After over 8 months of trying to hold a school and community together feel totally physically and emotionally drained today and can‘t even go to my happy place (the sea) to recharge my batteries, which has got me through in recent months. Not even read one word in past 24 hours which as those you that know me is totally absurd and unheard of.

So coming to my other happy place, Litsy! 🥰

What uplifting or feel good books can you recommend!

Andrew65 Hopefully can get hold of some of these through the e-library and help me recharge my batteries and lift me out of the current funk! Not helped by overcast weather! 3y
Andrew65 Grrr! Lockdown! 😔 3y
MicheleinPhilly This one really helped me last week 3y

Scochrane26 I haven‘t read much this week either. I‘m sure you‘ve read this one, but it‘s an easy read. (edited) 3y
Bookwormjillk Ugh Andrew. I‘m sorry. I‘ve had good luck with mysteries like Louise Penny‘s books. I like a good predictable happy ending. 3y
Andrew65 @MicheleinPhilly This looks good, off to see if I can get hold of a copy. 😊 3y
Andrew65 @Scochrane26 I have but such a lovely story, that or the film of it might be a good place to hide out in. 😊 3y
Andrew65 @Bookwormjillk This is certainly one need to get back, read first three. Will check and see if I can get hold of one. 😊 (edited) 3y
Reviewsbylola That was my day yesterday. Suddenly the situation just smacks you in the face and it feels impossible to move forward. I hope you‘re able to recharge today. The book that‘s been helping me this week is 3y
Andrew65 @Reviewsbylola That is true. Thanks, I‘ll check this out. 😊 3y
TrishB I shall have a think 🤔 I had that massive slump a couple of months ago and it made me even more miserable. 3y
Andrew65 @TrishB Exactly! Reading and the sea is what balances me. Now lost both at the moment. On another note told you Everton wouldn‘t maintain it. (edited) 3y
TrishB 😂😂😂 hubby‘s face is a picture at the moment!! 3y
Andrew65 @TrishB Not sure which is worse mid table all the time or raise hopes at the beginning of a season only to be let down. (edited) 3y
TrishB Their start is def worse as it gives you hope, then the let down. 3y
Andrew65 @TrishB That was what I was thinking. 3y
Blueberry I was just looking at The Clansmen which @Librarybelle posted about. It sounds like a mood-lifter. 3y
SamAnne So sorry. Something light? Or very short stories, essays, poems? And thank you for your daily Cornwall photos. I live in the U.S. but Cornwall is one of my favorite places. Hope to get back some day. 3y
Andrew65 @SamAnne Thanks, something light. I love Cornwall. Pleased to hear you are enjoying them 😊 3y
Andrew65 @Blueberry Thanks, I‘ll check it out 😊👍 3y
Mollyanna Andrew I am so sorry to hear this. You have been working so hard! I hope you regain your momentum soon. I always go to childhood favorites or cozy mysteries when I am in a funk. Here‘s one of my new favorite cozies 3y
Andrew65 @Mollyanna Thanks 😊, looks interesting. 3y
Deblovestoread I find cozy mystery to be the best when concentration is lacking. Easy likable characters, nothing to intense in the murder department and if my mind wanders I usually don‘t miss much. Hang in there! 3y
Andrew65 @Kdgordon88 😊😍 3y
veritysalter I‘m sorry to hear your feeling so low @Andrew65 can I recommend a cup of tea and an Agatha Christie? I‘m sure your children and their families are so grateful to all the hard work you are doing to give them an education and some normalcy through all this. Big hugs. 3y
Andrew65 @veritysalter Thanks, will get through it but need a recharge first. Agatha Christie and tea sounds a good option. 😍 3y
Susanita I‘m sorry you‘re feeling burnt out. Sending virtual hugs! I‘ll second the idea of a cozy-ish mystery. My book club really liked 3y
CoffeeNBooks I enjoyed this book a lot. I always enjoy anything by Jenny Colgan, especially The Bookshop on the Corner. 3y
Andrew65 @Susanita Sounds great, unfortunately not available in libraries and quite expensive over here in libraries. And thank you. 😍 3y
Andrew65 @CoffeeNBooks Read Guernsey but not the other book, will check it out 😊 3y
andrew61 Can't immediately think of a book Andrew but my wife is a teacher and I really appreciate what an important job you are doing in unprecedented circumstances. Now get reading again! 3y
Andrew65 @andrew61 Yes very trying times for all. In U.K. all children expected to be in unless isolating. Rates in immediate area of school are over 1000 per hundred thousand in last 7 days. Had to arrange emergency food parcels on Friday afternoon. Trying times as head teacher / principal, but trying times for everyone. Just wait to hear if positive case for a member of staff. And you are right I need to get back reading! Best wishes to your wife. 👏👏 (edited) 3y
JacqMac This whole year has been so exhausting. I have had a slump or two myself. I love a book that has short snippets that make me laugh, when that happens. Jenny Lawson and David Sedaris are my go to happy writers. (edited) 3y
Susanita Well that‘s a bummer. I think any of her Christmas ones would be fun. She has a new one out soon, I think? No worries about reading them in any order. 3y
Andrew65 @JacqMac Thanks, will check them out. A laugh is what I need. 😊 (edited) 3y
Andrew65 @Susanita Thanks 😊 3y
BookwormM His Dark Materials series 2 is on BBC 1 tomorrow this is the happiest I have been all year 3y
Andrew65 @BookwormM I‘m still to watch those. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I just finished this one and it was fun & light. 3y
Andrew65 Sounds ideal, off to do some research. @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 3y
CarolynM Have you read this one? It's hilarious 3y
MsMelissa The only one I can think of is this, which you‘ve likely already read 3y
CarolynM And this one really gives you that "at the beach" feeling 3y
Andrew65 @Book_Fiend_Melissa Thanks you‘ve reminded me that I‘ve read and loved this one but still need to read book 2 and 3 3y
Andrew65 @CarolynM This is definitely a must then. 3y
Andrew65 @CarolynM Not read it but sold me with Stephen Fry. 3y

