The Body
The Body: A Guide for Occupants | Bill Bryson
In the bestselling, prize-winning A Short History of Nearly Everything Bill Bryson achieved the seemingly impossible by making the science of our world both understandable and entertaining to millions of people around the globe. Now he turns his attention inwards to explore the human body, how it functions and its remarkable ability to heal itself. Full of extraordinary facts and astonishing stories The Body: A Guide for Occupants is a brilliant, often very funny attempt to understand the miracle of our physical and neurological make up. A wonderful successor to A Short History of Nearly Everything, this book will have you marvelling at the form you occupy, and celebrating the genius of your existence, time and time again.

Well .... I just can‘t... the audiobook is not for me ... it‘s read by Bryson himself and he is just not a compelling narrator. It‘s just putting me right to sleep 😴

Sace Cats on laps have a sedative affect as well 😂 4w

#NonFictionNovember A very typical Bryson exploration of the Body, head to toe. Best when he is delving into historical ways of thinking about the functions of our various organs, weird “cures”, the “firsts” - surgery, transplant, vaccines. Then we go down the road of statistics, comparisons of healthcare in different countries and he is less engaging- not to say it is not important but not really advancing his topic. Read by Bryson 4⭐️

I feel smarter. And, if I could just remember all the amazing tidbits about our body systems and scientists, I‘d DOMINATE in trivia. Regardless, I loved this book, laughed frequently, and would welcome getting a beer with Bill Bryson at his earliest convenience. Fun, nerdy, and entertaining....perfection.

I finished this yesterday, and it is FASCINATING. I coincidentally got the audio and print versions at the same time, thanks to a skip-the-line find at my local library, but I listened to 90% of it, because I just adore Bill Bryson‘s narration.
I‘m not even a science-y person, but Bryson does such a good job of putting complicated things in layman‘s terms, and it makes for really interesting reading! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If every time you hear Bryson has put out another book you stumble over your own feet to get to the book store fast enough, like me, you will not be let down by this new gem. It's everything I have come to expect and cherish about Bryson's books.

Finally it's Saturday. And I got some book orders, which is always lovely. I'm still eagerly awaiting my Waterstones edition of The Starless Sea. And the time to read all this..

The irony is, amidst all the TBR's and new shiny books, I am rereading Terry Pratchett. Again. 👾

This overview of human biology will bring back memories of the last science class you took - but in typical Bryson fashion, he livens up his chapters dispelling old wives‘ tales, with biographical detail on important people you may not know, and plenty of interesting, share-worthy facts. I think this is a good book for dipping in and out of! Thanks, #NetGalley, for showing so many paths to the #graveyard! #ChillingPhotoChallenge 3pts #TeamStoker

Great read for lovers of human biology. Bryson's style is easy and personable. Facts are peppered with fun anecdotes from history. As a pharmacist I enjoyed the excerpts on the history of medicine.

Aimeesue I didn't even know he had a new book out! Yay! 3mo
jillrhudy @Aimeesue October 15! I can‘t get through it because I get sidetracked studying all the stuff he talks about! There aren‘t many popular science books that are biology with a bunch of medical history thrown in. 3mo

I tend to forget what a talented writer Bill Bryson is. Here he‘s writing about the brain 🧠 in his upcoming book. #netgalley #arc
