@RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all! #IHaveQuestions

Spring - “The Eye of the World” by Robert Jordan. There is even a theme of rebirth throughout. @Branwen approves of this choice! 😁

Summer - “The Golem and The Jinni” by Helene Wecker. A perfect summer story of two strangers finding each other… except that an evil magician is hunting them!

Fall - “Clown in a Cornfield” by Adam Cesare.

Winter - “Winter Witch” by Elaine Cunningham.

RaeLovesToRead I think I have Clown in a Cornfield on my Kindle... 😅😅 2mo

@HappyLitsyversary informed me that it‘s my 6-year anniversary here! 🥳🎉📚 I am so grateful to be a part of Litsy and to interact with so many wonderful people on here! 😊 And a special thank you to @Branwen for convincing me to join Litsy! I‘m at work, but I just took an anniversary selfie with the book I‘m currently reading. Hopefully no one here thinks I‘m just reading at work all day… if so, I may find myself with a lot more reading time! 😳

The Sun Down Motel | Simone St. James
post image

“Come on in”, the building seemed to say with its blue and yellow neon cheeriness. “Get some sleep. Take it easy until the sun comes up again. And if you see someone sitting at the end of your bed, pay them no mind. That‘s just one of my secrets. And I‘m not going to tell.”

On the surface, walking into a room and seeing a ghost sounds terrifying, but if all it does is appear here and there, I guess that‘s not so bad! 🤷🏻‍♂️👻

Thank you for this #WondrousWednesday @Eggs 😀

🌹 I love a good space opera, so I‘ve been meaning to read Lois McMaster Bujold. Other authors who I have yet to read include Grady Hendrix, Riley Sager, and Samantha Shannon.

🌼 “The Black Echo” by Michael Connelly. I know people who swear by this series, but I found myself bored and thinking about other books I could be reading instead.

🌺 Tagged! The book that made me a bibliophile for life!

dabbe That's my all-time Christie fave! 🤩🤩🤩 5mo
RaeLovesToRead Samantha Shannon 🥰 I also have Hendrix and Sager on my TBR (and physical shelf) (shelves). 5mo

In honor of #Pride #LoveIsLove for today‘s #tuesdaytunes , I pick “Fever” by Judas Priest. Rob Halford, the singer for JP, officially came out as gay during an interview in 1998, and has since been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights. While Judas Priest is best known for “Breaking The Law”, the tender song “Fever” addresses Rob‘s journey, from feeling trapped in a false identity:
“Like I was in a cell, a captured heart as well”

(More in comments)

DaveGreen7777 Then Rob describes finding true love: “Then one night as I walked, I heard your body talk, I saw a shooting star. In some magnetic trance, our beating hearts would dance, and crash down from afar.” (edited) 5mo
DaveGreen7777 Finally, the song ends with Rob spending his life with his soulmate: “Oh, so close together, we were like angels in the night. Living the dream, at last I‘ll be with you forever, and all at once it feels so right.” 5mo
DaveGreen7777 Judas Priest isn‘t known for having many ballads, but this song is truly heartwarming, especially since after writing it, Rob has been together with his husband for over 25 years! A beautiful story of a person finding love after learning to love himself for who he really is! 😊🌈 🏳️‍🌈 5mo

@TieDyeDude #TuesdayTunes

As a child of the 80‘s, I grew up on hair metal. But there was one song that 14-year-old David Green found so offensive, he would fast forward past it whenever listening to his Poison cassette. That song was “I Want Action”. It‘s not the bland guitars or ripped off vocal harmonies I hate so much, I refuse to listen to this song because of one lyric:
“If I can‘t have her, I‘ll take her and make her.”

That‘s messed up! 😳

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView and thanks for the tag @MaGoose

1. Multiple people have declared I‘m a dog whisperer. Even dogs that are normally standoffish are comfortable around me, and I‘ve been to parties where a dog decides I‘m their new best friend! 🐶

2. Tagged. The main heroine is a hypochondriac who discovers she can project her fears into others and uses this ability to stop crimes. It‘s a bizarre book but entertaining!

