A drop in temps calls for a mug of hot cocoa and this month's #PersephonePick. So far, this book is completely charming and I'm taking my sweet time to savor it. #CurrentlyReading #PersephoneBooks

I was charmed and amused by Patience but I didn‘t really care for her. Her naivety felt cartoonish & I‘m not sure if that was because this book was written in the 1950‘s, or because the author is a male. I very much appreciated the English humor and I just delighted in reading a Persephone novel. Thank you @BarbaraBB for such a beautiful gift 💝
I‘m enjoying this book very much 💗Patience has me laughing at loud/ always a good sign 😁Thanks for this beauty @BarbaraBB
Thank you SO MUCH @BarbaraBB My #FirstPersephone 🎊🥰♥️It‘s absolutely stunning and I see it‘s beloved by so many Littens....can‘t wait to read😁While I‘m grateful for this awesome gift, I‘m even more humbled by your generosity. I appreciate our friendship in so many ways.
Patience is delightfully naive, and her innocence is what makes her complacent in her marriage. That is until she is enlighted by Philip and the pleasure he brings her, and then Patience awakes. She awakes to a world of Sin, love and doubts about her Catholic upbringing. And she doesn‘t shy away from any of it, but confronts them and finds her inner “bitch”.
Patience is a great book, lighthearted and fun, and great company in these times ❤️
When your new read fits your mood 🧘♀️
I have wanted to read this ever since @emilyhaldi raved about it some time ago, and now feels like the right time for it 🤞
#currentlyreading
I read this for #newyearwhodis but I didn‘t love it like @emilyhaldi did.
I can understand the comparisons to The Awakening, but ultimately Patience‘s silliness didn‘t translate for me completely. I think it was a good literary device and reminiscent of media from that time, but it got stale for me. Still a good book, but won‘t rank among my favorites from #persephone.
I got three separate book packages today!
Patience for #newyearwhodis
#botm
and my Book Outlet haul.
I thought I signed up for #newyearwhodis but unfortunately I didn‘t submit the form. It ended up working out for the best, because I was able to convince @emilyhaldi to be my partner. She sent me her list and I am SO excited. Obviously I placed a book order as soon as she sent it to me.
Is anyone shocked to see Patience as number 1. 🤣
My Christmas #bookhaul. A few will have to be exchanged for other books, but overall, I‘m super happy! And I even got my first #Persephone book 🙌🙌
Great idea @monalyisha and thanks for the tag @kspenmoll 🙌
I‘m not in a book club, and some days I wish I were, while other days make me glad I‘m not 😅 However, if I got to decide the reading list for a book club for a year, this would be my list. All of them are super high on my tbr, and I‘m thinking a mix of different things is the way to go
#MyIdealBookClub
I actually surprised myself with my #top6reads of 2019! Patience comes in at an easy #1 ❤️ but I certainly didn‘t expect that A Mother‘s Reckoning or Mice & Men would be favorites when I first decided to pick them up. Fun idea! @Cinfhen and thanks for the tag 😊 @BarbaraBB

The shameful evidence of a bout of #DrunkPersephoneing. 😆😆 @saresmoore
Look, @emilyhaldi ! Patience has arrived. 👍🏻

‘Patience. A proper girl, improperly in love‘
Patience is a devout Roman Catholic, trying to live a life without Sin. She‘s married to Edward, but then she meets Philip, falls in love and Sin becomes suddenly all she‘s ever wanted. Coates (a man!) writes tenderly and with humor of Patience‘s discovery of love and sexuality and of her losing her innocence and naivity.
#AllMyLove for this book ❤️❤️. #AnglophileApril

‘As the door shut behind him Patience knelt down and waited to be sick. And she couldn‘t, as usual, help thinking that if Catholic women weren‘t on their knees for one reason, they were probably on them for another‘
Thanks @emilyhaldi for bringing this gem to my attention 💜
Yesterday was a day. Today was a day. And now I‘m a day behind on #AnglophileApril, so let‘s catch up!
My bank account would be a #SuperMassiveBlackHole, if I bought all the books I want to. The ones above are some of the books highest on my wish list, but as I‘m still trying to keep my book buying ban, I‘ll have to leave them in my online basket for a while longer. 💸💸💸
#blameitonlitsy or should I say #blameitonemily .... Book Depository had a copy! After reading your review I cannot wait to read this! @emilyhaldi 💕😊
Ok, I have held off on writing this review for a while because I can‘t do this book justice. Patience is 28 and in her 7th year of marriage to Edward when she finds out he has been cheating. Instead of feeling mad or betrayed, Patience can only wonder why any woman would willingly sleep with any man if she doesn‘t have to! (For pleasure?! What‘s that!) and then she meets Philip and discovers that her marriage has been a void 👇🏻
