“Growing up sucks.” I think that around 4th grade kids actually start thinking about that and having those negative ideas. I think that seeing that in a feminine role and being relatable is super important for kids to not feel so alone and lost.

Ms. Marvel, Willow Wilson, 2016. The lead character lives a double life as a super hero and normal everyday person who works, goes to class ect. She deals with the struggles of balancing her lives, maintaining relationships, bullies, bad guys, all the things that you would expect!
A pick that I kept somewhat unfairly comparing to the Disney+ adaptation, which I loved.
Take this super hero stuff back to New York where it belongs!

My first superhero GN. I liked the art, especially all the funny inserts (cereal box that says GM-Os, for instance), and I liked Bruno. Kamala‘s clash of expectations and stressors is interesting.
But I don‘t think I‘ll continue the series. It‘s just not a good fit for me.
Tenth finish of #SummersEndReadathon puts me at 20.5 hours.

#Hoopla #pop19 #ABookWithSomeoneWithASuperPower While I generally do not appreciate or enjoy comics, I thought Ms. Marvel was well done. Nice illustrations, good characterization, fun plot. Only 3 more prompts left for me!!!

Ms. Marvel is the best! She really deserves her own movie. 😊🦸🏽♀️
(Comic books are underrated as a genre too.)
Not Ashbury Park but it's Jersey. Kamala is from Jersey and proud of it.

1. Strawberries, in season 🍓 Mango a close 2nd
2. Halfway through Storm of Swords
3. Tagged. I don‘t have a fave, but I love this series
4. Hopefully where I am now, as I‘m quite satisfied and enjoying life. 😃

So I got the call this morning that all county libraries are closed for the day on account of snow!🌨🌨 so I'm gonna watch my fave heros (Ms Marvel, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, and America) in animated form. Best day ever? Maybe. #marvelrising #msmarvel #americachavez #squirrelgirl #comics #girlpower
Sick today, so thought I would give the first volume of Ms. Marvel a try. Enjoying it so far!
It looks like Ms Marvel is getting a new writer! Wilson has passed the torch to Saladin Ahmed. I‘m equally exited and nervous. I‘ve never read any Saladin Ahmed but I think it‘s time to remedy that.
This is Ms Marvel volume 8. It‘s not in the database. It was a great volume. It kind of reflected what we are going through in today‘s times. Very good, 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don‘t know why I am so late in discovering this comic but I glad I did! It‘s excellent and I will definitely be reading more. Wilson‘s writing is great, love the storyline, and the artwork is fantastic. It‘s the story of Kamala Khan, a teen trying to find her place in the world, who suddenly gains some amazing and unpredictable, at least until she learns how to control them, superpowers. Love everything about it! Definitely recommended!
Went for a walk...Came back with some reading...Do I love living near one of the best comic stores in the city? Why yes, yes I do.
I am so in love with my Ms. Marvel pop. ⚡️ Now I just need them to make a movie with her in it.

Well...that was awesome!! On to volume 2!! ✌🏽📚❤️😊👍😎😻
A little #readingresolutions catch-up! Here‘s my June TBR
3 graphic novels, 2 YA, 1 quick nonfiction about color, and 1 sci fi that I‘m currently reading.
#junetbr @Jess7
Admittedly my comics growing up were Archie and Millie the Model. But I‘m having fun with this new Marvel series.
#trivialthursday @GarthRanzz
1. Hmm black panther, guardians of the Galaxy or hellboy (don't make me choose! )
2. Magneto is the most perfect villain to me. I sympathise with his position so much but I don't want him to win even though he often has a point.
3.Marvel all the way. I saw the x-men cartons when a kid and rogue was my first superhero love. As tough as the boys but still allowed to be feminine. Was groundbreaking to my young mind.
I don‘t like graphic novels or comics. I‘ve adopted Ebooks and come ‘round on audio but I just don‘t dig this way of telling a story 🙁 #ReadingResolutions by @Jess7 #photochallenge
I love that they make fun of these little things... 😂👍
I‘m not usually a superhero comic reader, but I loved this one and will definitely be checking out the next volume of the series. It‘s superhero, but questioning & coming-of-age, angsty and unsure young women, with some great ethnic backgrounds you don‘t usually see represented.... plus it‘s making fun of some of the usual superhero stereotypes. The whole package just worked for me! 👍
• 4/5 ⭐️ I stayed thoroughly entertained throughout the first installment! Such a unique concept of #diversity to bring to a diversity-starved readership. I thought some parts were silly but that‘s because I‘m reading a story about a high school student as a 31 year old college student! It‘s got action, emotion, just enough drama without making me puke and a great heroine who just wants to be accepted for who she is while kicking ass! Recommend •

When Kamala Khan uses her powers to "embiggen" herself to serve and protect the people of Jersey City, she's literally #nooneslittlegirl.

Kamala Khan! I love this book! I love Kamala! I love Ms. Marvel! The writing is great, the art is great, everything is great! Just read it already!

So much wisdom in this graphic novel! I shall be reading more and probably collecting too!!
“When we bury the things we don‘t want to face, monsters grow.”
“Good isn‘t a thing you are. It‘s a thing you do.” ❤️❤️❤️
Just finished this yesterday after a very rough two weeks. My world basically flipped upside down and now I‘m learning to walk on the ceiling. The last few pages made me smile and feel hopeful. Working on my trash!!!
Soooo... I happened to stop at the library to see if they had any Lumberjanes, because now I'm obsessed. And then I remembered @Librariana recommended Ms. Marvel and they had a bunch, so I grabbed those. And then since I was in the "teen" section I checked and Laini Taylor's new book was in. So here we are. ? (I did have a pumpkin chai with espresso - the sugar may have fueled my madness)
I‘ve been unusually busy for the last week or so and haven‘t had a chance to read much. (Must remedy this.) But the teen and I attended a talk and signing by G. Willow Wilson. She was delightful and it was interesting to hear how Kamala Kahn came into being. We get the comics digitally, so we asked her to sign the teen‘s pop figure and my copies of Alif the Unseen and The Butterfly Mosque. A great bookish night.
Loved, loved, loved it and you can read more about why at:

I liked this! I'll definitely be picking you the next volume. There's quite a few scenes that made me laugh and I love how they made the Muslim family and community--the point of it is not to point out how they are Muslim but rather that they are just like every other family with overprotective parents and a geeky sarcastic daughter & an underachieving brother. I'm really excited to see where this goes.
PS I know SO many people like Zoe.So many!
