" I don't want your money Kas, I want your soul!" A story about getting revenge on those who sent you to Hell.
" I don't want your money Kas, I want your soul!" A story about getting revenge on those who sent you to Hell.
A fantastic first novel from Richard Kadrey. Throws you into the world of James Stark, hit man from Hell, back to avenge the love of his life‘s death by setting out on a killing spree
Finally getting a chance to get my Sandman Slim fix for the day! Loving this book so far. The premise is great and there‘s a ton of dark humor.
Wasn‘t sure I‘d like this but it wasn‘t exactly what I expected. Worth a try for sure!
Read for book club. The book was okay. I enjoyed the side characters more, but while I thought the plot was interesting (a mix of The Crow and The Dresden Files), the main character's lack of of maturity was annoying and not as charming as I think the author intended. As a first book in the series, I'm sure it gets better, but I don't think I plan on continuing the journey.
So far it's a mix of The Crow and the Dresden Files. Reading this for book club. #audiobook
1st book down for the #24B4Monday #readathon @Andrew65 @SumisBooks @jb72
Meh. Maybe I'm sick of macho men. Comments like "they fall over like bowling pins with tits" about the people he's rescuing and I can't deal. And there aren't any chapter breaks! It has a certain gritty appeal if you like that, but the plot is all over the place. It did hold my attention, but I won't be moving forward with the series.
Actually not sure what I think about this/if I'm going to continue the series. I think maybe not? It's so very typical gritty masculine urban fantasy, and I don't love any of the characters.
#LitsyPSA: I‘ve not read the rest of the series yet but this one is a little gritty with some darkish humor and it was a fast, and sometimes, funny, read. My mom was a nurse so I grew up with some of that dark humor and I really appreciated it. Also, I saw this author at #GenCon2018 and he‘s pretty funny in real life too. It‘s on sale, you know you want to try it!
Dead man James Stark spends eleven years working as a hitman in Hell. Finally, he escapes and returns to hell-on-earth Los Angeles. Gritty urban fantasy that‘s, sadly, still on my TBR. Rated exceedingly well here and on GR.

Just back from a very long back country canoe/camping trip. This tagged along home with me. Came highly recommended. Looking forward to it.
Not only is Richard Kadrey one of my favorite authors but his Instagram account is amazing. He takes old book covers and changes the titles. Many of them are hilarious and a bit obscene. This is one of my favorites and I‘m not exactly sure why. You all should really follow him if your on the gram. It‘s worth it.
I didn‘t remember how this ended so that was a good surprise! It took awhile for it to pick up but I think that‘s because I‘ve read it before and could remember bits of it. If you‘re going to send someone to Hell, you should probably make sure they‘re gonna stay there. If they come back, they‘re probably not going to very happy to see you. A monster killing monsters, indeed.

More #GenCon2018 reading. I‘ve read this one before but I‘ve not read the rest of the series so I‘m starting over.
#GetMovin #day24 #WayDownWeGo I stumbled across this book series on Audible & ended up enjoying the 1st book so much I have the whole series so far in audiobook. After finding out he has magic in his veins, Stark, who would have been one of those boys your mother warned you about, instead is set up by a jealous wizard who envies his power. After 11yrs spent as a Hitman in Hell, he finds a way out & lands in modern LA looking for some payback.😈
#TuneIntoNovember #day19 #AintNoRestForTheWicked I first stumbled across this series on Audible, bought the first one and was hooked. This is like a cross between Firefly & Lucifer, it has that weary snarky feel with very dramatic & dark periods between. It's fantastic! James Stark was a magician. He had a natural talent for magic that got him betrayed & sent to Hell for 11yrs. After working as a hitman in hell, clawing his way back to LA is easy.
Mash up Constantine and Old Boy and throw in just a pinch of Dirty Harry and what do you get? Sandman Slim.
This dark urban fantasy sucked me in from the start. It's cynical, the magic is understated one moment then in your face the next, the action drives the pace, and the characters could almost walk off the page. I couldn't have asked for much more.
This worked out unexpectedly well. I'm currently reading Sandman Slim, a novel involving #lostloves and #Californialove.
I just started this book Tuesday night, but it has has me so swept up, I'll probably finish it later today!

I'm blaming my friend Molly and her obsession with Supernatural for my discovery of this series. (Enjoying it so far though!)
I want to read. Roxy wants to play. We are at an impasse.

I wanted to relax with a #bookanddrink tonight, but after finishing one book, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding what to read next! Sandman Slim? Enchantment? Bardic Voices? Court of Thorns and Roses? Outlander?
Help!

So.... I'm reading out of order, which I hate (and avoiding all the other books on my TBR which is insane) but I really enjoy these. Original, deeply imaginative, very crude and wickedly funny, I don't think they're like anything I've ever read. Perhaps the love child of a three way between Dashiell Hammett, Quentin Tarantino and Douglass Adams....

"... I strap on the body armor, which feels tough enough but closes with Velcro strips. I know this is state-of-the-art gear, but I'd feel more confident if it wasn't held together with the same stuff they use to fasten kids sneakers..."

I never thought that I could possibly like this book, but it was part of the book club at BookMarkPR and a friend motivated me.I really enjoyed it and will continue the series. Its like an adult paranormal fantasy book written in an urban style about a rebellion between heaven and hell.Love the antihero character and the use of sarcasm and irony in the story.I was laughing all over the book. I needed that. 3.3⭐️We had an interview with the author
I don't have any books #onthenightstand but here is the future hubby's. We have shelf behind the pillow in our bed and that's where he stashes most of his books since mine take up all of the other available book space in the house. Oops🤷#aprilbookshowers
Hellish #renegade Sandman Slim gets himself into some seriously bad situations. Fast paced, irreverent, sometimes ridiculous fun. #lyricalapril
I really wanted to like this one but it didn't grab me in the way I was hoping it would. Still it was an enjoyable read and there's still a chance the series could come around.
After thoroughly enjoying The Everything Box, I'm willing to give this series a try
When you get a restock of one of your favorite books. When asked to describe it all I need to say is imagine the humor of Die Hard the action of John Wick and the magic of Harry Potter.
Die Hard meets Harry Potter... Please do yourself a favor and read it!
This was vulgar and violent and tons of fun. Definitely on the noir end of things.
Full review over on Goodreads.
When something is blurbed as a "dirty-ass masterpiece", I'm all ready.
After reading this book, I was hooked on the writing style, subject matter and this author in general. He even friended me on FB. Hilarious, dark and human.
This is one hell of a messed up book! Fun, freaky and downright strange. If you like messed up freak shows of a story then is right up your alley. Lucky for me I have the next 4 in the series.
The first book in a series you will read again and again. Great characters, great premise and fantastic one liners.
