4 ⭐️ This was a #bookclub selection and a #reread in April. And I enjoyed it much more this time than I did the first time that I read it. I think it was because I could comprehend it better this time around than I did the first time. I liked the interspersing of newspaper columns with the story. Even though there are some dark themes in this book, I found it to be fairly easy to read. #2024 #bookreview #fiction #greatdepression
#RestaurantCvr #NewYearNewBooks @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Full disclosure, I‘ve never been a Fannie Flagg fan, but this is one of my all time favorite book titles, so I may have to make an exception and give her another try.
I really enjoyed this book. The whole story just wrapped around me and drug me in deep. I was sorry when the story ended.
Just found out there is a second book in the series. Soo I‘m going to have to look for it
Finally reading the book that inspired one of my favorite movies. ❤️
Love this book and movie 🎥 🍅📚

My favorite part!! “ToWanda!” 😂 🚗 💪🏻
I am honestly surprised how high the rating on this one is. But then I scrolled through looking for any reviewer who was not white and could not find anyone. This book is racist. The Black characters are drawn as cartoonish and the N word is used with great abandon. The R slur is used throughout also which is always jarring.
I finished it, there was some charm in the areas she stuck to writing about the white characters, wish it was all that.
Audio book day as my eyes continue to adjust from Lasik. Getting the plants watered to feel productive.
This book has a grating racist undertone to it that I am not enjoying. I think it is going to be one of those few books that I enjoy the movie more.

Going to attempt to join! I am getting Lasik today so I might be doing most of my reading this weekend in audio.
If I am able to read a bit I want to finish Careless by Kristy Capes
Audio I am going to read the tagged and Far From the Madding Crowd.
Fried Green Tomatoes is my favorite movie adaptation and is one of my favorites of all time. Same with The Family Stone which is my favorite Christmas movie. I still need to watch it this year.

Ok…. After slugging along for months, trying to finish this, it‘s official….. THIS BOOK DOES NOT HOLD UP. It‘s very much a book of it‘s time.
I started a random book list for myself, reading the books that inspired the movies I loved as a kid in the 90s. I started with How To Make An American Quilt, then I watched the movie. I have to say, nostalgia isn‘t saving all these titles for me 🤣 But I am still loving this challenge I made for myself. Does anyone have any other 90s book to movie suggestions to follow after this classic?
Thanks, @Enchanted_Bibliophile and @Eggs #wonderousWednesday
1. Reading Fried Green Tomatoes as a bit of nostalgia since I loved the movie a million years ago. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ —the racism portrayed (though not supported by the mc‘s) is throwing me for a loop
2. So many! Office of Historical Corrections, Bellweather Rhapsody, and Sorrow and Bliss are the first that come to mind.
3. I‘m grateful for my home and family (esp. on tough days like this one)
This book was so sweet and genuinely charming. I was worried at the beginning it would be too folksy and try too hard to be wholesome, but in the end it was quiet, good natured, good at being funny and good at being sad. A pretty perfect piece of Americana to read on a cold night in london.
I love the book more than the movie. A quick nostalgic read of an old favorite.
This book was a treat. I watched the movie many, many years ago, but as is mostly the case, I enjoyed the book much more
Asked for some book recommendation in a favourite book group and this author was recommended. I'm really enjoying this book so far.
I‘m so glad I finally read this! And now I naturally want to see the movie again…. It‘s been awhile. #bookspinbingo #readmyowndamnbooks
The movie Fried Green Tomatoes has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I read the book about 10 years ago and enjoyed it. I wanted to do a reread before I read the sequel that came out recently. I decided to grab the #audiobook and I‘m so glad I did! It really brings the story to life and now I think it‘s better than the movie. I‘ve always felt the movie, while amazing, has the tone of being a bit depressing, although there are lots of ⬇️
A charming story 😊 I recommend the audiobook as only about 2 hours long and the narrator is very good😊 Read for #PopSugarReadingChallenge2021 and #Bookoplathon and #writteninthestarsreadathon 4/5
Page and Palette #bookhaul! I stayed with local authors especially since I‘ve never read - nor seen - Fried Green Tomatoes. The Bragg is a favorite, but another copy couldn‘t hurt! And I‘m not familiar with Sonny Brewer, but looking forward to giving him a try. And of course, I got a new puzzle! 🧩 The boys picked some fun ones, too.
SO GOOD!! I absolutely loved this story about Whistle Stop, Alabama. I enjoyed the different segments like The Weems Weekly and The Whistlestop Cafe, it really made the book go by quickly. Ive wanted to read this for years. I, of course have seen the movie and really liked it but it has been a while.
These two books were such comforting reads! I loved getting to know everyone in the first book. And it was wonderful to read about old characters and learn about new ones in the second book. A very entertaining series. Both were 4/5⭐️
My thanks to @UwannaPublishme for reminding me that I wanted to read these two. They did not disappoint!💜

Book 103
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

As one of my favorite movies, I decided to read the book. It was pretty darn good, too! It had additional stories about Sipsey‘s family and Smokey Lonesome‘s travels. I recommend reading it rather than listening to the audiobook, at least for the first read. There were a lot of characters I couldn‘t keep track of and the dates at the beginning of chapters are very important.

I'm going a bit different with this prompt. Idgie is a character who refused to be "put into a box" or labeled by society. She had no desire to be a #Wife to anyone, but she loved those around her with a fierce devotion.
One of my all-time favorite books. 😍 I decided to re-read this one before reading her new book.
Reading this book is like taking a trip home. It's comforting and always leaves me feeling happy when I finish it. Idgie will always be a beloved character to me and her relationship with Ruth is a love story that will touch any who read this book.
I can't wait to read the new book about Bud, aka Stump.

“Remember if people talk behind your back, it only means you are two steps ahead.”
It was a little weird reading this out of order (*after* The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop, which I enjoyed marginally more). Flagg spins a good yarn. [Flagg didn't narrate the edition I read, which was disappointing—She's phenomenal!]
Loved it. Charming, funny, engaging. Not too emotionally taxing. It was a perfect election week read.
I went back to this book after reading it and enjoying in college. Still amazing. Interesting to reread though now that I'm older and remember which things I focused on the first time I read. #fannyflag #mystery #lgbtq #feminist
I read this one for book club at Cavalier House Books. I wasn‘t sure how or if I‘d like it, but it turned out to be exactly what I needed. The entire book feels just like some old southern lady telling you a story about back in the day, and that‘s basically what most of the book is. It felt like hope and life all wrapped up together, and I really quite loved it. I can‘t wait for book club!
#3Books that left me with a book hangover. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
I'd give anything to experience each of these books all over again for the first time. Each fulfilled a different part of the reader in me, but each kept a piece of me with them too the second I read the last page and closed the cover.
