pickOn her way to report a scam, Vera meets a young woman hovering outside the police station, uncertain whether to report a missing person. Of course, Vera provides comfort and undertakes to look for the missing young man herself but soon discovers he is dead.
The story follows the formula established in the 1st book but does allow some darker elements to creep in despite the general level of hilarity - it is if anything even funnier than the 1st.
Vera Wong Zhuzhu should be having the time of her life.

pickI didn‘t read the first one, and that wasn‘t too much of an issue. Similar to Poirot, really. Sure, you miss a few details, but you can still follow along. If you want the coziest of mysteries, this has to be on your list. Does it make much sense? Meh, not really. But who cares!? It‘s fun, it‘s a mystery, and Vera pulls you into her orbit just as she does with everyone else. She reminded me of my Grams. I would def read more.
pickLove the series, the second one while not completely upto the level of the first part, still did a wonderful job.
pickAnother enjoyable mystery solved by Vera and friends, with returning characters and some new ones to add to Vera‘s found family. I really do love her, though this one was not quite as good as the first one. Still a great time. 4.5⭐️
pickI liked this second Vera Wong book better than the first, although it deals with a some heavy topics including human trafficking. Vera learns some things about herself along the way to solving a murder. #audiowalk
pickI guess found family is a sub-genre I really like. I‘m not usually into mysteries, but I have enjoyed both of the Vera Wong books I‘ve read so far. She‘s funny and sassy, and I‘m ready to have her adopt me as my Chinese Auntie too.
I wasn‘t aware this author had so many books. I may try one from another series.

so-soThe sequel also had secrets, lies, relationships, unconventional investigations and traditional food. Quite enjoyable read, but I liked the first book so much more :)

pickReally liked this one! I‘ve had trouble reading mysteries this past year, but this was easy for me to listen to (even though it ended up being a really terrible situation). I hope there will be more books released!
pick2nd Vera book and as good as the first. Vera collects three more people for her found family and solves their problems.
pickThis is a lovely book, and brings some much needed attention to some very important social issues.
Vera can‘t help but try to solve people‘s problems and when someone needs help that intersects with a case her (hopefully soon to be) daughter in law has, Vera is on a new case.

pickI mean, was Death of the Author a better book? Probably. But the newest Vera did not disappoint! She's a delight.

pickI love Vera Wong!!
Vera is inquisitive, meddling, intelligent, bold, and funny. She likes acting like a helpless old lady, but doesn‘t like being one. She‘s also curious, confident, outgoing, and not always politically correct.
The story captures the characters and the cultural lifestyles and traditions of the group. The plot has some twists and turns, but this story is about more than solving a mystery.
pickThis was a super cute, quick and fun read.
My only complaint is the overuse of eye rolling 🙄 mentioned every other paragraph for a bit. It was noticeable enough it actually took me out of the story.
I wish more of the old gang were in it, but it would have gotten too crowded; and the new characters were great.

Last night I tried this bourbon to see if I like bourbon 🥃. 🤷
I‘m liking this second book a lot but if I took a shot every time someone rolled their eyes I‘d be passed out in less than an hour.
It‘s noticeable enough that it took me out of the story. ☹️
pickThis story was fun and over-the-top as I‘ve come to expectations with Jesse‘s books. Perhaps my biggest suspension of disbelief though is placing Vera at 61 🤣. I looked up Jesse‘s age (37) thinking surely she can‘t be more than 22 to write a 61 yr old as she does. Nope, and she knows why she‘s writes Vera‘s age as such! Aside from cozy murder there are some serious elements that must leave a lot to consider when writing comedy.
pickDon‘t read this book while hungry. I really want dumplings now. This is funny and heartwarming but has a very dark resolution to the mystery.

Jesse Q. Sutanto sure knows how to write from the heart! This is comfort in a book, although there is a sinister undercurrent to the mystery. It feels like Vera could burst off the page and into your own house, armed with freshly-brewed tea and home-cooked food that‘s been prepared with love and served with a side of judgement. I really hope the ending is setting up a third book!
pickI adore Vera Wong and this cozy mystery series. It makes me yearn to be part of Vera‘s adopted family. She is good-naturedly nosy and manages to fumble her way into trouble and into the solution to the murder. This series is a murdery book hug and I am here for all the hugs. (Also, April‘s #bookspin)
pickI loved meeting Vera Wong in book 1 and am delighted there is a book 2, in which she is back and just as much of a hoot. There is a part of this book that is serious and heavy, but overall it is a delight and I sure hope to see Vera and company again.
pickThis book… words cannot articulate how much I love Vera and her ragtag, found family. I told myself to pace myself with this book and what do I do? Pause all other activities to sit and finish it 😂 You try saying, “No” to Vera 🤣 Highly recommend for a feel-good story that holds your attention from beginning to end, with some giggles along the way. I hope there are more Vera adventures!!!

I am so excited that not only is there a new locally owned cafe & bakery near me, IT‘S WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF MY LIBRARY!!! Guys. I have found my new favorite third place 😍🥰♥️ Today‘s lunch was a turkey & havarti cheese sandwich on fresh made focaccia bread (and it had sliced green apples on it, my favorite!!!) along witht an iced lavender latte. The vibes were 10/10, I can‘t wait to become a “regular” here 🤩🤩🤩

pickAnother fun cozy mystery from author Jesse Q. Sutano. I enjoyed this one even more than the first Vera Wong book. Vera seemed a softer and more likable character this time. She gets involved in the current mystery by talking to a stranger. Vera has a way of drawing secrets from people. I liked all of her new suspects and how she learns to use social media. The ending made me feel happy.
