Involves politics, but definitely not in a traditional way! Great on audio.

This is weird but funny and so endearing. An intriguing premise, but the story is about so much more than the kids spontaneously combusting! I found myself really making time to read it.
I had no idea what this book was about when I picked it up, but somehow got it into my head that it was a memoir. Listening to the #audiobook I quickly became confused because I thought it was a memoir written by a man and read by him. Then it was a female narrator who started talking about going to an all girls school and I was like, "WTF?" ? ⤵️
Some interesting and funny parts, but largely a pan. Too many plots or characters that weren‘t explored deeply enough

Went in blind and was surprised by a quirky, funny and heartwarming found family story.
I received a copy of this book from the amazing @CBee 💙 I enjoy Wilson as an author and this was a peculiar one for sure. I read this in one day. Thank you again, Cydney!

I listened to the audiobook. Intriguing concept. Loved the beginning of the book, the middle was a little slow, and the end fell short.
But, what made this story for me, was the narration. Marin Ireland is absolutely amazing! Listening to her transform with each character was like listening to a stage play. She kept my interest.
Overall it was heartwarming story that I found uniquely satisfying and unforgettable.
This has been on my list for so long and it did not disappoint! Funny and strange, I loved these quirky characters with my whole heart! Great on #audio! First #Bookspin for #September! @TheAromaofBooks
I knew going in that it might be tricky to get past my own baggage about not wanting kids, in order to read about kids presenting unique challenges to their caretaker. If you go with the premise that everyone's a little F'd up by their parents, it's a very comforting read: the weird banding together. I'm left wishing for a better love interest for the main character, but happy with how things worked out for the kids. ⚠️ Suicide, child neglect
"...I felt like a gust of wind in the spring, just enough motion it detonate every dandelion puffball in my way."
Love the writing.
This was a weirdly cute quick read. It tells the story of a woman down on her luck who is asked to help out a college friend. It turns out to be a very unusual nanny job. It‘s hard to categorize, and does not always make sense. However, it is very charming and I really liked our main protagonist. 4⭐️

Finished up my Jan bookpsin this weekend.
It was a slow start. I almost gave up on it. But in the end, I want a sequel to see what happens to the kids and if he becomes president.
Loving living off the grid for a while. I do have cell service, but it is limited and slow.
My plans for the evening, eating dinner and reading. Boy do I love spring break!

Drinking some hot tea, to help settle my stomach, and trying to read a bit. My mind is totally distracted though.
Kevin Wilson does a good job of drawing the reader in by opening the story with a first-person voice that establishes the tone and introduces secondary characters, which builds the dramatic conflict that leads to the inciting incident.
Super fun and quick read! I found the friendship between the two women very odd, but realizing it was written by a man makes more sense now. But Lillian‘s relationship with the kids was heart-warming!
Found a couple of used bookstores near my parents and couldn't resist a mini book haul. Although I have no idea how I'm going to fit them in my suitcase to come home 😅
This was a really cute audiobook, and the narrator did a fabulous job. This was a feel good listen.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was my first Kevin Wilson book and it was really quirky and charming with surprising heart. I remember being about 60 pages in and wondering if I‘m supposed to like the main character. I‘m definitely interested in reading more of Wilson‘s books if they‘re anything like this.
1st, thank you Chelle for another wonderful surprise! I loved the last McMahon I read, & can‘t wait to read this!!♥️♥️♥️
2nd, bugga was sick yesterday. Clearly.😐😜
3rd, the tagged. So not what I was expecting! Funny. Heartfelt. Perfect for book group! #RLBookGroup
Also finished 2 other cozies: a visit to the 80s & a visit to a gothic castle! 4 & 3⭐️
& listening to this Penny - not 🌲🌲🌲, but still good & reading the Maid - so good so far!😲
I LOVED this book and can‘t recommend it enough. It makes you think about parenting, friendships, and just how much we can handle from life. There‘s lots of great critical commentary about class, and it‘s just a joy to see what the protagonist prioritizes. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Reading this for my IRL book club.
Book has huge heart & such well-drawn, memorable characters. Quirky & SO funny, w/ passages of great beauty. 28-yr-old Lillian is struggling when her friend Madison asks her to be nanny for her 10-yr-old twins on the grounds of her mansion. The catch: the kids spontaneously combust when upset. Friendship, class, power, competition, parenting, vulnerability & willful strength of children, love, stability, finding family. Badass tenderness. 2019
What else could you do
but pretend that you didn‘t know
that was possible in this world?
you ride it out and you don't let it hurt you
then there's this stretch of time
so calm and perfect
that's what was always worth waiting for
I sat on the porch, a perfect day
and watched them burn
Because I knew that when it was over
they would come right back to me
They didn't want to set the world on fire
They just wanted to be less alone in it
I definitely enjoyed this quick read—story about relationships with a twist.
Second book I read in January of 2022 and it was so good! All I knew going in was a couple of kids would burst into flames when they got to overwhelmed with emotions, but boy was I not expecting all the rest.