TheSpineView Dog whisperer is a great talent. Thanks for playing 6mo
RaeLovesToRead Dogs are all ambivalent to me. They sense (correctly) that I am a cat person and look at me with 😐 expression, haha 6mo
jen_the_scribe My husband has this talent too! Even though he is technically a cat person lol. Dogs love him. I was shocked when we were dating and he met my sister‘s dog (who always hated men because he had been abused), and the dog just adored him. 6mo

jen_the_scribe @RaeLovesToRead It‘s funny to me how cats are the opposite to dogs in that way… if they sense someone doesn‘t like cats, they‘re all over them lol 6mo

DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Cats have the same reaction to me that dogs do to you. When I meet cats, they barely register that I‘m even alive! 😂 If a cat ever learned how to shrug their shoulders, I‘m sure it would be a direct result of meeting me. 6mo

“Most of those old businesses are gone but the Sun Down is still there.”
“They say it‘s haunted,” Heather said.
“Really?” I asked in surprise.
“Well, sure,” Heather said. “Isn‘t every hotel haunted since The Shining? People have probably died there, I bet.”

While I certainly appreciate the Shining reference, I can‘t help but worry that Heather is being a little too casual about the possibility of the Sun Down being haunted! 😳👻

AnnCrystal 👏👻👍. I'm the wacky kind, I find haunted places enticing! 6mo
DaveGreen7777 @AnnCrystal I agree! I always wanted to explore a haunted place, I think it‘s because I grew up watching way too much Scooby Doo! 😂👻 6mo
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 me too!😂. Scooby Doo made it seem like a fun possibility. Been awhile 📺.

I've always been really crazy interested about the paranormal.

While I believe ghost are everywhere, there is something about known haunted places, about the extra activities. Perhaps, because a place is known for being haunted, people are more open to paying attention to those activities? Or is it really the “place“ giving more energy for those activities?

4 out of 5 scary carnivals for “Tastes Like Candy” by Ivy Tholen 🎡🎡🎡🎡

Reading “Tastes Like Candy” is a lot like actually eating candy… it‘s not the most nutritious thing you can feed your mind, but it sure is a lot of fun! A group of friends sneak into the Poison Apple Carnival on a scavenger hunt, only to be hunted themselves by a masked killer. A standard setup, but enhanced by the cast getting deeper characterization and witty dialogue.

4 out of 5 murder clowns for “Clown in a Cornfield”! 🤡🤡🤡🤡

I wanted a fun cheesy horror novel, and that‘s exactly what I got. Creepy atmosphere, amusing characters, and enough twists to surprise me even when I thought I figured it all out.

The story is not the deepest and the attempts at social commentary are a little too clunky to be taken seriously, but even if the story itself won‘t stick with me afterwards, the fun I had reading it will!

@RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all!

🌒 It‘s hard to pick a scariest, but the first book that freaked me out was the graphic novel “Batman: Gothic” by Grant Morrison. It features a serial killer with no shadow, a haunted monastery, and even a jump scare when a ghost showed up on one page! 👻

🌒 I love horror! Not a big gorehound, but I like anything haunting and creepy! 😱

🌒 Tagged! A fun gothic dark fantasy! 🥀

#IHaveQuestions

RaeLovesToRead Wow! A jump scare in a graphic novel! 😱 13mo
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead I read the original comic books when I was much younger and new to horror… which is why I made the rookie mistake of reading them at 2 in the morning! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Freaked me out when I turned the page and there was a bizarre ghost face staring at me! 😱👻 13mo
RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 The one time I literally jumped back from a comic was when I read the first Preacher volume and there was a TWO PAGE spread of a TORN OFF FACE 😳 I actually sold volume 2 before I read it 😅 Can't deal with Garth Ennis 13mo
See All 6 Comments
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Yeah, I‘ve read some Garth Ennis, so I understand! 😳 What annoys me about him is when he tries, he can really tell a compelling story (like most of his Punisher MAX series), but too often he just falls back on potty humor and shock value! 🤦🏻‍♂️ It may be a hit show now, but I gave up reading The Boys by him when his writing devolved into that of a teenage boy who thinks anything vulgar is automatically funny! 🤮 13mo
RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 I've been warned that I won't like The Boys (TV show) so I shall avoid 😵 I swear I'm getting more sensitive not less 😅 13mo

1. Toss up between “Airplane” and “The Naked Gun” by the same filmmakers. The madcap 20-jokes-a-minute pace always makes me laugh and they still hold up decades later.

2. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”. Overall I really liked it. It was a little too somber for me at times, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge brought some much needed levity to it!

DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Hee hee, “Dial of Destiny” does indeed exist, it‘s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” that I pretend never happened! 😂 14mo
RaeLovesToRead I enjoyed Crystal Skull in the cinema, but maybe I was young and foolish? ? Dial of Destiny sounds like Harrison Ford has given up and started starring in phone adverts... or maybe he's just Lara Crofting the early 90s... @RaeLovesToRead #IHaveQuestions
For 10 books to save I decided no cheating, I can‘t save my Kindle, only books I own in physical format. “Good Omens”, “Mistborn”, Talisman” and “Killing Moon” are favorites; “Storm Front”, “Eye of the World”, and “Magic Bites” are the start of some favorite series. “Priory” and “Green Rider” I need to read and will now have more time. And “Sojourn” I‘m keeping for sentimental reasons… @Branwen knows what I mean!😁

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great books! The Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews, and NK Jemisin are great. So tough to just pick 1 of a series though. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa But yes… I‘d probably have to cheat, grab my kindle and a solar charger of sone kind 😂 2y
5feet.of.fury The Talisman is probably my favorite book of all time. I cannot wait to see it as a series. 2y

#IHaveQuestions

@RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all! 🤔

Even at an early age I loved Sherlock Holmes mysteries, so I‘d go with Sherlock, Dr. Watson, and Irene Adler. For the entertainment, I would leave a bunch of fake clues around so every time Holmes used one to make a deduction about me, I could tell him, “That‘s not even close! You were way off!” Holmes wouldn‘t be amused, but I‘m sure Watson and Adler will enjoy watching Holmes suffer!😂

RaeLovesToRead Hahaha, Sherlock picks up PlayStation Controller... "I suspect we are looking for a gamer, Watson..." *looks at bookshelf* "a gamer who likes Brandon Sanderson ? 2y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead That‘s one of the ways I‘ll get Sherlock, I‘ll leave an Xbox controller around, and when he deduces I‘m an Xbox player I‘ll say, “No, I‘m a PlayStation player, I don‘t even own an Xbox! You‘re really bad at this, Mr. Holmes!” 🤣 2y
RaeLovesToRead Haha. "An xbox controller without a console, Watson? I think we may be being trolled. I call shenanigans. Also, when does takeaway arrive?" ?? 2y

#IHaveQuestions
Paging all Littens, @RaeLovesToRead has questions!

1. Tagged! It takes a story from Russian mythology and weaves it into a historical fiction with high fantasy elements threaded in. 🤩

2. I‘ve read cyberpunk and steampunk, but has a book ever combined both genres? Cybersteampunk should be a thing! 🤔

3. Nonfiction romance… wait, that makes it sound like I‘m opposed to real-life love! Now I have questions about myself! 😳

RaeLovesToRead I agree... DOWN WITH LOVE!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I would totally love cybersteampunk... maybe in a Western setting instead of Victorian aesthetic... *imagining Clint Eastwood with a technological Invisibility poncho infiltrating an airship base* (*with cogs*) 2y
DaveGreen7777 Clint Eastwood in a technological invisibility poncho… NOW I NEED THIS BOOK!!! 🤯 2y
RaeLovesToRead I'll add it to the list of "books I'm pretending to write" ? 2y

