Atlas Six | Olivie Blake
145 posts | 118 read | 9 reading | 93 to read
The much-acclaimed viral sensation from Olivie Blake, The Atlas Six--now newly revised and edited with additional content. - The tag #theatlassix has millions of views on TikTok- A dark academic debut fantasy with an established cult following that reads like The Secret History meets The Umbrella Academy- The first in an explosive trilogy The Alexandrian Society, caretakers of lost knowledge from the greatest civilizations of antiquity, are the foremost secret society of magical academicians in the world. Those who earn a place among the Alexandrians will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams, and each decade, only the six most uniquely talented magicians are selected to be considered for initiation. Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality. Reina Mori, a naturalist, who can intuit the language of life itself. Parisa Kamali, a telepath who can traverse the depths of the subconscious, navigating worlds inside the human mind. Callum Nova, an empath easily mistaken for a manipulative illusionist, who can influence the intimate workings of a person's inner self. Finally, there is Tristan Caine, who can see through illusions to a new structure of reality--an ability so rare that neither he nor his peers can fully grasp its implications. When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society's archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will. Most of them. Lethally smart. Filled with a cast of brilliantly realized characters, each entangled with one another in torturously delicious ways, The Atlas Six will grip you by the throat and refuse to let go. Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent. -- Chloe Gong, author of NYT Bestselling These Violent Delights The Atlas Six is a fantasy novel that understands that what the people want is more dark academia stories with flawless vibes and aesthetics and hot morally fraudulent characters who are constantly on the verge of either killing each other or fucking each other. The book was slow moving. The last few chapters had my interest, but I will not be continuing the series. It didn‘t wow me that much.

RamsFan1963 You're probably better off. Book 2 is better, but the conclusion was a hot mess!! 3w
Sci.Cricketts @RamsFan1963 I am glad to hear this!! Moving on to a different series then :) 3w
RamsFan1963 If you're looking for a new series, I'd recommend The Devoured Worlds Trilogy by Megan E. O'Keefe. I've read the first two books, The Blighted Stars and The Fractured Dark, and I thought they were both 5 🌟 reads 3w

With all the right premises of a secret wizarding society based in an antient library, the book turned to be a disappointment. Very little happens in terms of plot development, the characters are flat and the female ones are so stigmatic as if taken from some patriarchal encyclopedia of female heroines. And the sex scenes reek of dubious consent. Not sure I'm going to continue the series

Atlas Blakely invites six powerful magicians to join an ancient, secret Alexandrian society that hold all the world's secrets and power. Told from each character's perspective, this dark academia YA fantasy had me hooked!

If you like dark academia vibes, you will like this book.
Six people with different magical abilities are chosen to protect the Alexandrian Library as a part of a test to be initiated. Only 5 will pass, and they have to unanimously decide which one will be eliminated.
You get to read each person's perspective so you get to know each candidate.
There was quite a plot twist at the end. I can't wait to reach the other two books.

Really intrigued by this one, also not usually my thing - very in your head, calculating, scheming but so is everyone outside of the six. Definitely putting the next book in the series on hold.

Reminds me of Scholomance for some reason even though the stories are totally different. Maybe just the security aspect.

#serieslove2024 Still in my dark academia phase and this series is pretty good so far. 6 people with different magical abilities all tasked with protecting the Alexandria library where all knowledge is kept. But not before they pass initiation. Lots of secrets, betrayals and alliances. On to book 2! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

I went into this read with high hopes for a Magicians-esque trilogy but it didn‘t deliver. Some characters were too cringy and others fell flat. I‘ll admit I made it to the end to know how the story would end. However, I won‘t read the rest of the books. Will I watch the forthcoming series? For sure!

I‘m not entirely sure how I felt about this book, but the characters engaged me enough that I‘ll call it a pick. The people building this story were my main reason for continuing; I couldn‘t really get a firm handle on the plot outside the obvious steps the story took. Maybe it was me, maybe the book, I don‘t know. Not sure I‘ll bother with the sequel — I‘ll have to see if I‘m still thinking about it in a while or not.

I don‘t know if I liked this book. It‘s very character driven with no plot. I tried to like some of the characters, but they‘re all kind of unlikeable. We didn‘t learn much about the magical world. We get some history, but not really.

Six people are stuck in a mansion together doing classes or a lot of reading and then practice magic but not sure what the point was.

I might give the second book a try because I‘m curious I guess, but we‘ll see.

Lovelylottereader Personally I also didn‘t like any of the characters in the first book but I think they develop well in the second. Might be worth a try! 1y

Definitely the building block of the series, a little lacking in excitement and could have used a little more editing in spots… but, I still really enjoyed and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

A book based on the Alexandria library, whether fantasy, non-fic or otherwise will always be a go-to for me 😊

I kept thinking of people to recommend this to while listening. It was good!!! Not tooooo much of a plot, until maybe the last hour? The little plot that does exist is great, but it felt mostly like world building and character development. Maybe bc of that, the ending was a bit heavy. Like, there was too much too quick. Maybe it‘s bc I had to tear thru this work fast- I started it too late and only had half of my 7 day borrow to make it work 🥵

Nalbuque Two other things! The narration was good- APART from the voice given to the plants. It actually made me a little mad…they did those plants dirty!!! 2y
Nalbuque And the other- tagging this as a quiltbang read was wayyy too generous. I‘d have understood it if it was the 90s or something. Maybe the second book will expand? 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 2y
currentlyreadinginCO Agree with you fully that there was more character development than plot here. I liked The Atlas Paradox better because I thought that the story was able to go into interesting directions because of the effort put into developing the characters in TAS.... there's a little novella out there called Sacred Hospitality also if you haven't seen it. 2y

The Atlas Six is a novel written by Olivie Blake that follows the great Library of Alexandria and six gifted individuals that are given the opportunity to enter the hidden Alexandrian society. The readers are first introduced to the history of the library and how it forged its eradication so that the expansive knowledge of the library is kept to the most elite magical academicians among the ages.

matthew.ugsimar The readers first follow Libby Rhodes and Nicolás Ferrer de Varona, two rival teenagers gifted with remarkable proficiency in physical magic that attracts the interest of a mysterious dark-skinned man introducing himself as Atlas Blakely. A caretaker of the library, he offers the invitation to an inauguration totaling six talented candidates that must compete with each other to qualify for initiation. (edited) 2y
matthew.ugsimar The rest of the candidates picked by Atlas Blakely include: Reina, a young adult naturalist working in a cafe in Tokyo that happens to possess high caliber abilities over plants; Callum Nova, a man of rich background that is accustomed to getting what wants with his top notch illusionary abilities; Parisa, a naturally curious adult mind reader; Tristan, a hard-working adult preparing to inherit the Wessex fortune but more importantly, has the ext- (edited) 2y

matthew.ugsimar If you enjoy books with dark, modern-world magic or even books with abstract relationships, than this book is for you! 2y
matthew.ugsimar A theme greatly seen within the start of the novel is power. The very concept of magic itself is connected to power with supernatural or unknown forces. The theme of power is prevalent in that the selection of the Alexandrian society requires the highest gifted individuals who must compete for a spot at the society.

This book was such a fun and chaotic romp! I definitely had a good time reading it and I‘m excited for the next two installments. However keep 3 things in mind when beginning this read. 1. It‘s a character driven book-to a fault! 2. All the characters are pretentious, and self involved (love-able assholes???)! 3. Don‘t take it too seriously and you‘ll have a ball reading it. 💖📚

I shouldn‘t like this book. The characters are all assholes only out to help themselves, but there is something so intriguing about the whole premise of magical people competing to see who will win the chance to protect a vast library.
