Loved this! Twists and turns alongside magick and hand-me-down recipes all set in 18th century London. Brilliant book.

The story overall… is ok, pretty solid. Although, I feel like it would have benefitted from a darker twist. The 1790s timeline is much more interesting than the present day. Although with both timelines I was ready to yell through space, time and reality at some of the characters.

A library haul. Now reading and enjoying The Lost Apothecary!

I enjoyed the past storyline more than the present. For the present, the whole time I was thinking “so just check out and stay at a different hotel!! Problem solved!” 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I thought the author did a good job of weaving the 2 timelines. I didn‘t like Caroline (the mc in the present storyline). She‘s one of those characters that is purposely immensely incapable and indecisive at times and at others smart purely to move the plot along.

I waited a long time for this to become available at my library which inevitably set some unreachable standards. But it was still a great read. Great mix of modern and historical retelling of timeless women's struggles with men, the patriarchy, and finding yourself.

The idea about an apothecary who sells potions was very nice! But that's where the nice things about this book end. I hated Caroline and her storyline. Nella and Eliza were also very shallow. Athough this book was not very long, reading it felt like ages, and not in a good way. It was just about interesting enough for me to finish it, but I will never recommend this to anyone. There could have been a lot more done on this idea. Big bummer!

Very quick read! I‘ve read multiple dual timelines before and this one is a bit more memorable compared to the rest. I think I stuck around for the facts on herbalism until my gravitation towards Eliza grew. Caroline & James story felt a bit blander. Still a good read.

Read this one as a book club book. It wasn't a waste of time but there was little to get excited about. I'm not a book snob but the writing was not great, and the story was predictable. There are two parallel stories, one in the present and one in the past. One of the stories is unnecessary. And I am obviously not in a great mood for pointing out the positive. So perhaps I am wrong and I am a book snob. But tomorrow is another day.

At the core, this book is about the turning points in life that, if we allow, help us to reevaluate our values and dreams. It is also about the role of female friendships in helping us navigate these pinnacle moments. This book proceeds along dual storylines. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy historical fiction, books about female friendships, and stories about self-discovery. 🛑: murder, suicide, miscarriage

The story flips between Nella, an apothecary in 18th century London, & Caroline, a modern-day woman w/marital problems & a love for history visiting the city. I really loved the pacing of this one. It wasn‘t earth-shattering, but both plots kept me interested. There are moments when things lag, but it was a solid book & an entertaining read. I loved the parallel between modern & past apothecary & I was grateful for certain parts of the resolution.

I wish I loved this book as much as I love the cover. I usually love a scholarly mystery with murder & magic. But the two main female characters weren't complex enough. Their lives were reactions to men. The main arc was away from that, but honestly, write me the book for who this women becomes, not who she is before she becomes herself (i.e. interesting,). Also, the ease of the scholarly search and the last scene was laughable.

In modern Britain, Caroline faces the possible end of her marriage while exploring London and finding unexpected evidence of a secret apothecary shop in Victorian England that took care of women‘s secret problems - sometimes rather permanently. A second storyline follows the downfall of this apothecary.

This was a bit too superficial for me, and the portrayal of modern historians‘ work was fantastical and... Off. Meh to ugh.

This book is an emotional roller coaster. There were many times I just wanted it to end, but it felt like it was dragging on. I felt many of the events at the end were not surprising, but expected. The stories between time points were okay, and was done well with switching between Eliza, Nelle, and Caroline's points of views. There is a bit of magic talk, along with medicine, and crazy events. Overall I thought it was just ho hum.

A quick stop to Target today lead to me buying a new book 😅.

The back and forth between time periods and characters was well done. I felt the ending was a bit dissatisfying and could have done with a bit of an edit. Still, I would pick up another by the author. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I really ended up enjoying this book about a woman from the 18th century who sold poisons to women. There are 3 stories entertwined, 2 in the past and 1 in the present. Unfortunately, there was an imbalance in the stories. The story taking place in the present was very slow but picked up at the end and moved this book out of so so. The A plot contains a funny high stakes poisoning gone wrong and the 2 characters must try to not get caught.

Just finished this audio and it was absolutely amazing! A great story linking 3 women over 2 time periods, all struggling with toxic men, the need for revenge and protection, and how their decisions impact their lives. And that cover is absolutely gorgeous!

Im not sure that story was even necessary- book dragged in parts for me but was still a solid listen 🎧 I‘m glad this was a #BorrowNotBuy as I don‘t think I‘d pick it up again. Dual timeline story. The historical story was pretty good, but the modern story was way too contrived to fit the other. Overall, entertaining but not extraordinary. #audiobook

Book 10/25- prettiest book so far 🌸

It‘s been awhile since a story intrigued me like this one. The juxtaposed stories of the apothecary in the 17th century and the woman in the 21st century blend really nicely, although I will confess I was more interested in the apothecary‘s story and the action taking place there.
