Poriot is back and as cantankerous as ever in this new mystery set in London. He teams up with a young inspector from Scotland Yard to uncover the truth behind a double suicide and later three murders at a swanky hotel. I liked it!

Read this book as part of a book swap with a friend. I struggled at parts of it. I felt the book was too long. What I love about Agatha Christie is the brevity of her novels. It‘s quick.

I love Agatha Christie, so I was a little nervous about these New Poirot books. But Sophie Hannah really captured him as well as the feeling of reading a Christie book! I‘ve already got the next one on hold.

You know that feeling in a mystery novel when you‘re getting a full confession and all you think “This can‘t be right, there are still 3 1/2 hours left in this book” ?

I had waited to read these Sophie Hannah-written Poirot novels, thinking they‘d be no good, but this one‘s pretty masterful. My only complaint is how long it is 🙄

Heads up! This Agatha Christie lovely is on sale this month for $1.99 on kindle. I was so happy the other day when I stumbled across 5 or 6 of her books at the used bookstore. I‘m hoping to collect them all at some point!

JenlovesJT47 Hmm I somehow missed the fact that this was written by someone else with the approval of Dame Agatha‘s estate! Should be interesting. 🤔 2y
Ingerella That's tricky! I wouldn't have seen that either! 2y
LiteraryinLititz @JenlovesJT47 @Ingerella Sophie Hannah does a GREAT job with these books! Agatha Christie is my favorite author, and I think Sophie has really paid homage to her and to Poirot. She has 2 books out already and another coming out in a few months. The 2 that are out already are well worth a read! 2y
Ingerella @LiteraryinLititz Good to know! 2y

erzascarletbookgasm I know some reviewers think Monogram Murders is a sacrilege..I read it with reservations too, but I do think it's a pretty decent crafted read. I'm thinking if I should read Closed Casket. 3y
Simona @batsy I'm not familiar with her other books, but this is quite solid and comparable with the works of A.Christie, IMO 🤷‍♀️ 3y
Simona @erzascarletbookgasm Sure, for hard core fans, it is! And I understand that, but that doesn't mean that these new stories are bad... I will read Closed Casket eventually ...as well as her next Poirot books (should be published in 2018 and 2020). 3y

I am starting to doubt that Edward Catchpool is the criminal... but he still has an unknown past so i'd be wary 'bout him. But Poirot trusts him so, and who am i to Poirot's judgement? 😙😙😙

"Or, I should say, that was how it appeared to start. I'm not convinced that stories from real life have beginnings and ends, as a matter of fact. Approach them from any vantage point and you'll see that they stretch endlessly back into the past and spread inexorably forward into the future. One is never quite able to say 'That's that, then,' and draw a line."

After my French exam I was like: "I just gonna take a look to the books they have here..."

I ended up with four books and thinking that I deserved it because we're almost finished... This 'The Monogram Murders' by Sophie Hannah was one of them and I'm starting to read it immediately after my last exam... tomorrow!

I haven't read too many murder mysteries and I've never read any Agatha Christie, so this was my first time meeting Hercule Poirot. The scheme seemed convoluted and I'm not entirely satisfied with how it came together. That being said I'm glad the narrator was as exasperated with Poirot's pedantic and boastful nature as I was at times. But Dame Christie obviously has a gift for characters and plot so I'd like to read more of her.

Sophie Hannah has really captured the essence of Poirot and his little grey cells. Easy read, although a convoluted 'whodunnit'.

Okay I did have another #blameitonlitsy . Months ago we had a photo challenge that was on books by POC. I never realized I didn't have any, except the one bellow. I would have normally passed it onto a library right away (not my usual type of genre) but I kept it and will read it because of @RealLifeReading and Litsy #marchintoreading

Jolly good fun. Sophie Hannah did an excellent job with this new Poirot novel. Though the Scotland Yard detective from whose perspective the novel reads is a bit of a dolt (but a likeable dolt). I have had this on my shelf for a while. Had to read it ASAP when I realized I had the second one checked out from the library before I had read the first one I actually owned. #booknerdproblems

LiteraryinLititz I liked it too! I preferred the second to the first. Hopefully Sophie Hannah will write more; it's exciting to have new Poirot stories. :) 3y
LizzyM @LiteraryinLititz I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. I admit I was a bit skeptical. Going to jump right into the second - 3y

Okay, so this may not be so diverse, but last month I didn't have a book by a PoC on my shelf. It's happy accident but I do now. With full rights and permissions Sophie Hanna is taking over Agatha Christies' Hercule Perot. This book is out and 2 is due out soon. #booktober #day8 #diverse reads

So it's hard to know how I feel about this exactly, especially as a huge Hercule Poirot fan. I liked Catchpool, and I think it was a good choice to have him narrate. Through his eyes, we're seeing Poirot differently, so any differences due to a new writer aren't glaring. Also the case was B A N A N A S

I'm always wary when a new author writes novels featuring an iconic protagonist. But while Sophie Hannah's Poirot is a bit less egotistical than Dame Agatha's and his English has improved, his little grey cells are just as sharp. New narrator Edward Catchpool is perhaps even better suited to the task than Capt. Hastings. With enough plot twists and well-drawn characters to satisfy this avid mystery reader, Poirot's comeback seems in good hands..

I grew up on Agatha Christie novels so I was so excited when Sophie Hannah wrote a new Poirot. I thought it was pretty good. I can't explain what it is missing that makes it not as satisfying as a real Agatha Christie, but being able to spend more time with Poirot is a treat. More please.

msbookleaf Poirot seemed less flamboyant and London lacking in atmosphere to me. But I did enjoy the read, and look forward to more. 👍🏼 4y

Who can resist a new, true-to-tone Hercule Poirot novel in which Hercule waxes eloquent about correct grammar? Fun read so far.
