More true crime! This one featured, surprise, another murderer with mental illness. This time is was Factitious Disorder (aka Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy). Much of this story unwinds less than a mile from my home. And I lived even closer at the time this all took place. Wild. The book was a tad dry, but well researched and captivating nonetheless.

I‘ve been away from Litsy a bit. My world, like so many, has been topsy-turvy. I tend to retreat like a turtle in those times. It‘s time to come back though, I‘ve missed the connection with you all! 🥰

And I do recommend this #audiobook. It wasn‘t narrated by the author, which I never love with memoirs, but it was fascinating.

Texreader So good to have you back! Litsy is a bit of sanity in an insane world. 5y

I love a good #NOLA book and I find more and more I prefer historic, non-fiction or even “based on true events” more than New Orleans based fiction. But this one reads like fiction. It transports the reader into the life of a grand French Quarter madam. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This was an interesting snapshot of the origin of “Stockholm Syndrome” and the complexities of those relationships built between two would-be bank robbers and their captives during a few crazy days at a bank in Stockholm, Sweden in 1973. From a psychological perspective this account of events was fascinating.
⬇️

BlameJennyJane The story was engaging and well told. It read like a true crime docuseries, unfolding, gripping and suspenseful enough to keep the reader coming back for more!

This is the fifth in my crazy bitches true crime series. This woman was, by far, the most mentally unstable and evil of all. The book was very well written but so disturbing I had to skim sections when it became too much. It is NOT for the faint of heart. Trigger warnings for anything you can think of related to child abuse. As someone who works in child welfare, however, it is an important story that allows the voiceless to be heard. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I could get used to some parts of this #newnormal. I‘m seeing all clients via telemed from home so my work attire is a presentable top, supportive bra and yoga pants. When I‘m done for the day I change into my evening attire including a far less supportive bra and pajama pants. 😆 #keepinglitsypositive

Scochrane26 I decided today that I could get used to working from home, too. I‘d rather see kid clients in person, but it‘s also nice to save time by not driving to them. 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks We should be doing more telehealth! What area do you work in? 5y
BlameJennyJane @Scochrane26 yeah, I agree. It‘s so nice but honestly, I don‘t know what I‘m going to do about my kid clients yet. That‘s next week‘s task! Play therapy and teletherapy are not ideally happening concurrently! ☺️ 5y

This was the fourth book in the “This Bitch is Crazy” true crime streak I‘ve been on. Sharon Nelson is another husband killer who often has others do her dirty work for her. I cannot stand the title of this book but the content is good- predictable- but I kept reading, intrigued by her ability to manipulate men to the extent she did when she really wasn‘t all that hot. Beats me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5

Research reading is not my favorite thing... but if I have to read it, I guess it doesn‘t get much better than art, trauma and neuroscience. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do any of my fellow thera-littens incorporate expressive arts into your work with clients? I‘m building quite a library but always on the hunt for book recommendations on using art/arts therapy.

Chrissyreadit I do not love this entire book but I love several projects I‘ve done in it with teens. 5y
JenReadsAlot I do not. Maybe I should.... 5y
Scochrane26 I don‘t really know anything about art therapy & should learn. I do use coloring, play doh, LEGOs, & sometimes crafting with my kid clients. 5y

BlameJennyJane @Chrissyreadit oh, I just LOVE that book! I‘ve done several projects in it myself. Great idea though to use with teens!! 5y
BlameJennyJane @JenReadsAlot lol. I love that it uses different parts of the brain and body than traditional talk therapy but the supplies... ugh... and the messes... double ugh. 😜 5y
BlameJennyJane @Scochrane26 that‘s kind of how I got into it... just seeing how creative kids are using non-directive play therapy- LEGOs, puppets, play doh, sand tray, water play. I wanted to expand to teens and adults and trauma work and art is just kind of where I landed! 5y

Have any of you had experience as a reviewer for BookSirens? A rep contacted me on Goodreads after seeing I sometimes review ARCs. I was checking into it and one of the permissions I have to give would allow them to post on or edit on my behalf on GoodReads and that seems odd.

#BookSiren #ARC

Butterfinger That seems weird, but maybe they want to make sure it looks good before they promote it. Maybe? 5y
wanderinglynn That is weird. Can you ask what the permission allows them to do? If it allows them to actually edit your review, I‘d be wary. 5y
BlameJennyJane @Butterfinger @wanderinglynn is says they would get “access to your profile data” and “add and update book reviews”. That last part is what I find a tad odd. I‘d be cool with them seeing my review before they promote it but it does sound like they could actually edit it too? 5y

BlameJennyJane @tessavi oh... glad I‘m not alone. I‘d love to know what you hear back from them if you care to share. I haven‘t gone any further with it yet. 5y

This was a fun ride back in time to my teens when there was nothing more fun than going to the mall- eating in the food court, trying to meet cute guys, shopping at Benetton and spraying every fragrance they had at Bath & Bodyworks. Those years could only have been better had I gone on adventures like those of Cassandra. A counterfeit Cabbage Patch Doll scavenger hunt?⬇️

Chloe Hilliard is likable and has had an interesting life thus far. There‘s a good story there. I just don‘t think the author was a good storyteller. She was clearly slugging her way through the script with the least natural narration I‘ve heard on an audiobook since the 90s. And I would not have guessed Hilliard is a comedian; that didn‘t come through for me at all.