I‘m Shido and I enjoy spooky stories, lgbtq+ reads, and a good fantasy here and there!
Just showing off the three books I read in January! I remember having Litsy long ago, but fell out of reading for a while. Here‘s to a new year of reading! :D

This reminds me so much of how I felt in the first weeks after my daughter was born, that I was an imposter but that maybe if I pretended long enough, I would grow into this person. And I did. But now that she's almost 17, I realize that it was just a temporary thing anyway. Not that I stop being her mother, but that I stop being her world. It's a big ask, stepping into and then out of this intense role. Who came up with this idea, anyway?
I rarely read books more than once, but this one I've now read twice in less than two weeks, once by myself and once out loud to my kids. I really enjoyed it both times, and my kids liked it, too, and not because of the swearing. (Or not *just* because of the swearing.) Wilson paints a vivid and truthful picture of what it's like to become a parent, no matter how you become one. I mostly made it through reading aloud without crying.
Nothing To See Here by Kevin Wilson. Book3 of 2021. The premise of this book was kind of out there, but the execution was on point and I throughly enjoyed this. This was my second novel by Kevin Wilson and I look forward to reading more.
Thank you Misty! I‘m looking forward to reading this one. I can‘t tell how serious it is or how tongue in cheek, but the cover is provocative. It‘s been on my TBR since it‘s release.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas! 🎄 ❤️
Making good on my promise to read the tagged book aloud to my kids. They're loving it, as expected. I enjoy doing a variety of southern accents, none of which are likely authentic (I've chosen Kentucky relatives for Lillian and use Dolly Parton and high school friends as inspiration for Madison).
(Amaryllis because I wasn't sure what other photo to use. My boss from 20 years ago gave this to me (last week, not 20 years ago) and they're gorgeous.)
I listened to this on audio, but I might read it aloud to my kids. At 12 and 16, I think they'd get a kick out of it, and not just because of the swearing. There are lots of laugh-out-loud spots in this novel. I enjoy the relationship between Lillian and Madison and the evolution of Lillian's feelings about the children, and I relate to Lillian's feelings of trapped-ness in her mother's home and how being away makes the dysfunction stand out.

Today‘s Prompt: WARM/WARMTH
NOTHING TO SEE HERE is comical as well as heartwarming as Lillian learns to take care of Roland and Bessie and fall in love with these strange, needy, difficult children.
This book is heartwarming as well as heartbreaking.

Short, dark humor, novel about a woman helping her childhood friend take care of her step children that catch fire when upset. I enjoyed it but it also wasn't one of my favorite reads. I didn't really contect with any of the characters.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It was genuine, funny, heartfelt and always teetering on the brink of being dark. The audio was great (and quick). Similar to House in the Cerulean Sea by the sweet, weird, sad and magical beauty of it all not so much by actual content. I will definitely be reading more from Wilson.
🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Decided to start with this recommendation for the road trip and am not disappointed!
