Exquisite writing. Hard to read at times, the heartbreak of Astrid‘s critical childhood years in the foster system. But it is still a 5 star 🌟 book: I‘ll be thinking about this one for a long time ...

This was a very powerful and unforgettable story about a toxic relationship between a mother and daughter. It‘s actually a pretty sad book but once I started, I couldn‘t put it down. Wow! It‘s like a punch in the gut. 5-stars!

I am a little backed up on my reading. I am just now getting around to a book that @Wife sent me last October. Oh well, you know what they say, “better late than never“. I‘m sure I am going to enjoy it.

I missed this book when it was an Oprah pick in ‘99. One of the best books I‘ve read so far this year.
The writing is gorgeous, particularly the descriptions of California. Ingrid‘s poetry just seeps into the prose. As a character she‘s captivating- Narcissistic, manipulative and the world‘s most awful mother! It‘s a heartbreaking story of a her daughter‘s coming of age, in a foster system that repeatedly fails her.

This book was a nice surprise. I went into it knowing nothing except that it had been made into a movie that I hadn't seen. Thoroughly entertaining and full of strong women characters.

A few days late as it was tough thinking of a villainous character.

Ingrid Magnussen though not poorly written, her narcissistic personality definitely qualifies her as a villain. She is ferocious with her manipulation towards her daughter Astrid even while serving a prison sentence.

This beautifully written book passed me by when it was an Oprah pick in 1999. So I was pleased a friend picked it as a bookclub selection for next month.
The writing is so gorgeous, and Ingrid‘s poetry seeps into the prose. My only hesitation to recommend this would be the heaviness of the story. There really is so little lightness to balance this heartbreaking story of a young girl‘s coming of age, in a foster system that repeatedly fails her.

I‘ve usually got a stack of books by my basement door waiting to be taken down to the shelves we have down there. And with our laundry down there, I make multiple trips a day. But as much as I #trytoremember to take the books down with me, I never do. Now I‘ve just made the problem worse by putting a book basket by the door. 😂 At least they look cuter now and are more contained. #winterwonderland

Wow! The authors‘ poetic use of language; Characters that are so well developed they seem to individually leap off the page. The enigmatic villain I was secretly rooting for. This book was quite an experience.I didn‘t want to finish it too quickly, I wanted to enjoy the journey.

My sister and I were obsessed with this movie when we were kids. I didn't realise it was a book until recently, but of course I should have assumed! The book is just as good as the movie.

@Wife My husband and I were out of town and when our mail got delivered yesterday you could‘ve knocked me over with a feather. What a pleasant surprise! You are far too generous and everything you sent was absolutely perfect. I did not have any of the books although they were on my TBR and all the other little gifts were so special. I was like a kid on Christmas morning unpacking it. Really, ask my husband. Thanks again And, yes, I love Halloween.

I had seen the movie long ago, but only recently read the book. It was okay. I probably would have appreciated it more when I was younger.

After finishing my last audiobook, I want to listen to something I know that I love. This is a “keeper” and I have read it in print at least 3 times. #audiopuzzling

However, while I totally love hearing Oprah read (she can tell me a story any day!), it is an Abridged version!😠

Dear Scribd, Please mark abridged selections clearly! And start identifying the “expiring soon” selections. I do plan to let them know my thoughts, just venting here.

Loved the movie but never read the book until now. Just blown away. The entire book was like one epic heart breaking poem. Definitely will read again.

White Oleander is not something that I would normally pick up for myself, which is why I really enjoyed taking part in the Pop Sugar Challenge. The challenge made me reach outside my normal genres and find books that I ended up really enjoying, and some I really loved. This was one that will stick with me for a while. It was beautiful, sad, dark and very engrossing. Recommended 4.5🌟

As I began to write my review, I realized that this would also work for the #heyjune challenge #ifIfell . Ingrid is a poet, single mother and a free spirit. Her relationship with men is love them and leave them, until Barry. She allows herself to fall in love and the repercussions are devastating. Powerful story of a mother/daughter relationship. This was a reread for me after many years. I have not seen the movie.

This book was exhausting in the best way possible 😂 So close to giving this 5 stars but I hated the ending and felt it dragged in places ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
