I follow Tiffany on social media & appreciated reading her story. She is not a professional author, so the writing is a little less polished than in a typical novel or ghostwritten memoir, but she provides a candid & humble peek into the life of an addict. Tiffany's story does definitely benefit from privilege. This does need to be acknowledged, but shouldn't devalue her addiction journey. I recommend the author narrated audio.

May 30, 2022 SO... I finished the book. Are you proud? Jk... no need for an applause. This book was a page turner and a book one can read in one sitting. I mean I read it in 4 sittings but that is just me. I loved this book and it gave me a deep dive into an addict's life. 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is a compelling memoir about addiction and recovery. It‘s well written and was difficult to put down especially in the second half. Her story is wild. I don‘t doubt that it all happened, but much of the narrative was so detailed that I wondered how accurate the details and dialogue are, being based on months or years old memories from when she was actively using or in jail. That was a little distracting, but overall great book!

DrexEdit Thanks for the follow @fredthemoose! Welcome to Litsy! 🥳👍😊 3y

Just finished High Achiever by Tiffany Jenkins
Wow, I've read some memoirs and addiction stories, but nothing like this one! An addict with a cop boyfriend. Crazy story and a really quick read! It's only 369 pages so I was able to start and finish in just a few hours. Highly recommend!

Just finished this book. It wasn't as funny as I would expect something from Tiffany to be, but I think it worked because of the serious subject matter. I just kept picturing my loved ones who have been in similar situations. It's heartbreaking. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a fairly wild ride of a memoir that is brutally and specifically honest about the terrible things that addiction drove the author to do. It‘s an interesting story that does it‘s job of making super clear the shocking and destructive nature of drug addiction. I‘d probably have benefited from listening to this a bit more consistently, and from reading the blurb before I picked it up. I was expecting a bit more “high functioning” addict.

I didn‘t enjoy this reading experience, which is probably to be expected when it is about the kinds of things that happen because of drug addiction. I didn‘t find the story to be particularly incredible either. I glad she is doing well now, and the book does give a good picture of desperation but I kept wondering how she could possibly remember all of this in detail. I wanted to learn more about her recovery.

This is my #DoubleSpin for November

Moonprismpower I really liked Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown. It‘s a memoir about an abused, drugs addict who takes a turn for the better. Maybe try that instead? 3y

If you know who Tiffany Jenkins is, if you follow her on Facebook or Instagram, you probably love the woman! She's so funny, and not fake at all. Her videos make you feel better on the worst of days. She's totally relatable.
Her book is crazy. In a good way. Its exactly like she is starring in a role on 'Orange is the New Black' but this is real life events people! All these scenes in the book happened. 😳 I have respect for how far she has come!

I'm a fan of Tiffany online. I wish this book had had more back story on her intro to drugs and personal reasons for taking them, as that is one of the things that interests me in addiction memoirs. The flipping back and forth between past and present made the book move, but also added confusion. Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was eloquent on the day to day thought processes and actions of a pretty high-functioning addict, which was compelling.

WOW. Tiffany‘s memoir was both inspiring, heartbreaking, and hilarious all in one. Her writing is blunt and straightforward, which I really enjoyed. I pictured everything she was narrating. It reminded me so much of Orange is the New Black, but to understand that it‘s a true story blows my mind.

Cosmos_Moon Ooo! I want to hear what you think of this book. Addiction has touched my life so much in the last few years by struggling family and friends. My sister was on the news last night (in a positive light) talking about overcoming her struggles. I can‘t help sharing cause I am so proud of her and thankful she is alive... https://fox11online.com/news/local/help-still-available-even-as-opioid-overdoses... 4y
Soytoosaucy @Cosmos_Moon Wow so sorry that addiction has affected you life. I can‘t imagine how tough it is. I watched the link you shared and it is amazing! Congrats to your sister! So far I can‘t even put this book down, IT‘S GOOD. I never personally dealt with addiction but it always interested me how people can overcome it and what got them there in the first place. But I‘ll definitely share my thoughts on the book as I go and after I‘m finished 🤗 (edited) 4y

Tiffany is straightforward and so honest about her life in jail and rehab as a result of drug use and subsequent theft. Details of her life leading up to her arrest come out at the end of the book which I thought was an intriguing way to tell her story. "Orange is the New Black" vibes in the beginning. Also, Tiffany narrates the #audiobook which is so great. At times, it is lol-funny and others heartbreaking.

Cosmos_Moon Oooh, cool! This is already on my TBR. Her YouTube videos are hilarious. 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Whoa, Jenkins does not sugarcoat. With great detail, sadness, regret, and humor, she divulges what addiction did to her life, and what she did to people she loved and respected. As the daughter of a recovering alcoholic, parts of this absolutely resonated. Addiction is an horrific beast.

This book is a fascinating, quick read. I usually switch back and forth between books, but like @Reviewsbylola & @guinsgirlreads I just couldn‘t put it down. (Other than to sleep, lol.)

Tiffany lays out the story of her arrest, addiction to OxyContin and recovery in a plainspoken, compelling way. A must-read for memoir fans and those interested in addiction and recovery. TW for graphic drug use.

Reviewsbylola I‘m so glad you liked this one Meg! I read a few one star reviews on GR that took Tiffany to task for being narcissistic and only focusing on her addiction and not what came after. Which I thought was a bit ridiculous as 1. One of the major issues of drug addiction is that you think only of yourself. That high is all you can think of and you‘ll do anything to get it. I found her really authentic in that way actually and 2. The book was about her 4y
Reviewsbylola addiction, not what came after. Why would they expect a widened scope? 4y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola totally agree on point 1 and 2. Plus, when I‘m looking at a memoir like this, I‘m looking for it to be readable and interesting. It totally delivered on those two points as well. 4y

So I ordered this book on the recommendation of @Reviewsbylola and it came from amazon with poop on it. Seriously, you look at this spot in person, and you can tell. I‘m a vet. I know poop.

I really liked this book, though admittedly I am biased after watching her videos on FB and seeing her live.
This book gets awkward, and not just like weird mom awkward. Like it talks about doing things that just make you cringe. It is, at times, difficult to read. And a few times I had to put it down and do something else before I could go back. But her story is amazing, her voice is funny, and it is well worth the journey of reading it.

3.5/5
Raw and uncomfortable, this memoir is about an addict and the lengths she went to in order to feed her addiction. I blew through this since her story captivated me. However, while I appreciated and applauded the author‘s honesty, I just didn‘t love the entitlement in her tone. I also wanted a bit more about her and what led to her becoming an addict. Without that, I felt I couldn‘t relate to her as much.
