so-soYet another brutal Jack London book. Not as brutal as White Fang imo..but still.. I think maybe I'm not a Jack London fan. Lol. The story of a wolf-dog as he fights to survive all man and nature can throw at him. And it's a lot.
so-soI‘m glad so many people enjoy this story. It probably deserves it‘s place as a classic. Unfortunately it didn‘t work for me. I found the writing very plain and I wasn‘t crazy about the P.O.V. Of the animal. I was sort of bored. 😑

pickThis is my first Jack London. I love animals and nature so, I suspected I would appreciate his work. I was apprehensive as the description mentioned White Fang‘s cruel owners. Reading about the abuse White Fang endured hurt my heart and it made me love him more. I was hopeful he would find a human that would love and treat him the way he deserved. This is an incredible story of endurance and perseverance; I loved it from beginning to end.#MountTBR
pickMy first encounter with a full length book by Jack London. I've read his shorter novels, some twice. Now it was finally time to try his longer stories as well.
As we know from Jack London, he's sometimes hard to read. He shows us the hard life of the north, where kill or being killed matters. Sure, his descriptions of wolfish life isn't up-to-date anymore, but he was one of the first who really tried to get into animal behaviour. ⬇
There's an infamous story in my friend group about one of us going to see #ThePassionOfTheChrist and afterward, overhearing a fellow audience member say, "I haven't cried that hard since White Fang!" Even today, repeating that is guaranteed to make us burst out laughing, and these two things are now forever, incongruously, linked in my mind. ? #MoviesInApril #ThePassionOfChrist

pickI am not so much of a classics reader. I LOVED this book. I love White Fang and the whole story lead me on a roller coaster of emotions.
so-soFirst finished book in my new home. I liked that the perspective was that of the wolf-dog White Fang. Enjoyed it while I was reading but not something that I can see myself picking up again.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a compelling story showing that although a person‘s or Wolf-dog‘s life may shape him or her towards a morose, solitary and hateful disposition, it is never too late as long as someone is willing to extend a hand. Plus, I find London‘s portrayal of the wild and the domestic captivating.
It was a placing of his destiny in another's hands, a shifting of the responsibilities of existence. This in itself was compensation, for it is always easier to lean upon another than to stand alone.

Half of this book is basically a dictionary 😂 There are over 200 hundred definitions counting all of the footnotes and honestly I find myself distracted by finding all those little numbers while trying to finish a sentence. 😥
I'm revisiting an old childhood favorite while I wait for my car to get ready. I bought and read this book as a kid because it had a wolf on the cover. 😂
According to the blurb on the back of the book, London committed himself to writing a 1000 words a day for 16 years!!
pickThis book was beautifully written. It follows the life of White Fang from puppyhood up to fatherhood. I can 100% understand why this is a favored book for younger readers! 💖

pickDefinitely not a cuddly puppy story. Brutal lives and weather. While this was a decent survival story for teenagers, it felt lacking in many ways. We got a pretty shallow view of the characters. Good or evil or indifferent with very little background info.

Both are #readingwithfriends books. I have read White Fang way back in primary school (Ages and ages ago) and it was a major part in a ‘gang‘ we had back then...so re-reading this for old time sake along with one of the original gang-members @Greensapphirine

Love the straightforward but evocative writing.
One of my girls brought her beat-up copy of The Call of the Wild & White Fang to me. She knows I'm not a fan of books from the POV of animals. (I don't know why. I've always found them soooo boring.)
She asked me to give Jack London another try. So here I am, with White Fang on print and audio.
Thankfully John Lee makes everything possible 🙌🏻 Years after I read this for the first time, I finally care about this book. This is so exciting to me.