Adam Wade is hysterical and his storytelling is so in touch with the human condition I will follow/listen/watch everything he does for as long as he is doing it. This was one of my #AudibleOriginal selections for January.

I really wanted to like this I respect Paula Poundstone and her efforts to recover from alcoholism and career suicide... but this fell flat for me, choc full of boring stories about #momlife.

I picked these up tonight at the consignment shop. Have you read any of these? Lolita, I know, but the other two are new to me.

Julsmarshall I love all three of these! 5y
LauraJ I had a writing teacher use Accidental Tourist as an example of how to write dialogue. It‘s a really good book. 5y
BlameJennyJane @Julsmarshall yay!! That‘s super encouraging to hear!! 5y
BlameJennyJane @LauraJ that‘s awesome! I‘ve read Tyler before but this one is all new to me! 5y

The format of this book was unique- a conversation with a wise philosopher of Socratic and Adlerian leanings and a curious young man. This was brilliantly executed and poignant, even life-changing in its approach to meaning, happiness and suffering. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

uncommonpoppy I'm reading it right now and adore it! I wish I could be friends with Nina. 5y
BlameJennyJane @uncommonpoppy that‘s awesome! I‘m trying to wrap up a couple of lingering non-fiction books and Nina is my carrot for that so I‘m hoping to dive in soon! 5y
uncommonpoppy @BlameJennyJane excellent motivation! Let me know what you think when you get into it. 🙂 5y

I can‘t tell you how many times I almost gave up on this book. I was having flashbacks of the boredom associated with My Year of Rest and Relaxation. But I pressed on and it was SOOO worth it! This story is heartwarming but it does have some depth that goes beneath the quirky surface. I‘m just in 💗 with all of the characters in this story (unlike those in My Year 🙄). Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5.

Y‘all coulda guessed this but I‘ve gotta post my official results- a PICK all the way!! Never have I wanted someone to be one of my besties soooo badly! I ❤️ Retta like she ❤️s Hamilton and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Scochrane26 I went to a comic con recently & went to Jim O‘Heir‘s (jerry) q&a. He said at the end of p&r, entertainment weekly wanted to do a cover of the cast but w/out Retta & him on it because they didn‘t have enough room. Amy Poehler told them she wouldn‘t do it if they weren‘t on the cover, too. 5y
audraelizabeth I love her in goog girls. 5y
BlameJennyJane @Scochrane26 she mentions that in the book! WTH?!?! I love Amy too. I love all the p&r crew! 5y

BlameJennyJane @audraelizabeth I JUST started watching it on Netflix a couple of nights ago. I remember TiVo-ing it but never watching. No clue what was wrong with me back then. I am loving it! 5y
audraelizabeth I have about 5 episodes of season 2 left and season 3 starts soon. 5y
BlameJennyJane @audraelizabeth is it true that it just gets better? I did set the DVR for season 3 and I will be caught up and ready to go by then. I commit to that here and now! Lol 5y
Scochrane26 @BlameJennyJane I know, how could you leave out Jerry & Donna?!!! 5y
audraelizabeth Yes, i watched the pilot when it premiered and didnt like it but then started watching it on netflix and fell in love. 5y
BlameJennyJane @audraelizabeth I remember catching glimpses early on and thinking along the same lines. So glad I revisited once I started this book! 5y
Scochrane26 I‘m frustrated because my library says they have it on hoopla but it‘s not coming up in there. There‘s a physical copy, but I like to listen to these kind of books. 5y
BlameJennyJane @Scochrane26 grrrrr. I used my Audible credit for it but did check out the e-book from Hoopla and I swear I saw the audiobook on there too... cuz I kinda kicked myself for using the credit instead of borrowing both. 5y
Scochrane26 @BlameJennyJane I think the app just isn‘t working right, but I can ask at the library if needed. 5y
BlameJennyJane @Scochrane26 hopefully it‘s just temporarily glitchy! It‘s worth the effort if you have to investigate further though! Lol 5y

AutumnRLS Love her! 5y
marleed Oh enjoy. It‘s ice in my neck of the woods! My sister took a flight from Montana to Salt Lake this morning only to have the SLC to KC connection cancelled. So now she‘s stuck in the SLC airport and hoping to get here for the Chiefs game on Sunday! 5y
Scochrane26 I need to read this! Didn‘t know she had a book, ❤️ her on parks & rec. 5y

BlameJennyJane @AutumnRLS now that I‘ve read this book she is at the top of my favorites! 5y
BlameJennyJane @marleed oh your poor sister! What a nightmare. I‘ve heard KC horror stories throughout the day today... and so many trying to get to the game. I hope your sister get there soon and safely! I‘m in Iowa. 5.5 inches today and more tomorrow but we are snug and settled and groceried up! Lol 5y
BlameJennyJane @Scochrane26 I flew through it! It‘s a definite pick for me. Highly recommended! 😊 5y

Last night I so badly did not want to go to work today that I sat on the stairs and bawled my eyes out to my husband. As a therapist I feel this expectation to be truly present and relatively mentally healthy for my clients and that was just an overwhelming thought last night. But I managed today well, taking a self-care break here and there. I was there for my clients. And I knew I got to come home to this amazingness. ❤️❤️❤️

Chrissyreadit I hope you feel better ❤️ 5y