Because one bookstore, even with to die for almond shortbread and free cafe WiFi, just isn‘t enough ...!! 😉😉😉😉 (Abbeys is always more of a self control challenge then Dymocks because they‘ve got a great crime section and Loeb editions of the ancient classics. I managed to walk out with “just” a Loeb Xenophon, which I was looking for, but it *was* an exercise in extreme self control!!!)

CarolynM I don't think I've ever left Abbey's with only one book. You didn't mention their amazing sci-fi and fantasy floor upstairs. Not my favourite genres, but if I ever want anything of that kind they always have what I'm looking for. 6y

SYDNEY! I used to work around here so this is very much my stomping ground & happy place. This Dymocks is huge and while we sometimes have a difference of opinions about their stock (come ON - hardbacks please!!!), it‘s still somewhere I make sure to go, even during a day of stupid expat errands like banking/ health insurance/ accountants/ *trying to find jeans that fit western thighs* which are soul destroying so I‘m stopping for books 😉

CarolynM The Dymocks in George St is good, but I'm a fan of Abbey's on York St 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @CarolynM (sshhh... I may also have added a Loeb from Abbey‘s because what‘s self control under those circumstances?!? 😂😂😂). (edited) 6y

If y‘all get a chance, pls do visit Chamblin Bookmine in Jacksonville Fla. I‘m biased, but it is the most incredible bookstore in the world. ❤️

Dog is dreaming, cat is watching her 'stories' and I'm reading. Everyone is in their happy place!

Simona 😂 Beautiful❣️🐶😻 7y
LeahBergen Does your cat do that all the time?? 😂 7y
Kirstin @LeahBergen 😂 She loves watching 📺. I found a you tube video 'for cats' and she was transfixed. 😂😂 ?? I just laugh 7y
DebinHawaii That is funny. Max will watch for a bit sometimes if it is birds or jungle cats that move & make noise but it doesn't last long. 🐱❤️ 7y

Littens, Thank you all for making Litsy such a wonderful place to be. I am down in a hole of anxiety/depression and your posts bring me light and smiles when it hard for me to find them on my own. I'm on my last week of my first inpatient call month (and it's been a doozy of a month), my husband is off on a med school rotation and I won't see him for 2 weeks, and my apt is a mess, but you all keep me sane. #hugs 💛💛💛

Jenshootsweddings It's hard. We're here! 8y
stargazerblue49 @Jenshootsweddings It's mostly the husband thing that's bothering me, but Litsy is a great distraction! 😬 8y
Jenshootsweddings I totally get it. We're married long-distance style. Distractions are a must! 8y

My #faveplacetorelax is the back porch. It's screened (I do NOT like bugs), it's spacious, and it has a lovely view of the forest. We are right in the midst of the state forest, which stretches for hundreds of acres behind our backyard. Our home has several great reading spots, and while @MrBook and I enjoy them all, this is our favorite when the weather is nice. Best room in the house! 🌲📚#augustofpages #bookphotochallenge #augustphotochallenge
