Confessions on the 7:45: A Novel
Confessions on the 7:45: A Novel | Lisa Unger
[A] taut, beautifully-written novel. Sarah Pekkanen, #1 New York Times bestselling author of An Anonymous Girl From master of suspense Lisa Unger comes a riveting thriller about a chance encounter that unravels a stunning web of lies and deceit. Be careful to whom you tell your darkest secrets Selena Murphy is commuting home from her job in the city when the train stalls out on the tracks. She strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat, and their connection is fast and easy. The woman introduces herself as Martha and confesses that shes been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selenas station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again. But days later, Selenas nanny disappears. Soon Selena finds her once-perfect life upended. As she is pulled into the mystery of the missing nanny, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, Selena begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what shell discover. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of the timeless classic Strangers on a Train, Confessions on the 7:45 is a gripping thriller about the delicate facades we create around our lives.

Soft pick. Very suspenseful, definitely kept me reading, but I don‘t know that it will stand out in the long run.

Selena meets a woman on the train in a moment when she is pretty vulnerable. She tells the woman a secret, and the woman tells her a secret as well. Selena thinks nothing of it until her secret comes true. I read this one in a day.

Another great book from Lisa Unger. I think she will become another one of my favorite authors. A twisty turny psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Who is Martha and does she mean harm or does she want to help Selena?

Confessions on the 7:45 is a great suspenseful, thriller! I loved listening to every minute. Lisa Unger‘s introduction of many characters instantly got my mind whirling and trying to figure out how, if at all, these characters were tied to each other. It was confusing, but in a good way. I like it when a story makes my mind work to solve a puzzle. 🧡💛🤎

So at first I thought this book was okay. But then I feel like it became a hot mess. It was very predictable and I'm really sick of the woe is me I am a woman and can't do anything for myself plot. It's old. Also the all men suck no matter what plot.. just not into it. 1/5

I felt this domestic thriller was repetitive in its message and in its plot points. The wrongs of men ignored by women in their life for far too long results in….this? I just can‘t get behind this plot line.

Oh, this was good - I'm a bit burnt out on thrillers that are just one ridiculous twist after another so this slow, steady build of this until it exploded really worked for me. The twists were more like curves or bends that actually made sense and the tension was just right. I'm surprised I haven't read Unger before, if all of her work is like this, I've got a good time ahead of me.

This week I finished this one which is the first audiobook I‘ve ever listened to.
Unfortunately it‘s not the best thriller I‘ve read and I wasn‘t really a fan of the many changes in perspective. Sadly it also didn‘t really surprise me.

It‘s important to mention that I don‘t really love listening to audiobooks so my opinion might be influenced by that 😅 Reading a physical book is definitely something I enjoy more!

I ended up throughly enjoying this domestic thriller. At first, the multitude of perspectives kept throwing me off. It felt disjointed, but towards the middle of the book, it got much better and all started adding up. Some of the adding was a surprise, but some plot points were easy to put together. It had a decent ending and I‘d recommend it to a thriller lover.

So Lisa Unger has done it again. This novel was everything I needed for this month. It made me view con artists in a different way. Even though you‘re married to someone, how well do you truly know your partner? How one can have so many identities? Maybe being with someone who is predictable is better than being with someone who is wild/free-spirited. Once a cheater, always a cheater. How can someone who does bad things, have a good heart?

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It's the type of book I don't read a lot of, so i never see the twists coming. This kept me intrigued and engaged and i liked the way the puzzle pieces all fit together. I'd probably try another of hers in the future.

I stopped at my library. I was looking for 2 specific Stephen King books, The Green Mile & The Shawshank Redemption. They had neither. 😐
They had these 3, though, that were all on my want to reads list, so these are my weekend reads. I haven't felt like anything i have at home, anyway.
I'm going to start with Confessions because I always go by page count when I can't decide.

Selena seems to have the perfect life with a house, a husband and two little boys. But we never really know what goes on behind closed doors, and Selena has just learned her husband Graham is sleeping with the nanny.

After catching them on her nanny cam, Selena meets a stranger on the train and confesses what she just learned about her husband.

Only days later, the nanny disappears.

Who is the stranger from the train?

Definitely recommend!

This was twisty and engaging. I was certainly invested in seeing how the story played out and I was not disappointed. One of the things I liked best was that- good or bad- all the characters were nuanced, with shades of grey. The evil characters had positive traits while the good ones had unattractive traits and even the most morally neutral characters weren't "flat." They all seemed real.

I was on the waiting list at the library for a long time for this book and expected more 🤷🏻‍♀️. It was good but not great.

Bakingbookworm I‘m just over half way and feel the same way. It‘s not engaging me and there‘s no tension. It‘s more of a contemporary fiction read. I may DNF it. 4y

I could see my current read (well, one of them) as a potential #BeachRead, thriller type. I'm not connecting with the characters and about to set it aside for now though. Maybe I would enjoy it more if it was summer here too? 🤷‍♀️

Lizpixie There‘s not much sun here either currently. It‘s rained since before Xmas every day! Huge thunderstorms⛈⚡️⛈ 4y
Karisa @Lizpixie Oh no! Does that pose any fire risks with the lightning? Our news has been so dominated by covid and him-who-shall-not-be-named, I feel like I never hear about the rest of the world 4y
Lizpixie Normally it would but we‘ve had so much rain the past month so everything‘s pretty much soaked through. January‘s usually 35-43C with minimal rain but with La Niña conditions we‘ve had over 40mm of rain in just the past week! 4y

So I stopped reading Lisa Unger books a few years ago because of some questionable undertones/politics I read in her books. It was not one thing but many things that I was finding from book to book. I‘ve seen some good reviews for this one so I‘m going to give her another shot.