#IHaveQuestions
@RaeLovesToRead coming at us with the tough questions today! 🤔

1. Tagged! This book committed one of the worst sins for me… it was boring! Loooooong stretches of nothing interesting happening. Add to that shock value just for the sake of shock value, and a terrible ending.
2. As beloved as it is, I can‘t bring myself to read “A Storm of Swords” by GRRM. I don‘t want to continue a series that I suspect will never be completed! 😔

RaeLovesToRead I feel your pain on 2!!!! One of my favourite series' of all time and so much emotional investment ??? I can't blame GRRM though. He'll post something like "Happy Birthday to my lovely wife" on social media and all he'll get back is WRITE THE NEXT BOOK YOU #@$ &%^€¥!!!" ? 2y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Hee hee, I never thought of it like that… maybe Martin was all set to finish Winds of Winter, but when everyone kept demanding he get back to it, he folded his arms and said, “Well, now I don‘t WANT to write it anymore!!!” 🤣🤣🤣 (edited) 2y
RaeLovesToRead He's probably finished it all and is sat back on a deckchair sipping a cocktail and smiling to himself 😄 2y
See All 12 Comments
BiblioLitten Omg the visual imagery is too much 🤣🤣 2y
Branwen @RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 Georgie needs to get his butt in gear and finish that series! 😭 You are smart Dave, to have stopped reading when you did! I'm in the same boat as Rae... it's one of my favorite fantasy series and it's absolute torture to have to keep waiting! 😵‍💫🫠 2y
DaveGreen7777 @Branwen I still wonder if GRRM was originally going to end the books the same way as the Game of Thrones show did, and after he saw how dissatisfied everyone was with the show ending, he burned the original draft of Winds of Winter and started all over?!? 🤔 2y
Branwen @DaveGreen7777 I will cry so many tears of that's the case! 😭 I mean, the ending to the TV show was atrocious! But if he has to start all over we're probably looking at another decade before we see the next book! 😂🫠 2y
DaveGreen7777 @Branwen We may still get to see the next book… if George RR Martin lives to be 135 years old! 😳 2y
DogMomIrene I‘m with you too Dave. I read the first 2, maybe 3 books years ago. Can‘t even remember, but I stopped for the same reason. I‘m also waiting for Patrick Rothfuss to finish his Kvothe trilogy. I‘ll never be the person who‘s abusive to an author, but I‘m also like, pleeeeeeaaase finish! 2y
DaveGreen7777 @DogMomIrene These authors don‘t realize what they‘re doing to us by not continuing these series! Or maybe they do but they just don‘t care! 😩 2y

Thanks for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView and thank you for the tag @RaeLovesToRead 😀

1. Lying Cat from the “Saga” series. Who knew a cat that only says one word could add so much poignancy to a story?! 🙀

2. I appreciate a strong supporting character, but sometimes they can hurt a story if they overshadow the lead. In the tagged book I was more interested in supporting character Snow and didn‘t enjoy the parts when she wasn‘t around as much.

Nute I have missed these type of humorous post from you, Dave! The shirt is fantastic and desperately needed so that I don‘t have to explain my lifestyle preference, ‘I‘d rather be reading!‘😁 3y
DaveGreen7777 @Nute Awww, thank you for the kind words! 😊 3y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Love it 😍 where did you get it? 2y
DaveGreen7777 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thanks, Misty! 😀 I actually got it online when I did a search for reading related shirts! 😁 2y

“Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world. A new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. No father could claim the gratitude of his child so completely as I should deserve theirs.”

YIKES! I knew going into this that Dr. Frankenstein had a God complex, but I didn‘t realize to what extent! 😱

4 out of five wind sprites! 🧚🏻‍♀️🧚🏻‍♀️🧚🏻‍♀️🧚🏻‍♀️

It‘s a few days since I finished this buddy read with the wonderful @Branwen and I‘m still processing my feelings. While I enjoyed the book, it is my least favorite of the series so far, as I felt the heroes stories went in unsatisfying directions. But while the protagonists got short-changed, the villains shined brighter than ever, thanks to the introduction of the fascinating Raboniel!

