great audiobook!) and I'm looking forward to the TV show because I have a feeling the story will work a lot better onscreen! Good but not great. 3 ⭐

Very good. Interesting characters and concept. Shows how much music can effect you and make you feel connected to the lyrics and what you take away from music as it suggests that we interpret music/lyrics based on our situation at the time. Shows how music can make you think/feel about things that you would rather avoid.

Not necessarily a book I would normally select on my own, but I found it entertaining, compulsively readable, and highly enjoyable. The interview format was great!

What *really* made me love this was Karen. As a fellow “I don‘t think kids are for me” person, I related to her so much and appreciated a character like her who was unapologetic in her decisions (especially for the time). Karen, you are my spirit animal!

I can see why it won so much. I loved the style and how unique it was. I also really appreciated how some parts touched on sensitive topics like women in media, mental health and addiction as some examples. I think that‘s really important.

This compelling story follows the band, The Six, and the untamable Daisy Jones as they rise to the top of the music charts in the 70‘s. Full of drugs, sex and rock and roll, this story has a lot of heart and hope.

Don‘t bother reading it, this story was meant to be listened to. A full cast superbly performs this fantastic audio, and I couldn‘t stop listening. One of my all-time favorite audiobooks.
