This is an interesting style I had not expected in a sci-fi book. So far, there is an arc ship, three scientists and a lot of missing people...

This was totally not what I expected. But the stories still got to me.
There was a lot about getting older and feminism.
My Evil Mother was especially amazing and The Wooden Box made me put me in the shoes of my grandma.
Currently reading stack is pretty red. The blue one stands out, maybe I should just finish it now. It clashes.
But guess what? I started writing 👀👀👀👀
I was so excited for this one I preordered it twice 🤣
Current read. Or listen! I got the audiobook, too.
Turns out I miss you all. Who's still here? How are you?
Am I back? Maybe - I dont know yet. I use storygraph a lot - maybe some of you want to send me their names or add me? Ladyduckofdoom, as always.
Sending love 💕
Not a phrase I thought I would encounter in an epic fantasy...
Current #readathon read, but in reality I just wanna brag with my GIANT Halloween (all year) teamug!
#readathon is going great! It's my first time reading so much since about 1.5 years I think and I am very happy that I have decided to join.
Becky Chamber's book are always fantastic, and I really enjoyed this one. Perfect book at the perfect time!
Job interview done, got the job, made food, ate food. Made tea, grabbed a book. #readathon time!
When all your pre-ordered books this year arrive at once, because of GB to EU shipping stuff.
Which one should I start?
Tor short fiction books are my go-to if I need something to read between other books.
Today I picked up Her Silhouette, Drawn in Water which was a good story. It was not surprising that something at the start was very wrong. The main character is trapped on an alien planet in a endless cave. When she finds a window, the story unfolds. That's all I can tell.
I needed a lot of time to finish this one, and that may be one of the reasons I did not like it so much. At the start, the world is very black and white and although the main character is an adult, it has much of the simplicity of a YA novel. This is neither good nor bad, everyone has to decide for themselves.
I liked how the story ended, though.
Hello everyone!
How have you been? I've been absent for such a long time - but today I'm back 😁 currently reading this book, but not really invested in the story. Has anyone read it? Does it get better?
Finished Part 3 of Tigana for my Buddyread with @Maike and now I will start this one. Looking forward to dive into some space action with Firefly feeling. Really liked part 1😍
I've been posting aome #shelfies on Instagram, today I realized I should share them with you, too. Trying to be more active here, with some success! Will join the #readathon this weekend!
So, which book would you pick? Once again, I am overwhelmed by the TBR, and can't decide what to read
I caught up with my #buddyread with @Maike yesterday. I love Abercrombie's Charakters and can't wait to devour the second half of the book.
It's leek and cheese soup week, as we are in quarantine. It's delicious.
The kittens are doing great!
I struggeled with my reading last year. Today I checked Goodreads and I am very much ahead of my schedule (goal is 75, last year was 100 and I barely made it).
Just finished ReDawn, only to discover I started with the second novella. Now I'm off to read Sunreach. It will still be fun, I know it!!!
Yesterday I finally started my first book of 2022 and had a good hour of reading time with one of the kittens on my lap.
When are the next readathons? I need some info, I was gone for so long!
#catsoflitsy #kittensoflitsy
I have 2 kittens now - 4 months old. They bring me calm and since I obviously can't move, I started a new book.
I read book 1 so long again I can't remember anything 🙈
Giggled for a couple if minutes.
xkcd has such a great humor, and I learned a lot in the first 2 chapter of the book.
This will be a #chapteraday book, I think
Reading goal: finish this one. 2/3 s in. I think I can do it! Except maybe I'll just fall asleep. Thank god Haidi (the shark on the left) is there to keep me awake
#summerreading
#summerreading Stack 2/6
The Thief: ✅ 3/5
The Reluctant Queen: ✅ 4/5
A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking: ✅ 3/5
The Merciful Crow: currently listening to the audiobook
A Longer Fall: TBR
This stack fells like I actually read a lot of the summer reading books. Which I did not. But, there's a lot of summer left, right?
Hello there!
I'm deciding to spend MORE time on social media - by returning to Litsy. I've been gone for a long time, so what did I miss? Any cool new Littens to follow? Tag them below.
I'm slowly, but surely working through my #summerreading stack. Halfway through Velocity Weapon, I really like it. I just love sci-fi 😍
@Maike, @JulesG and me have a reading blog now. We are reviewing books, doing buddyreads, and posting a generally about all things bookish.
https://scepticalreading.com/
This book wants to be YA Star Trek with enough action to get a movie deal, but instead it is just boring. The plot 'twists' are very predictable. The characters represent standard tropes, some die pointlessly because the authors could not make the story go forward any other way. Every chance for real character advancement, or actual, heart-felt drama are thrown down the drain.
