#DynamicDs #DoubleLetterTitle An all time favorite!
I recently read a bibliomemoir where the author wrote an essay on Franny Glass which inspired me to reread all of Salinger‘s work for the first time since I read them as a young adult. Book one done. At first I was afraid because I didn‘t want my initial opinion to change but if possible, I love his work even more. The first half, Franny, is the better half but I still enjoyed Zooey even though he‘s a bit of a brat.
#AboutABook #YouFinishedIn1Day a comfort read for me , usually in 1 day . No extra charge for Crosby‘s legs!😊🐱 #CatsOfLitsy
I've kept meaning to read this for years and have finally done so!
I'm still mulling it over, the message contained in such a slim yet dense novel.
One of the best books I‘ve read- the dialogue of academia and enlightenment / in a theatrical presentation. Reads like a play and maybe that was intentional?
Franny & Zooey, what can I say but definitely worth the time reading. Delves into the conscious of the young adult finding him and herself and the building of self awareness and the self itself. Not recommend for younger audiences as the language can be a bit profane at times. The dialogue in this story was first rate in the way it was written, it places you right there, in the story. Would be a good play or movie, if it hasn‘t already been done.
#IndelibleMoments #Breakdown
Believe me people it is not lost on me that 3 of my favorite novels involve people having breakdowns.
😄Mid twentieth century can do that to a person!
I was not expecting such a powerful ending. Wow. I finished last night, thought more about it this morning, and reread the last couple pages again. Uplifting, and encouragement for a new year.
Mixed feelings about the print I found on Etsy. I love it of course ,but if you know who was still among us he would maybe litigate? https://www.etsy.com/listing/714130738/franny-zooey-print-11x14
this has gotta be where The Royal Tenenbaums comes from. boo boo‘s married name is even tannenbaum.
message at the end is good. i remember liking the bit about the reaching for ring at the end of Catcher in the Rye. the narrator of “Seymour: An Introduction” denounces endings, but salinger has a knack for them. he‘d dislike that.
4 stars
Franny & Zooey Glass are two of seven siblings who have all at one time or another appeared on the radio show It's a Wise Child. The book is comprised of two parts-a short story & a novella, but they work together as an organic whole. In the first part Franny has a nervous breakdown while on a date with her boyfriend Lane. She returns to her family's Manhattan apartment to recover, where her mother & brother Zooey live with physical👇
I read this book is part of a 2021 reading challenge. I will admit, I didn‘t get it. The style was a strange one for me, as the book contained only two chapters. The second chapter was a few hundred pages long. I know that J. D. Salinger is a very famous author, and he does have a way with words. Perhaps if this book was about a subject that I had interest in, I would‘ve liked it better. To me, this book did not go anywhere.
Can we just take a break and look at the beautiful Centennial Editions we have here?
Just eh. Salinger's writing was good (and old) but the story still went fast. I just didnt have an interest in the story.
Not enjoying this one but its fast going.
Two related stories about the youngest two siblings in a family of gifted children. A surprising exploration of faith, intelligence, and family attachment. Salinger really captures the quirks and intimacies of family beautifully.
Thanks for the tag @The_Penniless_Author !
1️⃣ - Pretty boring. Just a shortening of my first and middle names: Brittany Brooke.
2️⃣ - I‘m super thankful for my husband who works extremely hard for our family, and who got a massive promotion this week. He deserves it. ⭐️ So proud of him!

Today‘s #bookhaul
I went to one of my local bookstores today and got some good finds and cute homemade greeting cards. I then went to a non-profit community bookstore and found some GREAT classic books 4 for $10. I picked up a few that I already own thinking they might be great gifts and a good excuse to support the store. That makes it okay to have gotten so many, right?
#3books #IveReRead I would categorize myself as not generally a re-reader , I have reread these . The tagged book , every year . 🤔
#63 of my year.
Thanks @Blaire for the tag! #favs
It‘s hard to pick 3 & if I thought about it , I might pick 3 different ones.
1.Franny & Zooey for some reason , one I read again nearly every year
2.The Hearts Invisible Furies -John Boyne .Not many contemporary novels fire on all cylinders for me , this one did.
3. Handmaids Tale- Margaret Atwood The fact that the society described here seems more likely than it did in the 80s when it was published, horrifying!
Quitky read. Beautiful prose, complex characters, beautiful edition. Topping and Co style.
My love for this book is pure. It saw me through some rough times during college. #7days7books
“I‘m sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody” - J. D. Salinger
This was the second J. D. Salinger book I ever read, after I completely fell in love with Catcher in the Rye. The characters are so flawed and unlikeable, yet there‘s something so relatable about their struggles in life. It‘s definitely one of those books I find myself going back to time and time again.

Tagging you @batsy day 1. Books that made a big impression or changed me.
This though is my most excited and favorite of all I ordered. It was all a splurge but this made it a super splurge.

Happy New Year, Litsy friends! Starting the new year with a classic. Franny was my last read of 2019. Zooey and I are starting the new year/decade together. And I learned that today is J.D. Salinger‘s birthday so I‘m especially digging that bit of bookish serendipity. For a number of reasons, 2019 was a slow and off reading year for me. Hoping to pick it up for 2020. Happy reading, friends!
20 minutes and $4 later ..... (12th printing of Franny and Zooey!!)
I wound up really loving Franny and Zooey. All the "goddams" felt really awkward, and the way Zooey spoke to his mother was a little obnoxious, but the book made a really profound point, and I loved the conversation Zooey had with his sister. I also kept picturing it as a play for some reason. Loved it.
A shot of whiskey for every time Lane says "goddam."

I just loved the Glass family and all their snippy banter. We meet ‘Franny‘, the youngest of these Manhattanites, visiting her pompous boyfriend at college, as she has an existential crisis over lunch and martinis. Then we meet brother, ‘Zooey‘. As his mother becomes an interloper to his peaceful bathtime, and begs him for his help with Franny‘s latest breakdown, their sniping made me laugh out loud!
@megnews Here‘s an update
4/20 so far for my #20booksby2020 #tbr
Really enjoyed all of them! 😊👍📚

1. ......and loving it! 💕
2. Working and preparing both work (B&N) and home for Hurricane Dorian. Very scary.😳💨
3. I know it‘s sounds boring, but just love a good homemade vanilla!
4. I can play the piano, and also used to play Classical guitar (though haven‘t since I was young). Was without a piano for over 20 yrs but hubby bought me a baby grand as a 40th gift, so I‘ve been brushing up the last few yrs. 🎹
5. 😊👍

It's been a long time since I've read this one and I think it's time for a reread. Franny is an undergrad trying to sort out her life while brother Zooey tries to help her out.
well if this doesn‘t explain my whole twenties 🙃
been stewing over this bit for over a week.
A college story about a girl (Franny) who‘s trying to figure out her place in the world and her relationship with the people around her; her brother Zooey is her ultimate lifeline and helps her out of a mental breakdown. It‘s mostly dialogue and a lot of smoking—but I think this is an important piece of literature.
(I didn‘t like the way Zooey treated his mother though. That bugged me.)
There is something about JD Salinger's writing that draws me to read everything he wrote. This book was funny, and shocking. I recommend.
#siblings #SpringIntoReading Sometimes when you are in a spiritual and existential crisis,a little brotherly advice and understanding helps.
This is one of those books where the passages are so beautiful that they demand to be read aloud. The Glass family is one of the most unlikable literary families I have read about, and yet I love every single member. This book tells about Franny and her brother Zooey, who are, my opinion the two most flawed in the family, yet somehow are still deeply relatable.
