I read this for July's #bookedintime challenge of historical fiction set in 17th century England. I enjoyed the more historical parts, such as the political and religious mindset of the time. The romance storyline, not so much, but that's my personal preference. I did appreciate the challenge to read about a time I'm not very familiar with! @cuilin
FYI #BookedInTime folks, this one is $2.99 deal for kindles today. I had been eyeing it as my selection, with this deal & credits it has become my choice.
Thank you so much to @MittenGirlPeach for my #muglove23 gift. I love my gift so much, and the mug is beautiful. Sorry I am running late with posting, I was a little under the weather. The tea was perfect though for helping me feel a little better.
Good book club discussion on this today. There‘s plenty of historical details to draw you into the treacherous landscape of this world where the strength of women is on display even while they are constantly dismissed and abused. The romance plot develops unexpectedly and the reader‘s dread builds as the novel draws towards its inevitable conclusion.
It wasn‘t really my ☕️ but I appreciate it more after hearing from everyone who loved it.
Giving Philippa Gregory another go. These books are certainly a change from the court of Henry VIII. Charles I is about to get his head chopped off, and our main character is Alinor, a poor woman living in the tidelands and a suspected witch. I enjoyed book one, book two I found overly long and treading water after the politics of the first. That said, Philippa Gregory does write the stories of the forgotten women of history extremely well 👇
I had really high hopes for this one but was really disappointed. There was no happy ending, just sadness after sadness and then let down. I couldn't really recommend it to anyone either.
Part one of my birthday book haul.
I love going on an author binge….

Confession: I have never read a book by Phillips Gregory! 😱😱 where does one start?!?!?
Well I FINALLY finished this one! I started it months ago and then just put it to the side. It ended up being quite good although I really didn‘t like any of the characters other than Allinor and her son. Even her daughter really pissed me off! But I‘m excited to see where the next book takes the characters! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Book 2 finished for #SuperSeptember 😀
I loved Alinor and her story. I can‘t stand that women being accused of being witches in the past happened as frequently as it did. The methods for finding out if they were ‘witches‘ is horrible. 😟 But, I enjoyed this audiobook! 👍
Believe it or not this is the first Philippa Gregory book that I've read. She's an author I've been meaning to try and just never gotten there. So glad I've given her a try.
Although I found it a bit long I was really invested in the story, oh I was so angry at one of the characters and such great imagery. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this first book in the Fairmile Series (2 books so far). A great story set at the time of the Charles 1, the Civil War and his beheading. Very tense ending to the book and not all went the way I wanted it to. Recommended .
Very good. Start of a wonderful new series, it draws you in and stays with you long after you have finished it and I can't wait to see how the series progresses. Shows how a young woman navigates a treacherous time in history to be a woman. Also how she will do anything to protect her family.

