pickThe first of the Auntie Poldi series. I think this was a good start to the series. It took a bit to get used to the format... Auntie Poldi is telling her nephew the story, so although it is mostly being told in the third person, the nephew occasionally interrupts with a question or comment. All the characters quirks were just starting to show at the end of the book, so I‘m interested to see how they develop further.
pickAuntie Poldi is a hot mess. She‘s unapologetically herself, take it or leave it, she couldn‘t care less. She‘s also hysterical. I enjoyed listening to this cozy mystery set in Sicily. The whodunnit was decent, but honestly, the crime takes a back seat to the delightful characters. This was a good break from darker, heavier reads.
panThis sounded like it would be fun in a screwball comedy sort of way but turned out to be a bit of a mess. It took me till chapter IV to work out who in the extended family moving about between Sicily and Bavaria was what relation to who. The romantic element was over the top. All in all, I don't think I will continue with this series.
This was a fun cozy mystery with a memorable MC but perhaps a little too clever for its own good.
I wanted to read three of seven library books. I finished two, returned one (for now), renewed one, and made progress on the rest. And checked out five more! I also completed the FB group reread of FOTR. Since I participated in every chapter discussion and led three of them, heck yeah I‘m including it in my count!

pickThis has been on my shelves for a while, and I‘m glad that #Booked2019 prompted my reading (#FoodOrBeverageOnTheCover)- it‘s a quick cozy mystery that would make for a great #Vacation read! You may solve the mystery before Auntie Poldi, but not without being utterly charmed and laughing along the way! I‘m already looking forward to tracking down the sequel! #SongsOfSummer

pickI went back and forth between a pick and a so-so and decided that I like Auntie Poldi so much she gets a pick just for being who she is. 😂 The mystery part was okay. I think I will give the next book in the series a try.

pickI don‘t read a ton of mysteries but this one felt very different from those I have read in the past. I enjoyed it and getting to know Auntie Poldi, who is eccentric and intelligent but not in a nutty or cute old lady sort of way. pickA mystery, translated from the German, set in Sicily. One of those books where the setting‘s culture, architecture, and topography are all characters. Quirky, charming.
pickAuntie Poldi sure did crack me up in this lighthearted cozy mystery with her brazen nosiness and penchant for a man in uniform. But I was a bit miffed when author Giordano's descriptions sometimes made her sound like a creaky old coot. Especially since she's younger than I am!!! 😆 I felt a little better when I found this more vivacious illustration of her on the German edition. 😁

pickI loved the way the old lady was portrayed. It was hard to just pin her as the Miss Marple type when she kept acting like she was a good 20 years younger. I enjoy old ladies who still have their groove.
bailedI'm conflicted. On the one hand, this sounded really good to me and I'd heard lots of positives about it but, on the other hand, I'm not enjoying it. I'm having to force myself to read so I'm bailing.

😩 I feel like I'm slogging my way through this book; Auntie Poldie (or, more truthfully, her narrator nephew) just isn't grabbing me. I'm not giving up quite yet but my thoughts keep straying to starting one of these pretty books instead.
1- I've been eager to read this but now that I've started I don't know if I like it. Barely into second chapter, though, will definitely give it more time.
2- No. The Hubs has to work so I'm reading, cross stitching, and doing laundry.
3- Cabbage salad, cheeseburgers, and chip n dip!

When Auntie Poldi is first introduced she seems like she has a big personality that will be entertaining, but this isn't sustained well through the book and I found many parts kind of boring and slow.

A young man she has hired to help out with her fixer upper goes missing and she decides to investigate. pickI have been sick this week, so I have had more time to read this humorous mystery set in Sicily. Auntie Poldi is a very different kind of detective than I am used to. She drinks too much and has the hots for the actual detective on the case. There is a lot going on in this one, but all-in-all, I enjoyed it:)
pickTotally enjoyed this book that I won from #BookishFirst! A 60-year-old widow, Auntie Poldi, moves from Munich to Sicily (where her in laws live) to have a view of the sea and drink herself to death. That plan is thwarted as she feels compelled to investigate the murder of her young errand boy. Needless to say, she is a character! The writing is humorous and smoothly flowing (if a bit long-winded). Totally recommend! Hope for more! 4⭐️
