Fox Creek: A Novel | William Kent Krueger
Pickpick

Another novel in the Cork O‘Connor series. I really enjoy read William Kent Krueger‘s novels. I like the stories about the native people, aka First Nation People. The very old Ojibwe leader Henry Meloux always plays an important character. The story takes place in Minnesota and in Canada among the lakes and waters there. 4.25/5⭐️

I‘ll probably never get reviews posted for August, I‘m still behind for July but I managed to read 20 books, which surprised me given my schedule & energy level for the month. Many were short books & I made 8 day trips in the month which gives me about 90 minutes per trip of reading + airport commute time.

Finished books for #SundayBuddyRead #SheSaid #NancyDrewBR #BobWhiteBuddies #EBBR #CampLitsy2025 #ChildrensClassicRead2025 #AuthorAMonth ⬇️

Pickpick

Set in a rural Minnesota town in the 50s. The body of one of the most hated men in the town is found in the river. Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies both to themselves and others.
This was a good story and the writing was good.
Recommend.

Ordinary Grace: A Novel | William Kent Krueger

Pickpick

I‘m still a newcomer to William Kent Krueger‘s works, and I hope I never become accustomed to the emotional depth of his novels. “Ordinary Grace” is a beautifully heart-wrenching standalone story. His skillful character development allows the reader to become fully invested in each character‘s role in the narrative. He enables readers to empathize with the pain experienced by his characters.

As always, Krueger‘s talents as a storyteller are on full display in this stand-alone mystery about a man looking back on one of his childhood summers when death stalked his small town. It‘s not my favorite of his books but I did really enjoy it. Family, community, prejudice, acceptance are prominent themes. Great characters, fantastic setting, & secrets which are slowly revealed leading to a devastating conclusion. Another good read.

I picked this up years ago at a thrift store and just got to reading it. Dorothy Molter a is a northern Minnesota legend. Spending over 50 years living on Knife Lake with the help of friends. Great book telling the great story of her life. She sold between 11-12,000 bottles of cold “homemade” root beer every summer. The bottles were rewashed and refilled nightly!

#WhereAreYouMonday
I'm in Minnesota, getting introduced to ex-sheriff Cork and various townsfolk of Aurora and the nearby Anishinaabe reservation. At the beginning of the book, Cork feels he's at rock bottom as his marriage is imploding, his mentor recently died, & Cork has lost his appointment as sheriff. But soon, things get quite a bit worse for him as people in the community die and/or disappear & Cork can't resist investigating. @Cupcake12