Elizabeth2 Haha! Love this photo! 😆 3y
RaeLovesToRead 🤣🤣🤣 this picture made me laugh! Good review. 3y

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView 😀

I just realized I still haven‘t posted a review of this book! 😳

1. Raboniel. She‘s everything a book villain should be: charismatic, clever, formidable, and usually at least three steps ahead of the heroes. She‘s so good at being bad, I almost started rooting for her!

2. I‘d like to see the main characters all get happy endings, but since it will be a Sanderson book, that ain‘t happening! 😭

RaeLovesToRead I also kinda loved Raboniel 😄 3y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead She was glorious! 🤩 3y
Branwen I'm dying for a happy ending for everyone! 🙊🤞 3y

DaveGreen7777 @Branwen We can dream, right?! 😂🤣 3y
TheSpineView I have been putting off reading this since it came out. I need to move it up my TBR list! 3y
DaveGreen7777 @TheSpineView Oooh, hope you like this book when you get to read it! 👍 3y

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView 😌

1️⃣ Tagged! It can put a lot of pressure on a character to have the whole book named after her, but fortunately Moroda was up to the task!

2️⃣ Hmmm… good question! 🤔 I think usually longer book titles catch my eye more, but there is something admirable about a book that can grab your attention with just one word, like “It” or “Deathless”!

TheSpineView Thanks for playing and happy Tuesday! 3y

Thank you for this #WondrousWednesday @Eggs 😊

1. Multiple POVs. I love getting different characters perspectives on things, especially if their points of view on events in the book are different from one another.

2. I can only read in English.

3. I‘m a mood reader… but that doesn‘t stop me from making numerous reading lists that I never adhere to! 😂🤣

Alfoster Seriously! Why do we make those lists??😝 3y
merelybookish The pleasure is definitely in the making of the list! 3y
Eggs Crossing things off the list is so satisfying 👌🏼 Thanks for playing ❣️ 3y

DaveGreen7777 @Alfoster I think it‘s the same reason why we buy a book when it first comes out and then not get around to reading it for 10 years! 😂🤣 3y
Branwen I do the SAME exact thing with book lists! 🤣😂 3y
DaveGreen7777 @Branwen All great minds, am I right?! 😁 3y

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. I‘m hoping to finish both the tagged book and “Frankenstein” this month! I only have 50 pages left in Rhythm of War!

2. As someone who reads a lot of fantasy, I am so sick of everything being described as smelling of “jasmine”! C‘mon, fantasy authors, there are other scents out there! Also, like many readers, I‘m so sick of characters releasing breaths they didn‘t know they were holding! 🤦🏻‍♂️

RaeLovesToRead 50 pages?! You can do it, Dave! I believe in you! 😄😁 There was an interesting passage about Jasmine in the book I'm reading - I'll tag you... 3y
TheSpineView I have been putting off Rhythm of War since it came out. It is such a HUGE commitment and my hat is off to you for finishing it! 3y
Branwen I TOTALLY AGREE about the breath releasing thing! I always roll my eyes so hard when I come across it in a book! 😂 3y

To honor Sharon, I‘ll be reading Frankenstein, a book she had listed as one of her Fall Favorites. Rest In Peace and fly with the angels, Sharon!

Thank you for this #WondrousWednesday @Eggs 😊

1. “Starless Sea” by Erin Morgenstern, which I recently received from the wonderful @Branwen

2. “Eon” by Alison Goodman, which I recently gifted to the wonderful @Branwen

3. Tagged! In this alternate history, Jean Grey disguises herself as a man to sneak on a ship, and Angel finds himself falling in love with her.
(More in comments).

DaveGreen7777 Later when Angel learns Jean is really a woman, he reflects on how he loved her just the same when he thought she was a man. It was such a beautiful portrayal of everlasting love, as well as representation of LGBTQIA themes at a time when graphic novels almost never included them. 🌈 (edited) 3y
Branwen YAY! I hope you end up loving The Starless Sea as much as I do! 😃💕📚 I devoured both Eon and Eona and THEY WERE BOTH SO GOOD! 3y
Eggs 💖 Erin Morgenstern 💝 3y