Never read this author before but found it on the bargain shelf.
Starting this one at lunch today! Guys, if I finish this book before the end of the month (which shouldn‘t be a problem) I‘ll actually get a BINGO on my #bookspinbingo board!! It will be the first time this year! I‘m inordinately excited about this 😆
Whoever gifted me audible... you‘ve changed my world!!! Libby is great but getting different titles and exclusives are awesome. I bought 2 of 1 audiobooks on today‘s sale! #litsylove 💕💕💕
This was my first book by P. Gregory. It won‘t be the last! I absolutely loved it.The story deals with a woman who is a commoner during the 17th century. It talks her family‘s hard life. The main character is an extremely strong woman that I admired. The book contains some great discussion questions.I hope that one of the book clubs that I am in decides to read this book so that we can go over the questions together!I highly recommend this book.
I bought a new feather duster to keep the books clean. It‘s more fun if it‘s cute. The hard part is not getting distracted while I clean the shelves....
Great weekend with #dar friends attending our virtual state meeting. So nice to socialize and feel normal for a bit.
I found Tidelands was a good re-introduction into the world of reading - I've had a few year break due to contending with an anxiety disorder which meant I couldn't focus on reading. The characters were compelling, kept me turning the pages and wanting to keep with the story - it is a slow burner really. The ending was a bit sudden, a much faster pace, however there is another book in the series which explains why there felt to be an open end.
I‘ve done a lot of reading about the reign of King Charles I in England since I first finished this story six months ago—fully understanding the politics of 1600‘s England made this story more robust on my reread. Alinor Reekie the midwife and healer is strong and fierce. The story is so atmospheric and wonderful; the ending is enormous!! I had so many feelings throughout.
Very excited for the release of Dark Tides (Fairmile #2) in November!!
I stayed up way too late last night finishing this book.
I've never read anything by this author before. The popularity of her books combined with writing about people I've already read about in nonfiction sort of turned me away.
This book, however, is about regular people that she created herself. It's about the struggles faced by "real" people, living regular lives. And I loved it.
Using the library closure to work on the #TBR stack.
I feel like I ought to have signed up for #readingengland2020 rather than #readingeurope2020.
Decent enough escapism. I placed a hold on this during the middle of my Stay-at-Home life. By the time it came in for me I was ready to read something a bit more current. Not the book's fault, just a different mood than what I wanted. Elinor is a struggling woman living in England in the 1600s. I enjoyed this one but can't really say it's life-changing. In other news, our library is open! We are back to work normal hours in the building! 📚😊
From the off this book was beautifully atmospheric thanks to being set in the ever shifting tidelands. Alinor is beautiful in appearance and in her resilience and courage. Daughter of a wise woman, every day she fights to feed her family, keep her reputation and survive, which she does with unending grace. Then a stranger turns up and turns her world upside down. I felt the ending was a little abrupt but I hope that means hear more from Alinor!
I've been entering a lot more Goodreads giveaways lately. You know, killing time and all that. But I woke up to three wins! Nothing I'm dying to read right this moment but one can never have too many books during a pandemic, I think.
Tackle the TBR 😊📚 #boleybooks #Tidelands #philippagregory #booklove #simonandschuster #silversreviews
YOU GUYS! This is the best book I‘ve read in a while. I want everyone to know how good it is! Alinor is a poor midwife and herbalist during the time of the witch hunts in 1648 England. She is AMAZING. The research and attention to detail in here is delicious. It‘s atmospheric and I felt like I was RIGHT THERE. Also interesting is how England handles the captured King Charles I after the English Civil War!!
Thank you, Atria Books & NetGalley!
This story is GRIPPING!! I‘m at 70% and I‘m not sure if I‘m excited to see how everything ends up or if I‘m terrified of what can still happen. I can see why some people think it moves a little slow in parts because it IS very detailed but I 100% love all of these details. MY GOSH!! I feel like I‘m standing right in the middle of this world and I can hardly breathe and I cannot stop clicking to turn the page.
#netgalley
I started reading Tidelands earlier today and fell HARD into the story. It‘s so atmospheric, I love it. I just made dinner and cleaned my kitchen super fast so I could pick it up again.

Safely made it to Disney World!

Gregory is a master of historical fiction. In this one she turns her eye on an random person, a woman who has issues with her husband, is good at herbs, and stands out in her community. Though not always for good reasons.
Really enjoyed this book! I haven't read anything by Philippa Gregory in years. When I was in my 20s and 30s I read quite a few of her books. Alinor was a quite believable heroine and my heart went out to her with all that she had to endure, living in those times (1648-49).
I really liked this book. Some parts were a bit tedious and felt like they could have been more ‘to the point‘ but other than it was a lovely storyline. I loved the names of the characters especially Alinor and Alys .
4⭐ the first in the authors new series. It tells the story of a midwife/herbalist living on the edge of nowhere, during the time of Cromwell. The ending was quick. I look forward to the next book.

My current read, have you ever had to stop reading for a bit because you kinda know what's going to happen next and it's going to break your heart? #keeplitsyactive @ljuliel
“Come to the book as you would come to an unexplored land. Come without a map. Explore it and draw your own map.” —Stephen King, Hearts in Atlantis
I always love when books have maps, I like to study each one, and flip back to it, whilst reading the book for a point of reference. They always seem to enhance my reading experience, would you agree?
Ebook from the State Library. Loving the depiction of life on the tidelands and the impact of King Charles‘ campaigns on ordinary folk . #almostfinished #tidelands #phillipagregory
Congrats @Librarybelle on your milestone ! #200KGiveaway
I've read others books by this author and have enjoyed them. This one is the first of a series and of course I'm all about the series! Thanks for your generosity!
This was my first Philippa Gregory and I didn‘t know what to expect. I really enjoyed the slow, pleasant pace, rich detail, and getting to know Alinor and the remote tidelands during the English Civil War. I believe this is the first in a new series, but I loved how realistically this book ended. While I enjoyed it, I don‘t plan on reading a sequel, because I felt satisfied with this story and its setting, but I‘m interested in her other books.
My review of Philippa Gregory's new book Tidelands is up on my blog at www.thespineview.com. In short, a solid read but not one of my favorites from her. The middle dragged some but the character development was outstanding. Recommend for lovers of historical fiction with strong female characters. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
So even though the cuisine doesn‘t match the book - these are my plans for tonight!
