A Kiss Of Shadows
A Kiss Of Shadows: (Merry Gentry 1) | Laurell K Hamilton
Laurell K. Hamilton's 'Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter' novels have established her as a force to be reckoned with. Her voice is fresh, her style sensual, her characters leap off the page and her blend of the contemporary and the supernatural is both original and exciting. Now, in A KISS OF SHADOWS, she introduces readers to an unforgettable new heroine: Meredith Gentry. A Los Angeles private investigator with a strange speciality - supernatural crime, Merry has an even stranger secret: she's a Faerie princess in hiding, and on the run from her own otherworldly realm. For her aunt, the malevolent Queen of Air and Darkness, has dispatched her chief bodyguard back to the mortal world to fetch Meredith back, whether she likes it or not. She is to be the pawn in a plot that will transform the future of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. Her role: to enjoy the constant company of the most beautiful - and immortal - men in the world of the Sidhe. Her reward: the crown. The penalty for refusal: death... Rich, sensual and full of earthly pleasures, dazzling magic and memorable characters, some as deadly as they are beautiful, A KISS OF SHADOWS is an unbridled tour-de-force of the imagination where folklore, myth and legend come together with thrilling, erotically-charged adventure.

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

Next in my catchup of this game is the 1st book in Hamilton‘s Merry Gentry series. A magical realism/paranormal romance series, it‘s set in a world where the Fae are real and living among us. The Unseelie Court live in an underhill on the border of Illinois & Missouri. After fleeing the court in fear for her life, Princess Meredith returns to find a husband & become heir. What can I say, I‘m a sucker for the Fae🧚🏼‍♂️

My first check-in for the #MarvellousMay #readathon & I‘m doing much better than expected! I got about halfway through The Murder Rule before a combo of headache, eye strain & fatigue forced me to stop, so I pulled out my now “vintage” iPod & started the tagged book, which is a total comfort reread. Fingers crossed I‘ll finish both by tomorrow🤞How are you guys doing?

Andrew65 A brilliant start 👏👏👏 I finished one book yesterday and read 286 pages. 3y

Book 9 of the year, finished Feb ?, eyeball

I really enjoyed this one. At the end it does start to tip more into porn than I care for but there is a plot running through it, which is about all I ask in a romance novel.
Looking forward to the next one once it's ready for me through the library.

Don't know exactly why, but #Maneater made me think of the first Merry Gentry book.

This pic shows the German edition, which I bought for a friend.

Also #GhostCat and the Indian Summer we're enjoying today. #catsoflitsy

1. Any time reading is a pleasure. I refuse to feel guilty about it. But ... to answer. I‘ll say the Merry Gentry series from Laurell K. Hamilton.
2. All those dramas! Give me a good cry and I‘m happy. I can watch The English Patient over and over.
3. Desserts of all kinds.
4. Everyone!!!

#CoolBooks #FairytaleEdition #day1 #Fairy I have so many Fairytale retellings, books about fairies or books that have fairies in them as side characters, but the Merry Gentry series is the most reread of the lot. I‘m total trash for these books, they‘re my #guiltypleasureread for sure. Mostly about the Unseelie & Seelie Sidhe(the ruling class of fairy) there‘s also plenty of pixies,🧚🏻‍♀️sprites, pukhas & troes. And sex. Lots & lots of sex.😳

2BR02B My friend recommended this to me recently- specifically because of the copious sex scenes! 😂 6y
Linsy Fun! I love fairy books of all sorts! But I have to admit, mine have been pretty tame up to this point. Now I know where to turn if I‘m looking to branch out! 💋🧚‍♀️💋 (edited) 6y

I love romance/erotica but I have never been able to wrap my head around fantacy. I'm in the 3 chapter it's a slow start. And I'm trying really had to under stand what's going on magically. I'm really hoping to get more onto this! I want to be challenged with new genres.

This is a paranormal romance, which is the first in a series which is quite popular. I found it kind of meh. I don‘t remember much of what happened (I read it almost 20 years ago!) but that the sex was quite graphic (and scandalized my young self) and pretty gratuitous and non-essential to the narrative.

This was the first thing I thought of when I saw today's prompt was #blushful... Good old half human, half fairy Merry Gentry and her cadre of lovers. It's my guilty pleasure read because it's absolute smut but it's sooo entertaining. If you're into that kind of thing, there are 9 books in the series...

⭐⭐⭐⭐

#yesvember @Libby1

WarpedSweetness I read the first three books of this series, but haven't read the rest. It was very smutty. Lol But I do like Laurell K Hamilton 7y
EchoLogical @WarpedSweetness So smutty! I was almost too embarrassed to post about it but decided "what the hay" and went with it. I really do find the family dynamics and royal intrigue of both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts fascinating. I love stories about the Fae. 7y
WarpedSweetness @EchoLogical That's why I first started reading it. I was so fascinated by the Seelie and Unseelie. I love stories about the Fae also. Anything supernatural is interesting to me. And don't be took embarrassed to post about anything! You're in good company with the Littens. I once post about this daddy-daughter romance I read. Lol 7y
EchoLogical @WarpedSweetness Gross! 🤢😂 Did you make it through the whole book? Lol 7y
WarpedSweetness It was gross! Unfortunately I did make it through the whole book. It was for research purposes. Lol A bunch of us on here kept seeing this book pop up, so I read it. 7y

#UncannyOctober #day21 #Exasperation🙄No author but Laurel.K.Hamilton can make my eyes roll so hard they feel like they're falling out of my head! The Anita Blake series started off so good when it was about executing vampires, raising zombies & solving cases, then she had to impose her life onto her book characters. I don't care who or how many she chooses to have in her life, but when her books become half plot, half porn, we have a problem🙄

jillannjohn Love this pic! 7y
DiruVamp Couldn‘t agree more! 7y
Owlizabeth I wouldn‘t mind if the porn was interesting, but it‘s gotten so complicated I just skim through so I don‘t get a headache. 7y

#UrbanFantasy #PrinceOfDarkness

Most urban fantasies I've read contain an element of darkness. In the Merry Gentry series by LK Hamilton Merry is a princess of darkness and needs to find her prince to become queen.

#booktober #day29 #supernaturalbeings I love my vampires& werewolves but I'm a sucker for a good faerie story, especially ones that are based on the Celtic version of the High Fae,the Seelie Sidhe & the Unseelie Sidhe.I know these are romance disguised as paranormal, but it's the descriptions of the courts & the specific deities that keeps my interest. The powers are nature based & the worship of a mother goddess are very pagan & based on real tales.

Claireluana I love books about the fae too! So much interesting mythology 8y
