I‘m so late to the party on this one, but holy spacecats that‘s the best sci-fi book I‘ve ever read!!
After moving my entire library 3 times over the past 5 years, I've become increasingly selective about what physical books I want to add to my collection. The Wayfarers series definitely makes the grade, and as a Christmas gift, was the #LastFirst of the year!
Took care of my #JumpStart2023 goal to read the books I received for Christmas!
Enjoyed this one a lot even if I don't know how to describe it! This follows a long mission of the wayfarer, a ship made to build new wormholes, going to a small angry planet to do their job. But that's just the framing. The book is about the journey and how people bond, or not, when stuck with each other for so long among folks of completely different species and cultures. Found family is a repeated theme.
I felt like this book wasn‘t what I expected, but it‘s completely my fault because it IS EXACTLY WHAT THE TITLE SAYS! It‘s the journey, not the job itself, that is the point. I loved the character development all around. I will probably continue the series, but I‘m not scrambling to do so.
My favorite reads of 2022! I read 176 books this year and will not cut my favorites down to 10!
These were all amazing reads that I continue to think about days, weeks, months after putting them down.
My bookish presents! I hope I will like the Wayfarer Series, it‘s always a gamble to have several books from an unknown series. My friend sew me a second book bag. I also got a Game for my switch, a dvd, a blanket with whales, a gift card from a book store and a Hamilton Funko Pop 🥰📖🎉.

The tagged book is btwn a pan and so-so for me. #unpopularopinion but the hard science/tech + an overwhelming amount of world-building and interspecies cultural context = too exhausting to be enjoyable for me.
The real redeeming quality was that the main characters were fantastic and my heart ached for them by the end. Still, not going to continue with this series right now.
BUT HEY I‘ve finally finished my next #promptmaze!! @TheAromaofBooks
What a great book. I‘m a Becky Chambers fan. This is my first full length novel by her, though I‘ve read three novellas. I‘m going to look up the next in the series and check my closest used bookstores. (After the holidays)
If you like your sci-fi a bit on the quiet side with lots of sweet characters and some philosophical conversations, and don‘t mind that the action only comes in small short pockets, pick this up.
I guess this is one way to do bedtime reading Sietje. 🐶🤣💕
Pretty sure I got this battered copy from @SenatorMothma at a swap. I love well used books, the way the pages get softer and the spine already cracked so I don‘t worry about being super careful with it. This has some bangs on the spine and wrinkles on the cover and feels really nice in my hand.
Anyone else love used books for similar reasons?
(Of course I love my new books too!)
4.5/5⭐ A perfect mix of fun and serious. There are so many layers to the characters, so many meaningful themes and ideas without punching the reader in the face with philosophy. I could barely put it down. #booked2022
I never thought of fear as something that can go away. It just is. It reminds me that I want to stay alive. That doesn‘t strike me as a bad thing.
Reads like a cross between Firefly, the Expanse and Red Dwarf with a bit of the Ship Who Sang.
This book feels like a combination of all my favorite space shows from the last 90s and early 2000s. And yet again I have fallen for an AI and that is just not good bro. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely loved this book and couldn‘t put it down. I have ordered the sequel and can‘t wait for it to arrive and get back into this universe. It‘s not quite conventional space faring sci-fi, with much less emphasis on the physics and a lot more about how different cultures develop and what happens when they try to live harmoniously together. Very very well written.
Fun and thoughtful! I loved all the characters.
Next up..No work tomorrow and im going to spend the night drowning my sorrows in this one 🙃

This is still for me, hands down, one of the best sci-fi trilogies ever! I'm always recommending it to people because of how wholesome and fun it is! 💕📚💕

Hated it. First book I have failed to finish for YEARS! I get what she is trying to do - establish new characters and the setting which will lead the way to further novels. Got about 33% through and was just soooo bored. Unless you are a die-hard Science Fiction fan with too much time on their hands- I really wouldn't bother.

1. Love this book, very cozy sci fi, slice of life with low stakes, and found family. 🚀
2. Right now, it‘s curled up in the corner of the couch, under a blanket, with the cat on my lap.
3. Apple cinnamon tea with a little bit of honey. Very good for my throat! 🫖
#SundayFunday Hope you all are doing well, and don‘t forget to tag me!
2thumbs way up for this fun intergalactic adventure! I do not know why I waited so long to read this it is great!
Chambers does an excellent job introducing the characters and weaving in back stories, while keeping the pace going and woooo that last 100 pages is a ride it has been a long time since I read a book I really did not want to put down and this one was that. Her characters both physically and culturally we're creative but not too much.

