Bags 1-4 are done and attached - so repetitive 🙄 this book was so interesting. The end of the book breaks down the asteroid strike and a step by step description of what would have happened after it hit the Yucatan Peninsula. And all the people who scoffed at the asteroid hypothesis 🤣🤣

willaful What's the picture of? 7d

An excellent read! Probably one of if not THE best book on dinosaurs I have ever read. It‘s written in such a way that anyone could pick it up and read it. You don‘t need to be obsessed with dinosaurs like I am to understand it. It flows beautifully from the time before the dinosaurs, through their rise to the top, their reign as the dominant creatures on the planet, to their rather violent demise. Absolutely love this! It was a library ⬇️

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm borrow, but I‘ll definitely be adding it to my own personal library in the future! 9mo

My partner is glad I‘m finished this so I‘m not constantly telling him things about dinosaurs 😂 five star read for me - so readable, engaging and fascinating! It‘s a linear narrative from when the dinosaurs first arrived to their extinction. I learned a lot. #nonfiction2023 (bad reputation) #magnificentmay

TrishB My daughter (now 21) still constantly tells us about dinosaurs. The family calendar in the kitchen is dinosaurs! I think she has this book- scared to ask in case she starts telling me about it 😁😁 2y

My 5 year old is dinosaur-obsessed and with him, I‘ve been learning so much about these fascinating creatures. Our view of the prehistoric world and its inhabitants is built by incredible scientists/paleontologists whose new discoveries and analysis of fossils have developed leaps and bounds in recent years. It‘s truly amazing what we know about dinosaurs from rocks. This is an accessible source to learn more about what came before us. #doublespin

RamsFan1963 You should check out his new book, The Rise and Reign of the Mammals. It's just as interesting and informative. 2y

This was hands down the best book I‘ve ever read about dinosaurs, how they lived and evolved and their extinction. Packed full of information yet easy to understand, I learned so much from this. The author makes every chapter so interesting and his love for palaeontology really comes across. He debunks some myths about dinosaurs and evolution as well as giving the most up to date research and findings
A definite 5 star book for me

RamsFan1963 He's got a new book coming out called The Rise and Reign of the Mammals. I'm looking forward to reading it, I thought this book was excellent. 2y

Speaking of nature, I'm going to join in with @Clwojick and her #bigjunereadathon

I'll be looking at crossing off 6 books from either my #readharder or #naturewriting challenges. Haven't decided which ones yet but the prompts were all selected at the start of the year. I'm gonna go with a bit of mood reading on this one too.
Starting with the tagged, cos I LOVES a dinosaur 🦕 😄

Clwojick Thanks for joining in! You‘re going to crush it this month! 🌼 2y

Easy to digest and a wonderful account of the history of dinosaurs and our discoveries of them. Scientists are written as people and there is so much interesting info. If you're interested in paleontology or dinosaurs in general I highly recommend.

This book was very interesting especially after I spent time in Wyoming this summer on a fossil dig! So much to learn about the dinosaurs and the author presented it in mostly laymen‘s terms that was easily digestible. I did feel as though the author mentioned his friends a little too much throughout. #nonfiction #science #paleontology

One thing I like about A Very Short Introductions: no “let‘s me tell you about the time I got lost in Warsaw as a graduate student” or “let me tell you about the color of the sky that time I was bitten by mosquitos while I was digging for fossils with Sven, who was tall and wore sweaters that were…” and on and on.

Bk1 for #NFN20 & #NovelNovember #readathon is done! I enjoyed this NF written by an American palaeontologist about how the story of the dinosaurs & related animals has changed over the past 150yrs. The author himself has been instrumental in revising that thinking with his discoveries of numerous new dinosaurs & fossilised remains of ecosystems. It‘s not a dry textbook at all, which a lot of these end up being, it‘s fun, engaging & informative.5⭐️

#TodayILearned that the reason Sauropod dinosaurs(brontosaurus, brachiosaurus etc)could get so big(50 feet long, up to fifty tons)is because they had the same type of lungs as birds, with multiple air sacs & the ability to absorb oxygen on both inhalation & exhalation. #NFN20

2/3 of the way through this #NFN20 read. I don‘t know why but I‘m always a slow reader when it comes to NonFiction. Maybe it‘s because my brain is trying to retain all the facts? Anyway, this is a brilliant read so far, the author is really engaging in the way he throws all the info at you, it‘s not dry like a lot of these sorts of books are. How‘s your weekend reading going?

Clwojick I tend to read slower with NF too. 4y

#TodayILearned that the theory from Jurassic Park is true, there were dinosaurs with feathers that eventually evolved into birds. This particular feathery Dino was found in Jinzhou, China & was eventually named by the author & his colleague Junchang Lu. #NFN20

Next up! I got this book from my brother and sister-in-law for Christmas and it‘s such a beautiful book. The reviews for it have been nothing short of spectacular and after reading the prologue, this is going to be a wild ride.

Learn about the rise and fall of dinosaurs and how evolution changed their species to adapt (or not) to environmental challenges - all told through an easy, conversational narrative.

Let‘s go!
