pickVery enjoyable. The set up at first seemed pretty generic but the characterization of the 3 estranged sisters & their trauma responses to their abusive upbringing & subsequent murder of their parents kept it interesting. Nice & twisty.
pickThis wasn‘t my favorite by this author. I usually love her books, but the varying points of view and the back and forth with time started to get me confused and I lost interest. I found this one hard to keep up with and it wasn‘t as suspenseful as her books normally are. I did like the story and the basis and it ended well, but it wasn‘t my favorite by her.
so-soThis was okay. I spent more time considering the characters guilt or innocence than following the specifics of the story. Daphne‘s story spoke too often about her adult weight gain which I thought was unnecessary and wished had been edited out.

pickTwisty, dark family secrets, sisters, past that keeps haunting. This book has a very strong setting but it does get a little dragged on in the middle. Nevertheless, it's unpredictable and not something you see coming. So 7/10
pickThree sister‘s parents were murdered one night, one sister was suspected, but never convicted. Years later, the suspected sister moves back to the childhood home where the crime was committed and pieces of that fateful evening start to connect from the shattered memories of all three sisters. This was a low pick for me. It was just kind of blah in plot and the ending somewhat confusing. 🫤
pickGreat thriller. Emma returns to her family's house years after she and her two sisters found their parents murdered there. The murder was never solved, and Emma's life has been haunted by suspicion from the police and the townspeople. Her sisters, Daphne & JJ, don't like Emma sniffing around and trying to solve the old mystery. I really liked the theme of estranged sisters still having a strong camaraderie when they meet after years of no contact.

Not as good as Marshall's What Lies in the Woods. This kept me engaged but the ending wasn't very satisfying, just chaotic and confusing. 😵💫
I never cared for any of the characters and most of them were pretty terrible. When you're not rooting for anyone do you really even care about the outcome? Meh.
so-soNothing mind blowing or particularly unique here. Nothing bad either, just middle of the road. As an audiobook with just one narrator it‘s kind of hard to keep track of all the characters and viewpoints and to be honest none of the characters seemed to really care what was happening or had happened in their pasts. The final twists was pretty interesting, though. If you like mysteries you might like this one. 🌟🌟🌟

pickThis is a good book. Three sisters dealing with a horrible past, forcibly coming together to piece it all together. I had guessed who the killer was early on BUT I changed it so many times because the book makes you change it over and over and over. I doubted myself. Two thrillers in a row, thrillers are on pause for me, for a while. 🥴
pickStarted off a bit slow and I wasn‘t too sure about it but man did it pick up and what a wild ride.
I was happy that my prediction was correct, even if I was way off on how it went down.
pan⭐️⭐️ Ugh. I don‘t know why I keep reading thrillers. There‘s never enough character development. Minus that blanket statement, this story wasn‘t even gripping. People very close to Emma were murdered but she showed zero emotion. No one did. So why should I care what happened?
pickI love a good dysfunctional family thriller and this family is dysfunctional AF! Marshall has some good layers here, leading to a couple of possible conclusions and while I did think I knew who did it pretty early on, she had me second guessing myself a lot. A good one to keep you turning the pages!

pick⭐️⭐️⭐️ Solid three stars. This is my second read by this author. I didn‘t enjoy as much as It Lies in the Woods, but I did enjoy it. It‘s a quick read, keeps you guessing. A nice “palette cleanser” thriller, as I like to call them. #botm

You may need a spreadsheet to keep track of all the characters and how they are connected to keep all the reveals that come at you at the end straight…but other than that this was a twisty thriller about coming home and dealing with the ghosts of your past. All I can say is this story has a lot more depth to it than what you first think and it will keep you guessing to the very end.
pickAn excellent family thriller that will keep you guessing til the very end. So many secrets, clues and misdirections, multiple POVS and timelines, and plenty of drama to make this a well plotted story. Loved the small town setting, the house itself (which felt like a character of its own), and the unreliable narrator to wrap everything into a thrilling ride.
Got a foot or so of snow so far. But it‘s the fluffy kind. Good day to make a pot of soup and finish up the tagged book. 🙂❄️📚
so-soIt‘s no secret, 50% of my reading time happens while waiting on my kids.
This book was a slow start and a fast finish. I enjoyed the time jumping and multiple viewpoints. But… I found myself skipping over large portions of text. I was still able to keep up with the story and understand it without reading big chunks of it. So that‘s always disappointing.
pickRich, bad parents are killed. Emma is one of the three daughters and the number one suspect. The 3 of them hated their parents!
Emma was a teenager then, now she‘s pregnant & married to Nate. The story flips from then to now and I swear I didn‘t see the ending coming!
Three murders. Multiple suspects that all looked guilty to me. LOL
Really enjoyed this ARC!

pickMarshall‘s second novel is another thrilling blend of past & present! Emma is the middle sister, though it‘s been years since she has seen either of her sisters in the wake of their parents‘ murder. Some twists are more surprising than others, but the story as it shifts through timelines & each sister‘s perspective is a gripping read from start to finish! And with it, I finished the #BOTM challenge in the nick of time! Can‘t wait for her next one!
pickCan you guess the ending? Probably, but you won‘t have all the details. Another great story by Kate Alice Marshall. Loved the dynamics between the sisters. Satisfied with the husband‘s outcome. I could see a sequel for this one and I‘d gladly pick up to hear more about these three sisters.