"As she woke up in the pod, she remembered three things."
I have been striking out on most of my July reads but this on thankfully is fantastic!!
This is the first book of the Wayfarers series and I‘m hooked. The unbelievable creativity behind the world building and the wide variety of creatures within was mind boggling. I enjoyed all of it. My favorite part was how this group of misfits brought together by chance had become a tight family. They annoyed each other, they stood up for each other, they were there when it counted. I‘m ready for my next space adventure with the Wayfarer crew.

I am not a hardcore Sci-Fi fan but I did enjoy this book. I didn‘t love it, but I certainly liked it enough to give it 3 stars. I would recommend to the right person.
Fleeing her old life, Rosemary Harper joins the multi-species crew of the Wayfarer as a file clerk, and follows them on their various missions throughout the galaxy.
As she woke up in the pod, she remembered three things.

This was an absolute delight, and I don‘t say that often about Sci-fi. A lovely cast of characters go on adventures in space. Very similar found family vibes to TJ Klune‘s books. I have added the rest of the series to my tbr! 5⭐️

1. 🚀🥰👾🤖👩🏽🚀🌌
2. The House in the Cerulean Sea - would love to read more stories of this adorable found family.
3. Last read: King of Scars - 4⭐️
I read this a few years ago but started reading it on a whim as a palate cleanser after Trust, and it is just an absolute delight. I can't believe how much I'm enjoying it.
Is there any better way to procrastinate than with a new book? Should I be grading some essays? Yes, but I'd rather sit in the sun and escape to space.
This was so freaking good. Excellent character composition with so much wonderful, masterfully handled. So many great character interactions. It wasn't sappy, but dang it hit the feels. The plot was magnificent & just flowed. It tackled so many BIG social topics in a natural & noninflammatory way. Just amazing. This is one of those books that feels like it just opened a whole new realm of reading possibilities. Do yourself a favor. Read it.
#audiobook - wow this is so great so far! Loving the book and highly recommend this in audio. Amazing narrator!
1. Cozy Sci Fi 👽
2. I love learning about new books and all the pics of pets and shelfies and book hauls and snacks
3. Who knows-- endless possibilities.
@Eggs #WonderousWednesday
This was such a boring slog of a read. There was no dramatic tension, there was no tension full stop. Things were introduced then immediately resolved.
Too much nothingness
Managed to finish off my #Roll100 for March.
I really loved this one. The characters were so varied and interesting. Their relationships complicated and sweet. While not much happens from an action perspective, you see the characters grow on their long haul trip. I will definitely be looking at reading the others :)

Happy Sunday! 🎉🎉
1. Usually I can‘t decide between sci fi and fantasy, but lately I‘ve been really getting into some great sci fi! 🚀
2. I adore this book. Gives me some very Star Trek vibes.
3. Chambers is great, but I also love what I‘ve read by Nnedi Okorafor!
#SundayFunday Have a great day and don‘t forget to tag me so I can see your responses!
One of my favourite books of all time. I think it is perfect.
This was a beautiful, heart warming story that really pushed and expanded the beautiful ideas of Love and Family. Can't wait to read the whole series. This book brought up so many questions for me about my understanding of love and relationships and beauty, this story really is heartwarming.
*Looks Around Litsy... What does this make us?*
This was such a delight to read! Space shenanigans reminiscent of Firefly, and characters that are easy to love. The discussions about different cultures, politics, and space science were all well written, entertaining, and mature without being preachy/predictable.
This book is much more focused on characters than anything else. Cause after 400+ pages, not much happened, but I adored every moment spent on the Wayfarer with the heart warming crew!
Got all my #NewYearWhoDis books lined up so I can finally start digging in. I‘m currently reading the tagged book which wasn‘t on @Karisa‘s list, but I‘m really enjoying it so have no doubt I will make it to the 4th in the series, which is the one on her list, sometime soon this year! Migrations will be the first off the list I‘ll start next.
#12Booksof2021 @Andrew65 Favorite book of March 2022.
The characters were well developed, the plot was good but the prose is fantastic.
Had an amazing day out with @Emilymdxn 🥰
I had a chance to finish The Long Way on the train back home. I found the first 200 pages a bit slow going but finished the second half much more quickly. Pretty good book but I‘m not sure if I will finish the series.
Emily also gave me The Love Hypothesis ❤️ and I‘m debating whether to read that or Red, White & Royal Blue next.
I recently handed in a complete draft of my doctorate (minus introduction & conclusion, which I‘m writing last) so I‘ve been on my winter break since then. I‘m using this time to read more fiction including this which was a birthday gift from @Emilymdxn !
Happy to report that I finished a few great books in the last couple weeks and got a #BookSpinBingo:
- Wrath of Empire by Brian McClellan;
- The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers;
- The Starlings & Other Stories - an anthology by the so-called Murder Squad and their Accomplices, edited By Ann Cleeves.
All authors I will read more from and all great book picks!
