Christmas at the Island Hotel
Christmas at the Island Hotel | Jenny Colgan
27 posts | 16 read | 11 to read
Another heartfelt and delightful Christmas tale from the beloved New York Times bestselling author of The Bookshop on the Corner and Christmas on the Island. New York Times bestselling author Jenny Colgan returns to the setting of Christmas on the Island and Endless Beach for a heartwarming new novel celebrating the season, and Scotland. On the tiny, beautiful, and remote island of Mure, halfway between Scotland and Norway, a new hotel opening is a big event. New mother Flora MacKenzie and her brother Fintan are working themselves half to death to get it ready in time for Christmas. The new hotel's impressive kitchens throw together two unlikely new friends: Isla Gregor is the hardworking young girl who has been a waitress in the island's cafe, dreaming of a bigger, better life now that she's at a proper fancy hotel. Konstantin Pederson is working his way up in the hotel's kitchens too...but he is also, secretly, the only son of the Duke of Utsire. Konstantin has been sent to learn what it is to work hard for a living, before receiving his inheritance. Although he's initially resentful, the place grows on him; he has never met anyone quite like Isla and her fellow Murians before. As the island's residents and special VIP guests gather for the hotel's grand opening gala, Christmas is in the air. But so are more than a few small-town secrets...

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I hosted dinner Christmas Eve for my sister and her family and Christmas dinner for my husband‘s extended family. I‘m officially on “break” until next weekend. I just want to read and eat chips for the next while. This JC book was a delightful escape, perfect December reading

A heartwarming novel celebrating Christmas and Scotland. Set on a tiny island, a new hotel is preparing to open at Christmas. A new temperamental chef, the owner getting over the loss of his partner and a new mum working hard to get everything done in time. A great range of supporting characters including a banished Norwegian prince, a hard working kitchen hand and a local headteacher. A good Xmas read full of festive cheer and old fashioned charm

What I‘m #currentlyreading. I‘ve never read the first two books in this series, but Colgan gives enough of a backstory that it‘s not necessary. Loving it!

Another great Christmas story from Jenny Colgan! It‘s so weird to me that I either absolutely love her books or find them meh. I think it has to do with the characters - I really love the ones in this Island series as well as the bookshop series but wasn‘t a fan of the Little Beach Street Bakery characters. Either way I loved this one! 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

#Bookreport That‘s a wrap on Christmas stories for 2020. They were all ok reads but not outstanding. I loved Clap When You Land. I will read anything Acevedo writes from now on.

#WeeklyForecast. Hope to finish JA Education and keep up with chapter a day with The Italian. We are just starting The Italian today if anyone is interested in a buddy read of this classic. @jenniferw88 is hosting. Looking forward to my next up books.

#DashingDecember and #WinterSolstice readathon updates. I finished Clap When You Land which was my #Doublespin book. I have liked both of Acevedo‘s other books and really enjoyed this story written in verse. 4 🌟 Colgan‘s books are like putting on your favorite snuggly pj‘s. They are warm and comforting. 3 🌟

Somehow I have a knack for reading Jenny Colgan books out of order and this time I went from book one straight to book four. The originating characters had supporting roles in this story but it didn‘t take long for me to get in sync with the MC‘s of this one. And I need a geography lesson because I didn‘t realize Scotland was so close to Norway!

Finished this up #audiosouping today & it was a delightful holiday listen & return to the island Mure & Flora & her family & friends. As Colgan‘s books usually do it had me smiling & tearing up & wanting to spend Christmas on the Scottish isles, freezing cold or not.

The soup is a tossed together Salmon & Wild Rice Soup/Chowder. I wanted a creamy wild rice soup & fish chowder so I combined it all.😋This is pre-salmon, finished soup pic later on.

Still #audiosouping to this one, a good holiday pick. The soup is Chickenless Noodle Soup from a new vegan cookbook. There‘s tofu baking to be added to mimic the chicken & some herbs to stir in & top with. Very homey! Finished soup pic coming later.

MicheleinPhilly OMG - Can you just FedEx me 50 gallons of soup? Please and thank you. ☺️ 4y

November stats! I make TBR reduction goals, not reading goals, and I‘m excited I hit my 2020 target despite some late-in-the-month additions. Anything I get off the stack in December is just gravy!

I‘m also happy I found a 5-star read. I dunno if CHRISTMAS AT THE ISLAND HOTEL would‘ve ranked that high at any other time, but I read it in a week when I really, really needed it. Plus, I love all the Mure characters to bits.

My #audiosouping pick today needing something light-ish & looking for more Christmas spirit as November has been a challenge at work & life. I love Mure & Flora & her brother Fintan, so it‘s a treat to be back. Also the narrator is doing an excellent job. This weeks soup is a Creamy Roasted Red Pepper Soup from Giada & it will be puréed & served with Pimento-Cheese Biscuits for my virtual foodie bookclub post. Finished soup pic coming later.

I normally save Scribd for stuff I can‘t get at the library, but due to how my hold suspensions jived with when they processed this one and when lockdown restarted, there‘s basically no chance I‘ll get it from them before Christmas. So here I am with the audiobook, via Scribd.

It‘s GREAT so far! Most of the old Mure characters are back, along with some stellar new ones, and everything‘s all delightful but also sad. Classic Colgan. #audiocooking

This is the 4th full novel in the Mure series by Jenny Colgan and I think it might be the best one! I thoroughly enjoyed being back on the fictional Scottish island of Mure. I like how the characters we‘ve come to know during the series are still there, but Colgan spends more time developing several of the minor characters and introduces some fun new ones. (more)

Jebpix This novel didn‘t focus as heavily on the main relationship that started the series, and I really enjoyed that. Even if you haven‘t read the other books in the series, this would be enjoyable on its own. It will be published in October 2020 and will be a great read as the days get shorter and colder.

Thank you #NetGalley for this #ARC! Thank you @Litsy community for introducing me to ARCs. My first one. 😊 🎉