#netgalley
I think I know what's keeping me from posting much on Litsy. I don't have the motivation to snap pictures of the books I am reading. Time is so short these days and somehow, taking pictures of what I am reading is not so important. Ughhh maybe I should just post without pictures? I have read a couple really bad netgalleys recently, and I have read a lot of books this year I haven't posted about here...
The story feels familiar, but the storytelling is great.
The length of the book is exactly right and I loved the small worldbuilding details, the item lists, and Almost Brilliant.
#buddyread with @julesG and @Maike
The main character is a scientist searching for a cure for his daughter. One night, he is visited by his DNA.
The conclusion is battling poison with poison, bu there were some sections that basically said you are the master of your DNA and can heal yourself by just really wanting it, which left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.
I think the story has a solid foundation, but I am not sure I like the message I get from it.
I love removing the dust jacket and discovering something awesome!!
Starting the next #buddyread with @julesG and @Maike
This book has been waiting on my shelf for far too long! Really exited if Morgenstern has kept the magic of The Night Circus.
I recently got a Netgalley account and this was one of the first ARCs I received.
I really liked this graphic novel. Somehow, on my first read, the text bubbles were missing. The story worked without those, too, so the art is damn expressive. It was better with the full story though.
Horror, monsters only children can see, and a talking stuffed Octopus. I can see myself picking up this and the next book when it is released at my comic book store.
I had some catching up to do for my #buddyread with @ju.ca.no & @julesG
I did it!! I finally found some rest this evening.
There is much going on in this book. I really want to know more about the ghosts. What are your thoughts?
Part environmental thriller, part cyberpunk sci-fi, and part male people doing things and the only female person has things happening to her 🙄
I liked some parts, but others didn't work for me.
"What are you?"
"A nuclear explosion that has been slowed down a million times; a byproduct of billion years of convergent evolution; your second personality and life insurance; the free will that emerges from quantum decoherence. I'm accidental; I'm inevitable. I'm a new error. I'm the master and the slave. I'm the huntress and the prey. I'm only a beginning."
Quick read, but the story was so damn predictable 🙄
I am sooo locking forward for this book!!
Above is an excerpt from Laura Lam's book description, as found on Goodreads.
I have read only False Hearts by this author, but I loved it so much that I thought I would blurb about her new release.
#bookrecommendation
@ju.ca.no @julesG
Start digging into our #Buddyread now! But I have a problem: I can't remember how much we decided to read this week 🙈
I tried #audiowalking today with a loan from the library, I just want to finish the series. 1.75 x Speed makes it bearable (I am not a big fan, but have a compulsion to finish series)
The park was FULL of people. I can understand that sitting home gets unbearable, but I did not expect that many people outside. It was a bit uncomfortable really, felt like no #selfisolation going on at all.
I will pick a different route next time.
I liked the first book, the Tiger's Daughter despite all its flaws, but this one was 75% boring, dragging along from here to there. It is not an epistolary novel anymore, and that's a bit sad, it was what made the first one more special
Hopefully book three picks up speed.
It it silly? Yes. Is it childish? Yes! Are some of the jokes really stupid? Yeah
But the rest are funny. It is hilarious and takes on all tropes it can find. Also - tea magic.
The first one tried too much to be Terry Pratchett, but I think they have found a balance here.
Only recommended if you like really bad puns, though
I have read the whole trilogy by now, and I think I promised @julesG to let her know what I thought of them.
I liked the books, it was a kind of complex YA style. Easy to read, story and characters more complex.
It is just not what you would expect. Inspired by Norse mythology - I thought I would see something familiar here, but the story is ONLY inspired.
There are lengths, but overall I recommend them. There should be an English version
I need a long time to finish big books these days, I don't know why, but I find it much more difficult to rate them.
This one has the second in a trilogy sickness. The beginning really dragged. Really draaaaagged.
In the middle, it started to get interesting, as much more of the players in the game was revealed.
I look forward to the last book, and hope the start of that one will be more exciting!
Sentient Weapons are a late obsession of mine, as I plan for one of the characters of my DnD group to find one soon. This Novella is about a sentient Sword and it's nameless wielder, going on a pilgrimage.
I liked the authors other novels ok, but this story is definitely his best one so far.
A short and fun read!
9.81 meter per second squared ist not the Speed. It is the acceleration. The accept of gravity. If you want to talk physics, maybe you should brush up the basics.
I am deeply disappointed by such lazy behaviour. Get a fact checker, please. ☹️
The Nevernight Chronicle and I had a problem.l since the beginning. I liked the conclusion much more than Godsgrave, but I feel I have some rather harsh words to say:
This feels like a YA novel that the author desperately tried to make an adult novel. So he introduced lots and lots of cursing, sex, and gore, without understanding that the storyline stays a YA story with tones and tones of YA tropes.
I liked the books, but this annoys me to no end
