The Bromance Book Club
The Bromance Book Club | Lyssa Kay Adams
The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club. Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He's recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it's the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he's let his pride and fear get the better of him. Welcome to the Bromance Book Club. Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.

Loved! I always enjoy romance novels when the characters have real issues keeping them apart, not just silly misunderstandings. This was a refreshing twist on the “marriage of convenience” trope... the main couple have already been married for years before he woos her! And the commentary on romance novels was excellent. I‘d love to see this on scene, but instead I‘ll just eagerly await the next book in the series! #romantsy

Thanks to this romance novel for really making me think about my own parents' divorce, I guess.
(Plus, sometimes you just want a passell of fictional dudes pushing back against toxic masculinity.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Down right adorable, I loved this and I loved Mack the most. Mack is my favorite character and I believe everyone should have a friend like him. Gavin and his wife‘s story was good and I loved it, but I looked forward more to the wit between Mack and Gavin. This book is a cute romance about a man swooning is wife all over again after learning she fakes it. This book is a cute telling of a man learning about women through romance books.

Liatrek Nice review! I‘ve been debating about getting this one but you sold me 😊 2w
Mrsgarrisonreads @Liatrek yay 🙌🏻 I hope you love it. It was so adorable and romantic 2w
Carleneishere The second book will be about Mack and Liv! 😻 2w

3.5/5⭐️

I really wanted to like this one more than I did.

The premise is such a cute, original idea and had the potential to be both hilarious and heartwarming. A MLB player, married for 3 years with twins, discovers that his wife has been keeping a big secret from him (I won‘t give it away) and suddenly his seemingly “perfect” life is upended. She kicks him out, he wants her back. Enter his teammates, who introduce him into the ⬇️⬇️

robinb Bromance Book Club, their romance book club dedicated to helping them navigate their love lives by gleaning advice/wisdom from fictional books.

While it has its moments of hilarity and heart tugs, I just didn‘t connect well with the H/h and felt parts were a bit cheesy and more along the lines of an outrageous rom-com movie script. Both characters had some emotional baggage that I felt was hurried through and wrapped up a bit too easily. ⬇️⬇️

robinb Not a bad book, others may love...just not great for me.

Thanks to #Goodreads and #PenquinRandomHouse for the ARC.

Jas16 That‘s disappointing. I had high hopes for this one. 3w
robinb @Jas16 Jennifer, you might enjoy it more than I did...there are mixed reviews on it. I didn‘t hate it, just had hoped for something more. 3w

4/5

This is a super sweet, fun romance. Gavin and Thea's marriage is in trouble and he's willing to go to any length to save it, including joining a romance book club. I liked the different perspective of this book, about repairing a relationship instead of building a new relationship. The book was really sweet, and I enjoyed the historical romance chapters interspersed throughout.

This book had so much potential! The premise of an all-male athlete secret book club reading romance novels and helping each other with their relationships is so fun but the execution was blah. None of the characters, not even our leads, ever felt like more than a caricature and I found the dialogue super unrealistic to the point of taking me out of the story.

ShyBookOwl Awww. That's too bad. 3mo

May has been a busy month & I haven't read nearly as much as I would like but a head cold has me slowing down a bit. I guess the bonus is Yay! Forced reading time.

LibrarianRyan I saw this in netball. It looks interesting. 6mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @LibrarianRyan I'm halfway in and the book club bits are more entertaining than the relationship bits, which are plentiful. Not bad, but IMO the issues feel blown out of proportion. 6mo

Oh my gosh, I loved this book so much! Everything about this was the perfect mix of realism, escapism, romance, humour....I just adored this! I‘ve recommended it to everyone and I‘m hoping there‘s a second book featuring the other two. Also, I‘m living this trend of baseball players as romantic leads!
