The Duchess Deal: Girl Meets Duke | Tessa Dare
168 posts | 143 read | 1 reading | 50 to read
When girl meets Duke, their marriage breaks all the rules Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashburys to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London neer-do-wells by night. Now theres a new item on the list. He needs an heirwhich means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicars daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that shell do. His terms are simple: - They will be husband and wife by night only. - No lights, no kissing. - No questions about his battle scars. - Last, and most importantly Once shes pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again. But Emma is no pushover. She has a few rules of her own: - They will have dinner together every evening. - With conversation. - And unlimited teasing. - Last, and most importantly Once shes seen the man beneath the scars, he cant stop her from falling in love

Diving into the world of romance. Not sure why it‘s always been out of my comfort zone, but newly divorced, new life, new woman, feels like the time to try everything out and see what I like.

This didn‘t have the strongest start but made up for it later. I worried this was a scarred hero who needed to be saved by the love of a good woman, which is not my favorite romance trope, but it was better than that.

Emma is a seamstress, Ash is a duke. For various bad reasons they embark on a marriage of convenience but manage to fall in love along the way. Nicely steamy.

Finished this book on a Sunday which seems fitting since this was about a Vicars daughter 😏 I knew it was going to be a good one if the author has to warn her dad about this many chapters... Bring on the steamy love scenes! But seriously, it was a great, simple, Beauty and the Beastesq story that warms your heart. If you need a little bit of uncomplicated love in your life, read this! 🥰♥️ #romance #steamy

Yay for #romantsy! I loved the historical romance panel at #BookCon2019 that @Beachesnbooks and I went to, moderated by Sarah MacLean. It was called Suffragettes, Sex Positivity, and Smashing the Patriarchy: Historical Romance as a Powerful Political Text. Not only did I also get to see the fabulous Tessa Dare on the panel, I saw several authors whose books I now want to read💞

One of my favorite romance tropes has to be the marriage of convenience that slowly becomes something more. This book has that in spades, along with a take on Beauty and the Beast that I really enjoyed. On the whole this book was both delightful and funny, and the perfect escape.

A historical romance with very little historical accuracy that is nonetheless a marvelously entertaining love story, especially if you enjoy a Beauty and the Beast vibe.

A scarred hero jilted by his fiancée needs an heir and a disgraced vicar‘s daughter working as a seamstress needs payment for her work. A marriage of convenience seems the obvious solution.

I loved their verbal sparring. Lots of laugh out loud moments.

A fun romp, the theme of this book and the Georgette Heyer book is the same. Titled soldier, wounded in the Napoleonic Wars, needs a wife and enters into a marriage of convenience. The similarities end there. This book has a more modern heroine and a lot of sexy times 🔥🔥🔥. Also a lot of fun Shakespeare an swearing. A fun , frivolous historical #romantsy 💚

This was my first Tessa Dare and I have to say, I completely adored it. These characters are so funny and sweet and the tone of the book is so light. I listened to this one and I really think that was about 50% of why I liked it so much. The reader does such an amazing job with the main characters voice and inflection, it was hard not to fall in love. I'm already into another of her books on audio that I wish I loved as much as this.

This lady can write. 😍 She is consistently good and fills her writing with laugh-out-loud humor, heart-wrenching emotion and characters to cheer for...with some really great lines for highlighting. 😉This story combined the rags-to-riches trope (for Emma), the tortured (scarred) trope (for Ash) and the overcoming-broken-hearts trope (for both). And it all came together perfectly. All the ⭐️s. #romantsy❤️

DGRachel This was my first Tessa Dare and I love her! I binge read everything I could get my hands on after this one!! 2y
robinb @DGRachel She‘s just soooo good, isn‘t she?! 😍 I did the same when I first found her years ago. As far as historical romances go, she and Grace Burrowes make me laugh harder than anyone else does. And humor is a MUST for me. 2y

DGRachel Do you have a recommended starting point? 2y
robinb @DGRachel Burrowes is prolific (currently 75+), and she writes fast. Most of hers are series, and I definitely recommend reading those in order. My favorite series is actually her first...the Windhams (8 siblings, first is tagged), but ALL of her books are worth a read! She‘s wonderful! Haven‘t tried her contemporaries yet, I prefer historicals. Please let me know what you think...I‘m excited for you to try her! 😊 2y
DGRachel I think that‘s the one I bought today! I need a good book with a HEA - my dog is at the ER vet and I‘m freaking out waiting. Yay for Kindle app on my phone. 2y
robinb @DGRachel YAY! It‘s been awhile since I read that series (I just noticed I haven‘t reviewed it here on Litsy)...I feel like a re-read is in order. 😉 I have a weakness for family series (Quinn‘s Bridgertons, Long‘s Everseas & Redmonds), etc. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hope your fur baby is OK! 2y
