A Map of Days: The Fourth Novel of Miss Peregrines Peculiar Children
A Map of Days: The Fourth Novel of Miss Peregrines Peculiar Children | Ransom Riggs
Having defeated the monstrous threat that nearly destroyed the peculiar world, Jacob Portman is back where his story began, in Florida. Except now Miss Peregrine, Emma, and their peculiar friends are with him, and doing their best to blend in. But carefree days of beach visits and normalling lessons are soon interrupted by a discovery-a subterranean bunker that belonged to Jacob's grandfather, Abe. Clues to Abe's double-life as a peculiar operative start to emerge, secrets long hidden in plain sight. And Jacob begins to learn about the dangerous legacy he has inherited-truths that were part of him long before he walked into Miss Peregrine's time loop. Now, the stakes are higher than ever as Jacob and his friends are thrust into the untamed landscape of American peculiardom-a world with few ymbrynes, or rules-that none of them understand. New wonders, and dangers, await in this brilliant next chapter for Miss Peregrine's peculiar children. Their story is again fully illustrated by haunting vintage photographs, but with a striking addition for this all-new, multi-era American adventure-full color.

I‘ve been enjoying swiping through everyone‘s #readingbracket2024 this year and finally thought to sit and make mine! Hahaha so far, Fredrick Backman‘s beautiful short novel on memory and loss is pitted against The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, although a Map of Days and Kristin Hannah‘s The Four Winds were pretty fantastic these past couple months as well! I didn‘t realize how tricky this would be to fill!

It‘s strange, what the mind can digest and what it resists. I had just survived the most surreal summer imaginable- skipping back to bygone centuries, taming invisible monsters, falling in love with my grandfather‘s time-arrested ex-girlfriend—but only now, in the unexceptional present, in suburban Florida, in the house I‘d grown up in, was I finding it hard to believe my eyes.

This book was a long one but so good. The middle of the boom drug on a little bit but the last half of the book I could barely put it down. This series is really great if you love unusual stories with a little b it of excitement. On to the fifth book!

This was an outstanding continuation of the original story. It was a little slow in the beginning, but as I got further along in the story it really started to pick up. The ending is what really surprised me. I can‘t wait to see what happens in the next book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love this series lol. It‘s been a while since I read the first three books, but this fourth book was excellent. It starts a bring new adventure with Jacob and the peculiar children but this time in America. Very fast paced and deals with many social issues in the U.S. The was my January #doublespin No. 15 pick and fits #almostachunksterchallenge at 480 pages lol.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I've had the first book on my TBR for so long that it wasn't actually a series when I added it 😂 3y
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks that‘s a riot 😂 I always praised the first three books. I‘ve had 4, 5, and 6 on my TBR for a number of years now. Now since I‘ve finished 4, the goal is to read 5 and 6 without delay but let‘s see how I do 😆 3y

The first hundred pages are really just review in a weird Harry Potter-esque way- pretty unnecessary by my count. Things start humming along though as Riggs gains his stride and introduces us to the American Peculiars and, not to spoil, makes me want to read the next two books. I certainly think he is priming these next installments for a Miss P sequel which takes the shine off a bit, but the movie like writing is also part of it‘s charm.

Yet another magical and exciting adventure! Quite the cliffhanger though so I‘m glad that I can immediately continue the journey with the fifth book, a conference of birds. Riggs seems to cram so much adventure into his books that I often forget that the time frame of all of these books is still only a year or so. Fantastic writing with so many twists and turns. I really enjoy this series! (Completed 9th Jan 2021)

Lacey.shanel So true! I often forget while reading one of the books that the time span of the events has only been a few days but so much has happened it feels like it has to be longer. 2y

It was a wonderful peculiar journey with Jacob and friends. However as he try to emulate his grandfather more, it felt like he tried too hard thus leading it to another book it seems. Well overall an entertaining one for sure

Read from 5/11-5/15
Although this book, so far, has been the biggest, it flowed well and there was quite a bit of action once you got to the middle. I didn't get bored. It ended on a note that obviously left room for continued adventures. I'd give it 3.5 star. I will take a break before continuing with A Conference of The Birds.

Excellent continuation of the series! Constant action, vibrant & entertaining characters, & the most magical concept. I'm pretty sure I won't ever tire of this magical world & I will read anything that Ransom Riggs chooses to write. I will admit that the ending is a serious cliffhanger & I'm glad I can pick up the next installment soon, but it's still so incredibly good that I really wouldn't be that mad if it wasn't already available. LOVE!

I guess some series will end up having a clunker and this one was it. I didn't like the premise, even if I saw it coming, but it picked up a bit at the end. We get back to whiny Jacob, but finding about the American syndicates was interesting. So far, my least favorite one.

Just finished this gem! I have loved the series and am hoping the ending of this one means we‘re headed for number 5!! The use of pictures is so clever and in many cases, super creepy. The time loops and peculiar abilities are so fascinating - it would be super cool if they were real. I also always wished they would have made more films as I thought the first one was great.

The Map of Days by Ransom Riggs is fast paced adventure book following the story of Jacob and his peculiar friends after his mission to rid Europe of the age old enemy, the Hollowghast. Upon meeting a old partner of his grandfather‘s and a network of peculiar clans Jacob and his friends must stagger through rough neighbourhoods, unfriendly strangers, and stalking black SUVs.

Jager Sounds like a good book 5y
MissYaremcio Great review Tristan! I still haven't read any of the Miss Peregrine's series, but they sound like I could possibly enjoy them? I'm not a fan of scary things... Anyways, make sure for the next review that you include all elements of the assignment (you were missing the recommendation and the pacing)! 5y

Today‘s Prompt

Green Grass:pick a book with characters that were full of life, making you smile.

I smiled the entire time reading this book. It does have its moments of suspense but the characters are so fun. They have a great dynamic. It‘s a character driven book for sure.

Eh. I kinda wish this series ended with the original trilogy. This book was tedious. Jacob is giving very Harry Potter in Order of the Phoenix vibes, which isn‘t great. Jacob is no Harry, therefore his selfish attitude is even more grating. I‘m also sick of his relationship with Emma. I just don‘t care. This will probably be it for me for this series. #seriesread

OrangeMooseReads I‘m hoping this was just a transition book and there will be something exciting to come with adventures in the US. I agree Jacob and Emma are just annoying at this point. 6y
